Mithrokk passes the broken furniture and pauses before the door, seeing nothing out of the ordinary.
Studying the rune, both Alianna and Rastaris arrive at the same conclusions: The rune is a magical trap that is triggered when a living being stands adjacent to it. (They both regard Lathalas's attempt to trigger the rune with his dead rat with a mixture of pity and contempt.) The rune takes several seconds to build up the magical energy needed to create an explosion (i.e. it blows up at the end of two rounds), but like a wand, it may only have a limited number of charges before becoming inert. An entire day must then pass before the rune becomes active once more. The similarity between the way the rune functions and the way a wand works is not coincidental; both wizards have heard that one of the ingredients used in scribing such a rune is a magical wand that is burned until nothing but ash remains. The ash is then mixed into the ink that is used to scribe the rune. Knowledge of this sort of magical ritual is usually limited to skilled practioners of the Art. While Alianna and Rastaris can figure out how it works, they themselves doubt they could create such abjurative magic.
The only point of disagreement between them is whether the process for scribing such runes was the invented by a human wizard, Durdel of Anathra (Rastaris's belief), or an elven sorceress known only as Leaffall (Alianna's belief).
Rastaris decides to follow Lathalas and Farnakees.
Before he enters the room, he turns to look at Mithrokk. He reaches out to him telepathically and communicates with him in Dwarvish. “Do not be alarmed. My magic allows me to talk to you this way. We need to stay together. We need your axe with us. What value is glory if all those you could have protected have been slain. What good is your oath if you leave the weak unguarded. Remember your quest.” [Rastaris uses Telepathy.]
Rastaris then enters the room following the same path as the others, making sure to keep as far away from the rune to prevent it from activating.
Rastaris moves to E5. He instructs Xelote to warn him of any danger coming from either AB12 and DEF12.
OOC - Telepathy, huh? I didn't know they put the UA feats in the character builder. Oh well, time to find me some of them UA monsters ...
OOC - My understanding is that Mithrokk is going all the way to the two rooms at the south end. Is this correct?
OOC - The room is as described above, though the smell gets worse if and when you finally enter it. Tell me if you're doing anything in this room, or if you're following Mithrokk down the corridor.
Lathalas pokes around the pile of garbage in the SE corner, but find nothing of interest. These appear to be the remnants of the food stores that the rats have devoured.
Lathalas wonders if the dwarf has gone off on his own, splitting the party...
Seeing his friends enter the other room, Mithrokk decides to join them instead. "Methinks this is not the best time to Leeroy. Perhaps later the madness shall rise again."
Mithrokk moves to C6 to inspect the debris occupying A7-C7 and A8-C8.
Arcana Check: 22
OOC: Did tossing the dead rat on the rune do anything (apart from giving disadvantage on arcana checks... 😉)

OOC - Are Farnakees or Lathalas going into the room where the rat swarms came from? And is Dillion coming down the stairs to join you?
Lathalas shrugs and turns his attention to the room that the Goliath has entered.
Mithrokk will explore the room beyond the eastern door.
Lathalas wonders if the dwarf has gone off on his own, splitting the party...
Map updated with new coordinate system to account for new area.
Farnakees entered the room, squeezing past Lathalas (#261.)
"Watch my back, Farnakees."
Lathalas moves to E6, intent on searching the trash pile in EF78. Ready an action to attack anything from the trash if it attacks me.
Farnakees nods to Lathalas in the affirmative, keeping an eye out for danger.
Rastaris decides to follow Lathalas and Farnakees.

Alianna stays well away from the glowing rune, just in case it has another charge left. She takes the long way to H5.
"Where is the Paladin headed?" she wonders. "Is he going to need someone to watch his back?"

Lathalas Investigation: 14
Lathalas finds nothing in the debris.
Seeing his friends enter the other room, Mithrokk decides to join them instead. "Methinks this is not the best time to Leeroy. Perhaps later the madness shall rise again."
Mithrokk moves to C6 to inspect the debris occupying A7-C7 and A8-C8.
Alianna moves to D6, trying not to let the stench overwhelm her.
Lathalas wonders if he should wake Dillion Harper and ask her to check for traps.
