OOC: Because you only have one interaction with an object per turn (and a second interaction in one turn requires an action), Merric will only be able to draw one of his swords this turn and still make an attack (the Dual Wielder feat is the only way I know of to draw two weapons at the same time using an interaction, but please correct me if I have missed something here). I'll use the first attack for this turn.
Karib's spiritual weapon and Akira's missiles strike the ettercaps as they finally tear the reins free from the horses on Edhelri and Nyerhite's wagons. Limping away, the wounded ettercaps begin to lead the horses into the forest. "No! Stop them!" Edhelri shouts from her place in the back of the wagon as the other guards of the caravan struggle against other arachnid attackers at the edge of the forest (moving away from Rogram's melee range).
Merric's blade cuts deep into the throat of the giant spider attacking him. Seeing its ettercap companions starting to draw away from the wagons, this spider and the ettercap near Akira fire thick webbing from their abdomens toward those giving chase, but the webbing misses its mark.
Round 4 Order: Players <===== Enemies
Placement: There are three ettercaps and two giant spiders remaining. One ettercap is near the forest with the horses from Nyerhite's wagon. One ettercap is restrained and has freed the horses from Edhelri's wagon. Rogram is engaged in melee combat with this ettercap. Merric is engaged in melee combat with one giant spider. Karib is engaged in melee combat with one giant spider. Akira is engaged in melee combat with the third ettercap. All combatants are within movement range of one another except the ettercap with Nyerhite's horses, which is 45 feet away.
Health: The restrained ettercap is badly wounded. The other ettercap with the horses is badly wounded. The giant spider attacking Merric is wounded.
Rogram is wounded. Akira is lightly wounded. Karib is lightly wounded. Merric is lightly wounded.
Ammunition: Merric has used 2 arrows. Rogram has thrown 1 javelin.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: I take it I can use my reaction to attack the ettercap that moved away.
Disappointed that his attack has once again fallen short, Rogram almost misses the opportunity to swing at the retreating ettercap. He swings his axe at it, and then follows up with another attempt to harm the creature still before him.
Merric twists and avoids the webbing shooting from the spider to his front. Drawing his second short sword, he doubles his attacks on the spider, trying to dispatch it so he can focus on the ettercaps next. “Get the horses, don’t let them drag them away!” he shouts to the others.
Karib shakes his head at Rogram's willingness to enter combat as wounded as he is, but returns his focus to the spider in front of him while again commanding the spiritual hammer to attack the restrained ettercap.
OOC: The fleeing ettercaps are dead by the time Akira casts her fire bolt, so redirecting it to the remaining giant spider, the only remaining ranged combatant.
The ettercap is not fast enough to leave the wagons, as Rogram's axe carves into its spine, felling it before it can move anywhere with the horses. Edhelri rushes over to grab the reins before the horses can further panic, doing her best to calm them amidst the frenzy of combat. The other ettercap trying to capture horses is struck down by Karib's spiritual weapon while the cleric tries futilely to fend off the giant spider bearing down on him. The spider sinks its teeth into Karib's arm; he feels the biting poison driving through his veins, threatening to slow and seize his muscles. A blast of fire slams into the spiders abdomen and it releases its bite, hissing and clacking at Akira's intrusion on its meal. Akira is distracted in turn by the ettercap near her, avoiding its fangs but feeling its claws nearly tear through her scales.
Merric severs the head of the other spider with two quick slashes, turning the tide of the fight.
Round 5 Order: Players <===== Enemies
Placement: One ettercap and one giant spider remains. Karib is engaged in melee combat with the giant spider. Akira is engaged in melee combat with the ettercap. All combatants are within movement range of one another.
Health: The giant spider is lightly wounded.
Karib is severely wounded. Rogram is wounded. Akira is lightly wounded. Merric is lightly wounded.
Ammunition: Merric has used 2 arrows. Rogram has thrown 1 javelin.
As the giant spider falls before him, Merric pulls his shortswords out of its carcass and races over to aid Karib. He drives both blades deep into the remaining spider’s abdomen.
Rogram is heartened by his successful attacks. Perhaps the axe isn't his enemy. But he suppresses his desire to celebrate. He moves to the remaining ettercap and swings his axe at the creature.
