Rogram stands back, shifting from foot to foot uneasily. His dark eyes move from Karib to Mondath to Karib with each question and answer. Behind his thick beard, he chews unconsciously on the inside of his cheek.
"We are an army! We need many smiths. Too many farmers slain makes a blade go quite dull."
The half-dwarf's eyes widen. He leans toward Yevele and whispers, "That's a good thing, right? That means they need to keep my Pa alive?"
He crosses his arms over his chest and attempts to pay attention, but his imagination takes over, and he barely hears the rest of the interrogation. Among his musings, he decides he should visit his uncle and aunt and tell them what is going on. After dropping of whoever is staying at his house for the night, he heads to Dorgol and Daniel's and relays what has happened since they last saw him. "We're heading north in the morning," he tells them. Changing this subject, he asks Dorgol if he knows anyone in the Lords' Alliance. "Maybe they should be told about what's going on," he suggests.
Karib draws a slow breath, his face grim. "You can cooperate, or you can resist. The choice is yours, but you know how it will end. " He looks around the cell and at the guards, "If you answer freely, we will allow you food and rest tonight. Otherwise, tonight and tomorrow will be long and tiring."
He waits a few moments for that to sink before continuing. "The plans to leave were already in place before we caught you, where and how were you to meet up with them?"
He will again wait for an answer before using magic.
Mondath stares hard at Karib and speaks slowly, "You think this is that simple, do you? No, this is bigger than you or your little monk friend think. The moment the monk escaped, Rezmir rushed the treasure north, and you lost the element of surprise."
She smiles slowly. "Cyanwrath and I had no plans to rejoin her or the treasure any time soon."
For Rogram:
Your aunt and uncle welcome you back heartily. They respond to your continued adventure with a hearty resolve, pushing you on to finding your father over expressing any disappointment.
When asked about the Lords' Alliance, Dorgol answers, "No' really, I'm afraid. Buncha rich types from Waterdeep, Neverwinter, Baldur's Gate...I think the Governor's part o' it, but ain't nothin' in Greenest to interest the lords in Waterdeep that I been a part of."
Quote: The half-dwarf's eyes widen. He leans toward Yevele and whispers, "That's a good thing, right? That means they need to keep my Pa alive?"
In response to Rogram's question, Yevele looks back at the dwarf and nods "Yes"
When Mondath makes the comment about "little monk friend" Yevele takes a half step towards the cleric before pulling herself together and resuming her position and letting Karib continue with his questioning. 'She seems too willing to give us the information about the army heading north. I wonder if that is misdirection on her part.' the monk thinks to herself 'Perhaps Laosin has reliable information on the location of the army.'
Karib shakes his head at her resistance, "Your best course is cooperation, if you want rest and food," he says.
When she finally answers, he nods. "I see."
Pausing his questioning, he focuses his mind for a moment, drawing strength from Gond. The exercise helps calm him as he thinks for a few moments.
"And what, exactly, were you to do with them once hatched?"
Again he stares at the prisoner.
(( I did not remove the incorrectly used 2nd level spell earlier, and Karib now uses 'Harness Divine Power' to regain one 1st level spell...giving 2 remaining slots in total, I think! If she succeeds on a saving throw the second time, he will also use his free use of Silvery Barbs to force a reroll ))
OOC: I accounted for that extra spell slot, just went back and double checked the rolls just in case, so far there's been 1 casting of zone of truth and 6 castings of command, so Karib has used all of his spells prior to Harness Divine Power.
This time Mondath grits her teeth through the compelled commanding and chuckles, coughing a short reply, "Does it matter? Rezmir is leagues ahead of you."
Karib sighs, "Give an honest and complete answer and you get food tonight," he says. He yawns, and looks genuinely like he does not care about her choice. "Otherwise we begin again in the morning."
(( He'll stop by for one last question before they depart ))
"I couldn't give a dishonest answer if I tried," Mondath grins back through sunken eyes.
