- Okay, so to do a running jump, you need 10 feet, which will take you to the edge of the clear area (Your dex roll is totally fine, you don't get stuck or fall into a crevice while moving). You might choose to only run 5 feet then jump but you wouldn't make it, even jumping your full strength score. (your strength score in normally what you can jump in normal circumstances with a running start).
- This counts as 20 feet of movement because of the terrain, which as mentioned is unsteady and liable to collapse.
- Because of this, you can't really run in it. You can still move, get some momentum, and then jump (remember you're also about 10 feet up as well, standing/running on shaky masonry) but you won't get the same distance as you normally would. I would say half is fair, due to the circumstances. So you could jump 7 feet.
Bottom Line: I'll say that if you want to try this it's fine with me but you will need to roll a DEX/STR save on impact (use acrobatics or athletics, your choice) and beat a DC 20 to roll out of the way of danger. If you roll 10 or less, you'll be prone when you land.
I will be pragmatic and wait for a plan to present itself. I’ll clear rubble in the meantime in case another plan doesn’t work out
@daemyar - you manage to move and shift some rubble but the going isn’t easy. As you grab one particular wedged piece, the whole pile shifts, dropping you into a small cavity.
You at least manage to break your fall skillfully into the debris lined cavity. Looking up, it’s a little less than 10 feet to the top where you fell. The shifting rubble attracts some friends though, and you turn at the skittering and chittering sounds. In the shadow you see 4 set of red eyes moving towards you. You have a few seconds to prepare as they were not directly where you fell.
(( So...Ithelion just saw him fall into a hole, and has not seen any rats? If that's correct, then: ))
Ithelion shouts, "Daemyar!" in a worried tone, then glances around feeling her panic rise, but does her best to supresses it.
Seeing the rope attacked to Krom's pack, she starts to untie it. "We should throw him a rope" she says.
(( Stopping here in case I'm on the wrong track or Krom wants to help/hinder her actions ))
Yup that's right. He was moving rubble and it collapsed. He's about 10 feet or so down, on the courtyard floor. There are some rats that will hone in on anything falling in crevices (of course I had to roll the max number). But Daemyar can also climb out or stand and fight. And you have Elosa, who could cast spells for you, or you could traverse the rubble and help him. :)
@Ithelion - fair enough. You see Daemyar standing in a small cavity surrounded by rubble. You don't see anything else yet but you see Daemyar looking around. You're not sure if he's going to go stabby stabby or climb/flee.
Krom takes the rope from his pack that Ithelion is working on, "I'll handle this for ye lass. Ye be more likely to fall in yerself tryin' to hold on to the rope. Then any rats can have an appetizer 'fer goin' to the main course." He gives a small laugh as he makes his way carefully through the debris to where Daemyar fell.

Be excellent to each other, and roll for initiative dudes!
@Krom - you easily move the 10 feet to where Daemyar fell in. you get to the edge and look down upon the hobgoblin, he seems to have just finished dusting himself off and is peering at the walls of rubble. Roll initiative please.
While you cannot see the rats, you still roll initiative and act. You can still take actions that would help him if he is choosing to stay in the hole and fight. FYI, for every 10 feet you move in this unstable room of fun, you'll need to take a DEX save (DC10).

Ithelion will cautiously move forward, following Krom's footsteps (if that helps!), to near where Krom is, hopefully being able to see into pit. If she sees anything, then she will attack.
She gets Elosa to keep an eye out for threats coming from places other than where Daemyar is.

Krom looks at the area and thinks for a moment before turning to Ithelion, "Ye think ye can fire an arrow with a rope tied to it at the door?"

@daemyar - so you’re staying put and moving some debris. I’ll say make 5 rolls - STR or DEX.

No you can’t, as Daemyar is in a hole currently and the rats are moving through the debris to him :(
