While the party looks the livestock, if you could even call it that, over, the merchant finishes his business with the other man who looks proud to be the owner of his new tiny reptile. The merchant turns to the party and addresses them in decent common, "It is a fine day, no? You have come to purchase one of my beasts? Are you few planning to brave da jungle, or are you sailors looking to rent some muscle?" He gestures to the largest two of the animals in tandem with the last comment.
With the amount of gold Funderburk has also, that brings the grand total to around 550 gold pieces for all of us combined. We can hand in the appropriate amount of gold on the creature we want to buy to one person and let them buy it from the merchant.
16 The merchant scratches his exposed, bulbous belly through his open vest as he watches the party talk among themselves. He mutters in his own dialect and sits in a low, bamboo chair to eat an apple. The man scans the passing crowd, but his interest remains on the party looking over his wares.
I speak in a low voice to the group. „I think Sthara should buy the beast. As a local she is familiar with haggling or other customs. I don’t want to rub anyone the wrong way in market where everything is monopolized. We go for the big guys with horns or the flat one?“
The fat merchant pipes up from his chair, "If you worry about they behavior, I can guarantee they all take direction and only attack in self defense. They should not harm you out of turn. Except maybe this one. Stupid!" He kicks a cage holding one of the small animals the other customer just purchased and says more in Chultan, which Sthara knows it to be foul language.
“Merchant, tell me, can either of these beasts swim?” Sthara asks, pointing at the two larger beasts. After some consideration, she adds, “And what of their age? Have they served before or are they fresh?“
The man rises out of his chair, taking his cue to act. "Both the horned one and the armor plated beast have been used around the city, but that does not mean that they are not old and useless. They are prime stock, I guarantee it." He gestures in grand fashion to the green animal with the crest on his head and adds, "This one can swim if it must."
Sthara sizes him up as he speaks (Insight: 18). When he's finished, regardless of whether or not she finds his pitch suspicious, she offers an approving nod and slowly walks to look at the animals.
"If you were to stake your life on one of these beasts to carry you from this city straight through to Shilku Bay, which would you choose?"
11He thinks for a moment and finally says, "The tri-horn of course. No creature could stand against its charge. Look at those horns!"
Sthara:
While deciding, it looked like the man sized up the animals, but his attention was turned just as much to the signs bearing their price. Sthara suspects that his claim may have been swayed greatly by this.
"You surely speak the truth," Sthara says with a smile, "And for that reason, surely you would be willing to part with a lesser creature for lesser gold. I couldn't have you part with your best beast and leave you vulnerable or without the ability to sell it to a customer who is in more dire need."
"The sign says 250," he replies dryly, then adds, "It does come with travelling bags and riding tack you know." He motions to a pile of leather straps and bags.
When it came time to gather coin for purchasing the huge reptile, Clove wasn't about. A short look about placed him a few stands over talking excitedly with another tabaxi. Realizing he had been missed he comes back to the party and says, "I'm sorry, but something urgent has come up. I have to go, though I wish you all the luck in the world with that Soulmonger thing." Without another word and a shrug of apology, the two feline humanoids depart, lost in the sea of people in the bazaar.
This particular game wasn't for Clove, so he asked that I write him out of the story. A four way split in the gold is 62 gold and 5 silver. You could all remove 63 gold and add 5 silver if you want to split it equally, but that's up to the party.
I am looking for 1 to 2 other very active players to fill the open slots. If any of you have a friend that plays and is interested, have them shoot me a PM.
„Well, looks like it’s just the four of us now. Maybe you could handle the beast at first and show us what to do, Shtara? I’m better at handling rigging then animals. One last stop at the armorer and we’re good to go.“
@DM
If there’s no better armor available for me than studded leather at the armorer (or I don’t suffer exhaustion wearing half plate) or you plan on dropping any clues towards the Soulmonger just close her shop and send us straight to the harbor
Damn, sorry to hear about Clove. I'll try and reach out to people I know and see if I can entice anyone. Also I'm good with the even split and I'll pull those funds out now pre-emptively.
Sthara attempts to mount the beast (Animal Handling: 1).
She then goes with the rest of the party to the harbor, leading the creature and staying with it if the party needs to head indoors.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I'll take both my share in gold spending's along with Allister's because he does not have as much gold as anyone else. So there is 125 gold handled.
Funderburk looks away from the merchant, done with their recent purchase, and now heading towards the harbor "If need be, I am able to help you out Sthara with handling. I'm not the best, but I know a little bit about animals myself after reading about them" He looks at the beasts, "Though it would be wise if I realize that books are much different when handling it in person."
Animal Handling: 19
The Vedalken speaks, "We should go to a more... clear landscape in order to get accustomed to these animals and to properly get trained with them. If I may suggest, I will accompany Sthara to a place she might know where we may train, and you, Allister and Boosey can stay back in the harbor. Maybe discuss with the captain our next course of action?" He looked to Allister and Boosey, "If I am correct, one of you mentioned that following a river may lead us to more clues? Maybe once we gather up, have once last nice rest, we can head out and see. That may be a good plan. What are your thoughts my friends?"
I'm hoping that if we are able to find more players, they may be able to join once we meet up. Like the captain introduces us. Other than that, I am good on gear and supplies!

ooc: I have around 240 gold if you want to pool resources and get one of these beasts
My idea is to have everyone post their amount of gold and discuss what to get.
With the added 100, that puts Sthara at a total of 115 to contribute.

Sthara nods.
"I am happy to make the purchase. Both beasts would serve well, though the horned one seems more agile, were we to need to run quickly."

She stands in front of the ankylosaurus.
"I will give you 200 gold for this creature."

Sthara smirks and gathers up the 250 gold from the party.
We can figure out how we want to divide up that payment as we go. I was really hoping to drive down the price and didn't want to risk magic.
"I was not aware about the bags and tack. That is value added. I will take the creature with its travel gear."