OOC: Characters have gained the benefits of a long rest. If we're ready to move on, go ahead and indicate what the party is doing in the morning and I'll advance us. If Karib has anything else to do with Mondath we can include that as well.
Before leaving his uncle and aunt's the night before, Rogram gives to Dorgol the gold-and-sapphire ring, precious stones, and string of pearls the party found in the cave. "These appear to be from Greenest. I don't want to chance losing them as we head north. If you can find out whose they are, return them. Otherwise, I'll deal with them after I get back. Hopefully with Pa."
Before going to bed, Rogram works a little in the shop, sharpening his sword, hammering out the dings his shield has received, and cleaning and polishing his scale mail. If Karib is interested in the shop — wants to work or has questions — Rogram does not feel at all possessive; he hopes the cleric will feel at home.
At sunrise, the half-dwarf is at his mother's cairn. He summarizes all that's been going on lately, even though he has told her in his mind a hundred times already. For the most part, he is solemn, but when he tells her how he has remembered and used some of the spells she used to use when he was a child, he becomes excited and nostalgic. Finally, he promises her that he will find Mathon and bring him back to her. He doesn't linger, and is soon back at his home and ready to leave whenever the others are ready.

If Karib is interested in the shop — wants to work or has questions — Rogram does not feel at all possessive; he hopes the cleric will feel at home.
(( I'm not sure if Karib knows how to find Rogram, but if he had the opportunity he would certainly assist Rogram and/or repair his own gear! ))
Yevele will head to bed early, while Rogram and Karib are working in the blacksmith shop. In the morning, she will be up slightly before sunrise and step out of the house to begin practicing her maneuvers with her sword for a half hour or so before heading back inside to see if she can assist in preparing breakfast for the small group. She is ready to hit the road and eager to see Laosin again.
OOC: We're playing a little fast and loose here but there would be enough time inbetween the interrogation and sleep for Rogram to show everyone to his home for the night.
I've removed 1 gp from each character's inventory to account for cost of living expenses for the day in Greenest.
If we are ready to depart for Elturel, how would the party like to travel there?
After breakfast, Karib reminds his new friends he wants to ask Mondath one more question, and Yevele asks how they plan to travel to Elturel.
Adjusting his equipment, Rogram replies without hesitation, "By cart, right?" He looks at the other two, who look back a little surprised at the half-dwarf's declaration. "That's ... how the caravans always travel," he continues, looking back and forth between the humans. Then, rolling his eyes toward the ceiling, Rogram stomps a foot. Grinning, he says, "I guess we need a horse and cart if we're going to travel by cart, right?" he almost laughs. "Karib, go ask Mondath your question. Yevele and I will take care of the cart." He tells Karib where to meet them, and Rogram leads Yevele through Greenest to where they can purchase a horse and wagon.
Rogram is planning to pay for both the horse and the wagon. He's got more gold than he knows what to do with. If Yevele absolutely insists on helping, he'll graciously accept. Anything the salesman suggests, Rogram will agree to unless Yevele advises otherwise. I'll leave it up to the DM to decide how gullible the salesman knows Rogram is.
Yevele will insist on helping to pay for the cost of the cart and horse, and with her intelligence (15) and wisdom (16), might be better at spotting a bad deal than Rogram. The monk will speak up if she thinks the merchant is taking advantage of her.
Karib nods and heads back to the gaol, descinging to the room in which Mondath is secured. Once more he goes through the process of casting his spells and puts her to the question.
OOC: It's 15gp for a cart, 35 gp for a wagon, 50 gp for a draft horse and 75 gp for a riding horse. However Rogram and Yevele would like to split whichever combination you choose is up to you.
While Rogram and Yevele procure the necessities for travel along the road to Elturel, Karib returns to the makeshift jail beneath the Keep where Frulam Mondath is still in terrible shape from the previous day's ordeal. Unable to escape the zone of truth, the cultist eventually succumbs.

"We were to stay to defend the hatchery and guard the eggs."
She glowers at the cleric.
