Thia takes a deep, steadying breath and curls the two wayward strands of hair over her ears. Stepping up to the grate she takes the key out and tries to open the rusty looking lock.
Rogram quickly inspects the edges of his blade for signs of wear where it had grazed and even hit the stone floor. "Well," he says, his voice sounding slightly jovial, "now that we have the hard part out of the way ..."

Thia DEX: 16
Even with the key in hand, Thia is hard pressed to open the grate. Years of neglect and exposure have corroded the lock so badly that she may as well be using thieves' tools to pick it. A few moments of jiggling and jangling finally work it free, however, and the grate groans as it swings slightly open.
Yevele stepped aside to let Thia get to the gate with the key. With adrenaline still flowing threw her veins after the rat attack, the young monk was ready to move on and engage the raiders surrounding the church. But, standing there in the tunnel, she recalled Lao Te telling her "Haste in battle leads to wasted lives. Don't be too eager to fight, or you'll get yourself killed." While waiting for Thia to work the key in the lock, Yevele stood still practicing some of the meditation skills she'd been taught in the monastery.
Thrax growls as the rats scurry past, hissing through his gritted teeth at the vermin. He turns his attention to the gate, and does his best to peer out and see what lies beyond as Thia works the locks.

When Smoke is done finding his daggers he will see Thia opening the lock as Rogram tries to lighten the mood. Thats the spirit.
If nobody goes out yet Smoke will move up to the front.
Now lets see if anyone heard us.He will sneak outside, quietly pushing the gate open just enough to fit his feline body through the gap and try to see if its clear to open the gate for the others.
It Smoke does not see anybody near or that has noticed him he will open the gate further and wave the others to follow.
Smoke does not see any sign of potential enemies outside of the grate. True to the governor and castellan's word, the banks of the stream are heavily shielded by dense brush and thickets. However, when he opens the gate and steps outside, he is alerted to the sound of someone moving through this brush, and ducks back inside just in time to avoid being spotted.
A group of raiders seem to be searching the banks of the stream. A half dozen kobolds follow lazily behind a pair of humans meandering to the side of the stream around fifty yards away from the tunnel, on the same side of the stream. Their slow pace indicates that they have not yet seen anything.
OOC: It's difficult to tell from the inside of the tunnel, as you are unsure exactly where in the stream you are exiting to, and the stream bends in each direction. One could, however, try to move out into the stream to get a better view.
Rogram looks at Smoke. "From what I've seen," he says to the tabaxi, "you have a stealthy way about you. Do you feel comfortable spying on these to try to determine whether it's safe for us to proceed?"
Assuming Smoke agrees to spy on the group moving along the drainage, Yevele will put a finger over her lips for silence from the group, and then motion everyone back into the tunnel. She will pull the grating back toward them, but, not enough for it to latch. The monk will stand against a wall of the tunnel, holding the grating in place until the Tabaxi lets them know it is safe to proceed.
Smoke smiles as Rograms words looking at his body for a moment almost blushing if you could see it through the fur. Whispering Well i .. try.
He then happily agrees with spying on the group with a nod feeling good about himself. As he steps out again Smoke is carefull and moves slowly but then realises to get a good view he has to get into the stream. Into the water. A shiver runs down his spine as his mood and tail droop down. He closes his eyes a moment cursing himself for getting distracted and not thinking ahead.
His vanity not allowing himself to back down he turns around to Yevele. I might need to hold on to the rope. Assuming Yevele agrees he takes one end and ties it around his waist as gently tries to move through the brush into the stream. Not knowing how fast the current is and not being a great swimmer. Smoke will trust in his companions to hold on to the other end should he get in trouble.
Getting further into the water Smoke will try to determine where the patrol is heading and perhaps get an idea of what they are looking for.
With Yevele's assistance, Smoke crouches into the brush at the side of the stream. Standing within the water that masks the sound of his approach, he becomes just another shadow in the nightlit landscape.
For Smoke:
The group is doing little more than meandering. Even as you crouch below them, they walk right past, noticing neither you nor the tunnel entrance. Gauging their direction, you determine that they are moving away from the sanctuary that is your destination. After a few more seconds, they stand fifty feet to the opposite side of the tunnel, still moving away.
Thrax volunteers to go next, he watches Smoke intently with unblinking eyes. Once he receives the signal, he is ready to submerge himself entirely in the water in order to quietly make it to the other side.

Smoke will move back to the group a bit waving them to come. Whispering Lets go, its clear.
He will then rapidly swim, as best he can, to the other side trying to pull himself out of the water. Trying to keep his head above water at all costs. (A bit unsure where we are on the map, so if we dont need to cross he will swim back to the groups side instead).
Once Smoke is out of the water he will start patting himself down trying to rub off some water, clearly not to his satisfaction. Both corners of his mouth will droop down to an all time low including his ears and tail. His wet tail.. There is no more joy left to be found in Smoke at the moment. Distracted by the water he mumbles to himself.
This body is not made for swimming.. look at this fur..
He shakes his head
It will take ages to dry, its cold, wet.
Smoke sigh and starts speaking in an annoying voice to mock Hes to vain, teach him a lesson..
Damn you..he cuts his sentence short as the group gathers near him, snapping out of his thoughts for the moment.
He will tell the group what he saw They were not searching the grounds, they were heading somewhere.
Thia whispers to Rogram, and Yevele. "I think we are best to wait a few more moments before we cross. The group seem to be just wandering away, so let's give them time to disperse. Oh, and the last one out should pull the gate closed and make sure it's not easily visible from outside." Taking her own advice, she closes her eyes and counts to 60, giving the patrol another minute to move away.
Assuming the coast is still clear, she then follows the others into the stream and wades/crosses to the other side, as quietly as she is able.
"I don't think we need to cross," Rogram says. He points southeast. "The temple is on this side just beyond those trees." He looks around. "Though, if we do cross, it will create a barrier between us and any invaders if we're spotted." Rogram is willing to do either.
Yevele agrees with Rogram and says "From the tower, it looked like the temple is on this side of the stream. I don't see any need for us to go into the water, unless the vegetation on the bank forces into the water. What sort of marching order should we take, Smoke scouting the route in front of us, Thrax and I in the front of the main group, and Rogram and Thia behind us?"

Are they traveling in the temple's direction or away from it? If we wait until they pass and proceed, will we avoid them or will we be following them?
