Chatter and steps can be heard from the gates. Linene, followed by several town militia enter the room. "Good work, heroes. We will hold this area, and scout the rest of the fortress. The night grows late. Why not rest through the night? You have done your part well."
Leovold looks over the body of the spider for what it was doing here. "I appreciate your help with the rest but do tell us if any other large monsters need to be delt with here. Or if there is anything that might help us slay a dragon."
The party inspects the spider corpse and finds a gold signet ring that bears a crest: a handaxe clutched in a dwarven gauntlet. They also find a platinum amulet on a thin but sturdy gold chain. It bears a symbol of a hammer and anvil.
...the party decides to rest through the night.
...
The adventurers wake at dawn. The villagers of Phandalin are situated in various places, from the wagons, to temporary tents outside the gates, and in the large room that was previously cleared of monsters. Toblen Stonehill greets the party as they wake. "Fancy some breakfast, fellas? I got some stew boilin' right outside. Thank ya again for all ya done. Linene and the local volunteer militia's all we got usually. Definitely couldn't be clearing fortresses of crazy spider monsters on a regular basis all by ourselves." He shudders at the memory of the creature. "Linene done cleared that thing out of here. ...speaking of which..." he says, turning to a now open door on the opposite side of the room.
Linene walks in, followed by members of the militia. Her hammer has visible blood stains on it. "The fortress is currently clear as far as we know. But I wouldn't let the villagers move deeper in until we've done a final check. Find me Halia Thornton. And the dwarves!"
...
Norbus approaches the adventurers just as they are finishing breakfast. He turns to Leovold. "They want us to help you explore the fortress to make sure there aren't any more threats. We know how good you are at finding hidden things after the temple." He pulls out a map.
The adventurers move south through the lower halls of the stronghold, passing through two sets of double doors, finding themselves in a throne room.
The stench of death hangs heavy int he air of this dusty, pillared hall, which has a dark, soot-stained fireplace at the east end. A deep alcove in the south wall contains a dais, atop which rests a limestone throne flanked by granite statues of dwarf warriors. Between the throne and the fireplace is a hallways with stairs leading up.
Leovold will ask the dwarves if there is any significance or magical properties to the items they found on the spider.
He looks around as they enter deeper into the fortress.
Perception8
He struggles to hear over the clinking of his own chainmail and see over the shield he is holding up to ward off possible danger. It has absolutely nothing to do with the cloak dramatically billowing around. That is helping.
Norbus observes the gold signet ring and explains that it bears the Axeholm crest. He immediately recognizes the platinum amulet as the holy symbol of Moradin, the dwaraven god of creation.
Leovold turns to observe the throne room after receiving this information, but his billowing cloak brushes Norbus across the face in the process. "Hey! Be careful Mr. Lion!" he says uncomfortably. This distracts Leovold from being able to observe the room on a deeper level.
Nimue walks around the throne room and inspects the door on the West side of the room. If the door is open she will send an invisible Magis in to check out the western room.
Magis enters the western room to find a dining room. In the middle of the room, a long carved stone dining table is flanked by a pair of equally long wooden benched. Above the table hang two iron chandeliers, their candles long since melted away.
To the south is another room. The door is left open to reveal a kitchen. Metal dishware, utensils, and drinking mugs are scattered throughout. A stone sink is equiped with a faucet.
