Anakis yells to Ulben, "Come on Ulben, you've got to keep up!" She draws her arcane energy into another fire bolt in her palm and unleashes it at the fleeing toad once more (Attack: 13 Damage: 5; if advantage here's a second roll - 10). Anakis then runs, continuing to chase the fleeing toad, but taking the time to run around the cloud of insects.
Your fire bolt hits the toad. The slippery, soggy ground is too difficult to travel over to make it all the way to the midge-swarm, but you can see it disperse as the midges spread out around the marsh.
The toad draws up its remaining strength and makes a single jump, landing solidly near another ash tree. As it lands, however, a large net rises up out of the mud, ensnaring the toad in a hunter's trap. It looks back again at its pursuers as it struggles against the net, fearful and exhausted by the chase.
Fluin, seeing that little time is left to intercept the lizard's path, snatches his second handaxe up from the ground where it lies at his feet, and dashes off through the wood. As he runs, he inadvertently spooks a small herd of marsh ponies that were quietly resting in the wood which begins to stampede around him, knocking him about and catching them with their hooves. Unable to avoid them, he takes 3 bludgeoning damage and 4 piercing damage.
Torrent, the toad, entangled in a hunter's net, is now 75 feet away from you, and the lizard chases you from just over 140 feet away. Suddenly, the swarm of midges converges on you, surrounding you in a buzzing, biting cloud. What do you do?
Torrent runs to the Toad, thankful that the creature is stuck and unable to move for now. "Time ta deal with bitey here." The midges start to converge on Torrent, and he uses Control Water to swish water around him to try to disperse the swarm in advance of the lizard's attacks.
(So, 30 feet to suspended toad, then use control water to try to disperse the swarm. Also, are there any trees Torrent can climb around here?)

Because of the difficulty of the icy, slippery, muddy, boggy terrain, you can only move 15 feet and cast a spell on the same turn. The midge swarm inhabits the same space you're in at the beginning of your turn. There's no indication that it is going to move with you if that's something you imagined was happening. Also, the spell you listed is a 4th-level spell, but I'm pretty sure you meant shape water instead?
That is correct. I wanted to use the cantrip. But if the midges seem to be staying put, I'd like to try and climb a tree. Are there any trees within 15 of me in the direction of the suspended toad?

I'm not trying to make predictions for you about whether the midges are going to move or not. It just seemed to me that part of your declaration was predicated on them following you, and I wanted to clarify that wasn't something I'd said was going to happen. I should also mention that the swarm, as with most creatures, is capable of making an opportunity attack against you as you leave its reach. There is another isolated ash tree just 5 feet from you in the toad's direction. It's about 55 feet tall.
As Torrent falls in a swoon at the base of the tree, the dark cloud of midges descend on him to drink his blood from the many tiny bites they have given him.
Tarek, the toad is now just 60 feet ahead of you, ensnared in a net. A little way behind you, Torrent has been overcome by the flies, while the lizard continues to charge towards him across the marsh. Without warning, a second cloud of biting midges leaps up out of the surrounding marsh and encircles you. What do you do?
Aluzira, up ahead you can see your companions struggling across the muddy ground to get to the restrained toad even while being hunted by other threats both large and small. Coming up on your left shoulder, you can hear Fluin cutting through the wood to head off the giant lizard surrounded by the thunder of hooves. What do you do?
Tarek almost instinctively runs back toward Torrent. He mutters a curse under his breath before reaching out and using Lay on Hands on Torrent for 2 hit points. "Hang in there, Torrent, we need you!" Then he'll try to run away from the lizard with Torrent in tow.

As you turn back to help Torrent, the swarm of biting midges looms above you like a dark cloud, blotting out the sun, and strikes. Attack: 10 Damage: 7
The midges are too slow this time, and you've moved just out of their reach by the time they attack. After you've revived Torrent, you have enough movement left to move back 5 feet away from the charging lizard.
Aluzira, surprised by the sudden activity, from the lizard to the Midges, looks around quickly and decides the best option would be to stop the lizard. She will run towards the lizard, trying to intercept it.
(How close would I get to it? and where would that put me in relation to Fluin?)
Fluin's about 15 feet to your left, Aluzira, and is running to meet the lizard at a point in its current path where it will probably be by the time he can hopefully get there (rather than directly at the lizard where it is now). The point along the lizard's path he's heading towards is about 80 feet away from you, while the lizard itself is currently just over 100 feet away from you. (The lizard's only about 85 feet from the point towards which both Fluin and the lizard are heading.) By dashing, you can move 30 feet on your turn through the difficult terrain, and the lizard seems to be moving at about the same rate.
The lizard continues moving forward, and just as it's going past the frozen pool, it comes near one of the ash trees that dot the marshy field and blunders into another trap set by hunters, this time causing a net to drop on it from above, bringing it to a halt as it struggles to free itself. It succeeds in doing so through brute strength, however, as it pulls the net loose and trails it along the ground, having been slowed somewhat in its progress.
Ulben, the ashes clear from your eyes, and you find you can see your way forward again. Aluzira and Fluin have run ahead of you out toward the marsh, while the rest of the party is ahead and to the right, and the lizard struggles with its net across the icy pool to the left. What do you do?
Ok, by the end of your turn, Ulben, you're about half way to the edge of the wood.
Anakis, the lizard is now just over 110 feet away, bits of shredded net trailing from its tail. The toad, on the other hand, is still caught in its net, 105 feet away from you. What do you do?

As you move towards the tree, Torrent, the midge swarm goes to bite you. Attack: 5 Damage: 12
Torrent starts to climb up the tree, but instead quickly falls back to the ground, unconscious again.
