Yevele will finish off Cyanwrath, leaning on her sword and driving it into the neck of the halfdragon. "We still have the barbarian and the other prisoner back in the meat locker. One of them may be able to provide us with the information we need to find your pa." Yevele says with a nod to Rogrum. "Why don't we catch our breaths here for a bit, and then move back to the meat locker, where we can take a longer rest. But, we might want to deal with the kobolds before trying to move him back there." the monk says as she points at the unconscious barbarian.
After Karib finishes searching the body of the half-dragon, Yevele will use her sword to remove the head from the body. "The head may help us get information from our two prisoners."
Rogram's empty hand curls and uncurls — becoming a fist and then not quite relaxing over and over — as Smoke waxes on. It wasn't long ago that any tale coming from the tabaxi captivated the half-dwarf. Now? Now he just wanted to slam his fist into Smoke's flapping gums.
After the bald human adds his piece, Rogram raises his eyebrows at Yevele. "Looks like you're the one making the decisions. I guess you'd better get to it."
OOC: Siyaj_Kak snuck in there while I was contemplating the right words.
Rogram watches as Yevele finishes off Cyanwrath. The swordsman's anger diminishes a few levels as something akin to regret or guilt creeps up on him. When the monk addresses him, he's lost all of his bluster, though the skin of his face still shone red with the blood pounding just beneath. He moves away to find a solitary place to contemplate the situation he's found himself in. The voice of his mother — not what he heard during his moments of unconsciousness, but what he imagines she would say to him in response to his recent behavior — runs through his mind like a nagging fly. Finally, stubbornness settles in. "I'll find you, Pa," he says quietly. "Whatever it takes."

Langdedrosa Cyanwrath's last breath emerges in defiant static electricity, standing hairs on end before the half-dragon falls silent for good. He is outfitted for battle, and carries no valuables on his person. As you rest within the strangely ornate room, more of its details come to light.
The flat walls of the chamber are decorated with shallow abstract carvings of dragons. Dragons' tails coil into intricate patterns and knots that flow across the walls. The creature portrayed in the northwest corner stands out: a five-headed dragon, rising from an erupting volcano. Other dragons, which seem dwarfed by the five-headed monstrosity, flock to its side. A small, wooden chest with silver and mother-of-pearl inlays sits on the floor in the corner, in front of the monstrous dragon carving.
OOC: An hour has passed uninterrupted, and the party has gained the benefits of a short rest. If you would like to roll any hit dice, please do so in your next post. (Remember to add 1d6 from Smoke's song/story of rest.

OOC I'll start out with 1 hit dice: 6 plus Smoke's song of rest: 3

(shortrest HD + song of rest 8 hp)
Smoke will look around the room and carefully inspect the dragon carving. Checking if he sees anything odd about or if it looks like other Tiamat drawings he has seen before.
Then turns to the others I assume the kobolds are still awake in the path behind us. Which way should we go?

OOC: Karib's health is still affected by the poison barbs on the curtain.
Hovering over Smoke's hit die roll shows me 1d20+3 was rolled. I don't know if that's a bug or if you'd like to re-roll that, I've left Smoke's hit points the same for now. Edit: Pretty sure this is yet another bug with the forum's dice roller, because some of Rogram's hit dice are showing a d20 rolled as well. But Yevele's are not. Starting to wonder if it might be simpler to migrate the games off of the forum and onto something like Discord....
Checking Rogram and Smoke's sheets it looks like you may have already applied the hit dice? Not a problem but just a reminder to everyone that I prefer to manage the character sheets. It really helps me keep track of things across my games.
Smoke Perception: 11
For Yevele & Karib:
The chest is well-designed but otherwise unremarkable aside from the inlays coursing through its wooden construction.
You certainly recognize the five-headed dragon as Tiamat from folktales that you have heard. As the tales tell, Tiamat was banished to the Nine Hells long ago and remains imprisoned there.
The carvings are intricate, and it takes 10 minutes to fully examine the depiction. You notice two additional details in the process: First, black dragons are overrepresented in the carving. Almost half of the dragons appear to be black dragons. Second, many of the black dragon carvings have holes in their mouths.
OOC: Character sheets have been updated with the benefits of a short rest.
Karib exchanges a glance with Yevele, "Probably should see what's inside," he says, reaching down to open it. He pauses long enough for Yevele to back away before opening it.
(my bad i did update hp, the roller hover is wrong though i did 1d8+1d6+2)
As Smoke studies the paintings he mumbles to himself Thats a lot of black dragons.. Seeing the holes in the dragons mouthes he takes a closer look. Trying to determine if it means the black dragons are somehow injured or altered. As Smoke would know a bit of the anatomy of dragons it seems odd to him and also tries to recall some lore about Tiamat and black dragons that might seem relevant to bringing the dragon queen back.
OOC: I didn't include an investigation for traps with the last roll, I just took that to mean examining the design of the chest more closely. I'll make an additional roll for Yevele.
I'm seeing d20s for every roll that I hover over now. Pretty soon we won't be able to roll dice at all in the forums lol.
The chest appears to be locked, but you do not note any signs of it being trapped.
For Smoke:
The small holes in the mouths of the black dragons don't alter their appearance in any way in the painting, but rather are bored into the surface of the wall itself. You doesn't recall any lore regarding Tiamat that is specific to black dragons.
Karib looks up from the box, "Anyone skilled at opening locks? It would be a pity to damage such fine workmanship."
While he waits for answers he starts examining the chest, trying to find its weak points -- and, ideally, points that might be most easily repaired by a skilled smith and tinker such as himself.
Yevele will finish off Cyanwrath, leaning on her sword and driving it into the neck of the halfdragon. "We still have the barbarian and the other prisoner back in the meat locker. @DM: If Karib has a chance to recover HP from the poison damage, he will spend a hit die, otherwise wait.
Before he rests, as Karib sees Yevele examining the chest he offers his own insights into its construction.
Help Yevele.

Yevele will pull out her lockpick set, saying "Can't say I'm skilled at it, but, at least I have the right tools."
With that the monk will sit down in front of the chest and try to pick the lock: Sleight of Hand 20