(( To avoid another round-robin I'll just have Karib act the same no matter what ))
Buoyed by the defeat of most of their enemies, and confident that his friends will assist him no matter what befalls him, Karib ignore his (grievous|minor) wounds and focuses the last of his energies on the spider in front of him, while at the same time calling on Gond's hammer to do the same.
The spider rears up in front of Karib, dripping venom from its fang as it opens its mouth in a pained screech, struck broadside by Akira's fire again. The creature backs away from the swings of Merric's swords, but the magic flowing through Karib's staff punches through the spider's stomach, spilling its guts onto the side of the road where it curls up in its dying throes.
Akira continues to back away from the remaining ettercap, keeping its fangs away from her, but she can't avoid the claws at the end of its lanky armspan, feeling them slice through scales again. The ettercap is in a frenzy, swinging away while Rogram comes to her aid.
Round 6 Order: Players <===== Ettercap
Placement: Akira and Rogram are engaged in melee combat with the remaining ettercap. All combatants are within movement range of one another.
Health: The ettercap is lightly wounded.
Akira is badly wounded. Rogram is wounded. Karib is lightly wounded. Merric is lightly wounded.
Ammunition: Merric has used 2 arrows. Rogram has thrown 1 javelin.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Merric recoils as Karib destroys the giant spider, letting out a low whistle of admiration at the strike. Wasting no time, he moves over to the last remaining ettercap in front of Akira and slashes across its torso with his shortswords.
Karib shakes his head as the spider collapses. The massive insect was just a denizen of the forest, it belonged there, was part of the natural balance. But the ettercaps? The ettercaps were another matter. They herded the spiders and led them to attack the caravan and were responsible for their senseless death.
Cursing whatever fate led the ettercaps to the spiders and then to attack their caravan, Karib strides over to the last remaining enemy, ordering his hammer to do the same. "Crush the abomination!"
The ettercap ducks beneath Rogram's swing and unleashes a taunting series of clacks and hisses, spittle flying from its mouth. Suddenly beset by Merric, the monstrosity changes its tune as the elf avoids the flailing limbs and opens wounds in its torso. Karib brings the creature to its knees when he arrives, smashing his staff into its hamstring. His hammer finishes the job, and the ettercap falls to the ground with its skull caved in.
Leda and The Pole seem to have taken down a giant spider of their own nearby, while the guards of the cult's assumed wagons work with Orvustia and Tyjit to similarly take down the last remaining ettercap in sight.
As the caravan quiets again, after a smattering of applause from the travelers for another successful defense, Edhelri approaches the party, bowing low to Merric. The reins of the horses are still in her hands. "I did well in hiring you. You protected the animals well. And thank you to the rest of you as well. Who knows what was waiting further in the forest if they had succeeded at dragging the horses away?" she ponders.
OOC: Each character has received 437 XP for defeating the ettercaps and giant spiders, and an additional 300 XP for preventing the horses from being taken.
Despite his less-than-stellar performance (again), Rogram smiles as the last ettercap falls. He joins in to cheer as the caravan celebrates surviving another assault. He moves over to Akira and places a hand on her arm. "Are you alright?" He looks within himself to try to heal her, but finds his stores depleted. He frowns and turns to his human friend. "Can you do anything to ease her injuries, Karib?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Merric shakes the blood and ichor off his shortswords and goes to recover his arrows, examining each one before returning it to his quiver, then moves to help Edhelri with the horses. He gives his employer a smile and nods at her compliment “I’m just glad I could be of help. I didn’t want to have to pull the wagons myself.” He looks up as Rogram calls for help, moving over to Akira and examining her wounds before placing a poultice on the worst of them and healing what he can. “This should help a little bit for now.”
Karib takes a few moments to calm himself after the last enemy falls, then surveys the scene for any lurking threats. When he is sure that there are none left he leans heavily on his staff which once more becomes a simple staff as the golden hammer fades from sight.
He reacts with a start at Rogram's request for help, calling out to the caravan in general, "Are there any fallen?"
When he find no allies fell in the fight he gives a brief prayer of thanks to Gond before turning to Akira, "You fought bravely though perhaps a little too close to the front line, eh?". He reaches out a hand as the worst of Akira's wounds begibg to heal. "This should help, but I think we could all do with a rest."
Heal: 7 for Akira.
