Rogram continues to feel the bruises and unhealed cuts of the previous day and night as he walks beside and sometimes behind the wagon as they push through the forest. He spends many quiet moments replaying the times he spent with Arietta, trying to find any cracks in the metal of her lies. What had he missed? He's having trouble finding any, even now. He doesn't like it, but he also takes solace in the fact that everyone in the caravan seemed to accept them. No one seemed to suspect that they were trouble. Still, he feels like an idiot. He'd never make the mistake of following someone into the woods alone again.
The trees on the side of the road suddenly explode with motion, leaves and branches flying into the open as large insectoid bodies come crashing out of them. Merchants and travelers alike scream at the sight of the pair of giant spiders, each nearly ten feet long, that surge toward the caravan with their fangs bared. Perhaps even more unnerving are the three monstrosities that accompany them: Hunched and bloated humanoid spiders the size of a human. By the time the caravan guards are able to react to the situation, two of these creatures have moved to Edhelri's and Nyerhite's wagons, seemingly focused on using their claws on the reins of the horses.
Round 1 Order: Players <===== Enemies
Placement: There are three ettercaps and two giant spiders remaining. All combatants are within movement range of one another.
Health: Rogram is severely wounded.
OOC: As usual on the caravan, there are other enemies that the other guards are handling in the background, and the party is dealing with the enemies listed in the placement section above.

Rogram's first impulse is to run into the fray, but something — perhaps his lingering injuries — fills his head with second thoughts. Instead, he decides to throw a javelin, staying a safe distance away. At least for now.

Merric looks up sharply at a sound in the trees, just before the spiders break out of the forest. Reacting quickly, he draws his bow and with an elvish whisper enchants his arrow with binding magic. He fires an arrow at the ettercap attacking Edhelri’s horses, hoping to defend his employers wagons.
Attack: 12 Damage: 6 plus 3 psychic damage.
(On a hit, target makes a DC12 STR save or is restrained and takes 1d6 damage at start of its turn.)
OOC: Botting Karib with [Tooltip Not Found] against a giant spider. Assuming that the target of Rogram's attack is a giant spider as well since a target was not declared.
The ettercaps remain undeterred by Akira's flame and Merric's arrow; the one near Edhelri's wagon even continues to tear at the reins of the horses when thorny vines writhe around it, piercing its skin and restraining it. The other ettercap and the giant spiders place themselves between the guards and the ettercaps, launching thick webbing from their abdomen. Merric and Akira avoid the strands, but Rogram is not so fortunate as his javelin is caught mid-air by the webbing and the rest holds fast to his legs, pinning him to the ground. Radiant flame dances across the body of a giant spider to little effect as Karib enters the fray.
Round 2 Order: Players <===== Enemies
Placement: There are three ettercaps and two giant spiders remaining. All combatants are within movement range of one another.
Health: Both ettercaps attacking the reins of the horses are lightly wounded. One giant spider is lightly wounded.

Akira telepathically calls out to her familiar and sends it to help get Rogram unrestrained using its talons.
She then turns to the ettercap that is restrained and light into it again, this time with Burning Hands, sculpting her evocation spell to ensure only the monster(s) in its path are harmed.
OOC: Assuming the ettercap will roll dex save with disadvantage?
Damage: 7

Karib arrives late at the clearing, sweat dripping from his scratched and bruised head, his own frantic search having resulted in a few too many collisions with low branches on the way.
He says nothing to Rogram, and just sits on a log nearby, the relief plain to see on his face.
Summoned from his daze by Akira's call, Karib utters another prayer to Gond, his eyes following the young half-dwarf. Energies seem to gather around Rogram as his worst wounds seem to heal somewhat. Karib them moves to place himself between the enemies and Rogram as his staff once more warps into a more threatening version of itself.
"Gah!" Rogram complains as the webbing not only halts his projectile, but also gathers around his boots, cementing him to the ground. He almost falls as he attempts to lift one leg and finds it immovable. The flutter of wings right by his head, causes the half-dwarf to jump, but as Akira's familiar dives and begins to attack the webbing, Rogram pulls with all of his might to free himself before the giant spiders can advance and make a meal out of him.
OOC: DM, just verifying that you apply XP. Also, I'm letting you make the strength save with advantage to break free.

Merric grins as his enchantment takes hold and he sees the thick vines wrap themselves around the ettercap. “Keep them away from the horses!” he warns the others. He draws another arrow and sends it toward the restrained ettercap and nimbly dances back away from the other enemies in an attempt to keep out of their range.
Akira's flame courses from her hands, but the ettercap relentlessly rips and shreds the horses' reins. The horses stamp and rear back, attempting to escape the monstrosity and the heat of the flames. Merric's arrow strikes the creature in its side; it hisses but maintains its focus on its prize along with its companion. Akira suddenly feels claws rake at her back as the third ettercap surrounds her.
Rogram, healed by Karib as the cleric emboldens his staff, rips himself free of the webbing to see the pair of massive spiders closing in on Merric and Karib. Bearing down on them quickly, spider fangs send poison coursing through their veins, nipping and tearing at skin as they try to avoid the imposing creatures.

Rogram is wounded. Akira is lightly wounded. Karib is lightly wounded. Merric is lightly wounded.
Ammunition: Merric has used 2 arrows. Rogram has thrown 1 javelin.
"No rest for the wicked, eh?" Karib says as he strides forward, chanting under his breath. Hoping to distract the spider from any thought of attacking Rogram he strikes first as a glowing golden hammer appears in the air in front of the restrained ettercap, swigning for it's exposed head.
His imagination filling his mind with the image of the ettercaps munching down on a horse lunch, Rogram heads straight for the two-legged beast attacking the reins. On the way, he draws his axe. Swinging the weapon hard, he yells, "No!" Not slowing his momentum, the half-dwarf attempts to throw his shoulder and push the creature back. (If he succeeds, he continues forward to stand between the ettercap and the reins.
Attack: 8 Damage: 10
If it hits: Mobile Flourish. You can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration and deal extra damage equal to the number you roll on the die (2). You can also push the target up to 5 ft. plus the number rolled. You can then use your reaction to move up to your walking speed to an unoccupied space within 5 ft. of the target.

Merric ducks and weaves as he tries to avoid the fangs of the giant spider attacking him. In close quarters with the spider, he leaves his bow and draws two short swords strapped on the outside of his quiver. He strikes at the giant spider’s head twice, trying to keep it off of him.
