Dorian sits up and takes in what's happening. "Unfortunately not. Magic cannot pass through it, in either direction. I'll have to drop the dome if you want me to assist in the fight, unless anyone has a light crossbow to loan."
I had an action all set, then I realized I wasn't sure on something. Is the vampire's coffin outside of the hut? If so that changes everything... Was it too big to fit inside with the rest of the group?
Yaren wakes up, and looks around, seeing the Zorbos. He then gets out his crystal ball, which looks like a semi-transparent black orb. As he holds it, his eyes turn dark, and dark mists begin to swirl around it.

Definitely outside. Spell ends if a creature larger than medium also 9 fit comfortably and there's already 8 PC's in there and the coffin lacks firm dimensions, bit it is 500lbs+dwarf and could fit exactly 2 medium creatures inside. Also it's basically like parking a car outside the hut, it's built tough and has a very awake vampire listening (looking?) Out all night. I can't justify putting that thing inside the hut.
OOC: I think we're all waiting to see who will make the first move. Would Huarache have been sleeping in his armor? I think XGtE says that sleeping in medium and heavy armor has no negative effects, but also that positive effects (regaining hit dice and losing exhaustion) are mitigated.
Well, I think it's the first group, and most of us are in the last group. Dorian's owl will keep an eye out for a second group of attackers still in the trees.
She then steps through the wall of the hut and inside. "I'd suggest using mundane ranged weapons from inside the hut." She tells the others as she pulls out a second javelin. "They can do nothing to us while we are in here, while we are free to attack, with ranged weapons, as much as we like. Just watch in case they go for the coffin, don't want them to somehow tear that open..."
(The way I understand the tiny hut spell, and as written anyway, those inside can use mundane ranged weapons all they wish, just magical attacks cannot be used to attack someone outside. Nothing, from outside, can enter as far as attacks go.)
Any nonmagical that was in the spell area when it was cast can travel through the walls. I'd have to check magic projectiles. Notably though, I'm under the impression you guys slept in this thing during the night. These diurnal creatures just woke up at the crack of dawn, which means that your tiny hut is probably not long for this world.. I'm not going to ask when the spell was cast, it's a bit late to declare you've been traversing the jungle at night and sleeping during the day.
In the meantime, there's still a steel defender out here, right? The owl can't attack, so I'm guessing it won't do anything, maybe fly away? But I do expect the defender to defend, just kinda waiting on that.

No penalties for sleeping in your armor. It's a cumbersome mechanic that slows the flow of the game, so only take it off to sleep if you want that gritty realism.
Steel Defenders only do the Dodge action on their turns unless their master uses a bonus action to command them to do something else. They can also take reactions on their own. Huarache could order Echo to attack at any point in time.

like.. now? or after he gets clocked by a ravenous Koala? aha. so this is a mechanical thing. You cant 'act' to 'tell' the thing to do something. well. that clears that up. We can chat to decide if that rule as written makes sense for our game.
Here is a rough map of the action. I'm still trying out different mapping tools. this is dungeonmapdoodler. Results are less than spectacular, but if the description was unclear, maybe this will help. I realize I said the zorbos were 45ft from the hut. That would put them still in the trees, still, which would give them some degree of cover, screwing up your ranged attacks potentially. that was an error on my part, I meant 45ft from the center of the hut, i.e. where the spell 'tiny hut' was centered, thus 35ft from the walls. Im not sure all of the zorbos on the image match that, but its after midnight, so it will have to do for now.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Leann has already run back into the hut, image does not reflect this fact. Also, just realized I forgot to put Ctenmiir on the map. he's at the 6 o'clock position above Z7.
The zorbo easily dodges Leann's javelin as she runs into the hut, all the zorbos hoot and howl, closing in on the hut.
Z4 and Z5 claw futilely at the air, trying to grab the owl, to no avail.
Z6, Z7 and Z8 attack Ctenmiir's coffin, which doesn't react in any observable way, though their slashing claws seem to do minimal damage. They clambor atop the metal box and start pounding with their fists (paws?)
Z6 9 damage: 9
Z7 13 damage: 7
Z8 23 damage: 9
Z1, Z2 and Z3 all attack the iron defender, pouncing on the construct with brutal ferocity
Huarache is rather upset about Echo being attacked, and he will fire his blunderbuss at the first Zorbo. Attack: 18 Damage: 18 (non-magical piercing)
Echo will use Force-Empowered Rend on the first Zorbo. Attack: 22 Damage: 8 (force)
Now that I've seen how the attack went, Huarache will use his second attack to reload his weapon with non-magical ammunition. I'm going to be unreachable for the next several hours; I'm going to bed. EDIT: Just remembered, I did not roll initiative. 20 is Huarache's initiative, and I've already explained what he's doing. If Zorbo 1 is dead by my turn, then Huarache and Echo are attacking either Zorbo 2 or 3, but they're attacking the same one unless Huarache downs one of them.
You can all just post as a group initiative. Hut dwellers are group 3.
Z1 takes a shot to the flank, clearly inflicting tremendous pain as he wails in agony, but does not relent in his assault on the four-legged machine. The hound bites back in defense, but narrowly misses his target, distracted perhaps by its other assailants.

mean I can't take my magical quarterstaff outside the hut? I would read the spell as "spells can't be shot through the wall, and a spells area can't go through the wall, but magic items, as 'objects within the dome as you cast this spell', can go through it".

It was supposed to be 'anything excluding magic effects'. That's all. Guns specifically, though, can be weird - like is an Eldritch cannon shooting magic bullets? What about a magic stone spell. Tricky at least.
Huarache groggily sits up and tries to figure out what's going on. I assume he sees the zorbos.
"Dorian," he whispers, slowly slipping his arm into his shield, "would magical ammunition be able to pass through this dome?"

Very well...
Leann throws a javelen at one of the creatures...
Attack: 6 Damage: 4

If that's the case, then Huarache has bullets.
