Kazri casts Plant Growth but is rather disappointed with the effects as there are no plants living here in the arctic landscape so close to the Reghed glacier. The Elk tribe members rush forward and engage the Tiger tribe in combat giving you an opportunity to race past them and make a break for the glacier.
You run the last half-mile and reach a spot where an immense, glistening wall of blue ice stands before you. It seems impenetrable, but then you notice that a lighter-colored stripe nearly bisects the wall at one point. This must be the frozen waterfall spoken of!
"This is it! We have found the entrance!" says Krom pointing with his hammer at the colored stripe on the wall of ice. "I'll guard our back while Rhogar reads the incantation written on the Codicil." continues the dwarf. Krom turns his back to the waterfall and standing firmly on the artic ground, takes a defensive stance behind Rhogar while readying his shield and hammer.
"Not alone you will. Not if the others have anything to say about it!" Rhogar replied with a touch of mirth to his voice while reigning in duchess for a moment. "Should only take a moment. But be ready for anything!" Despite having somewhat prepared for the moment, the dragonborn's clawed fingers are only saved from groping about blindly within innards of a jacket thanks to the unnatural air about the book.
"We bow to She who wears the Crown; Let the world shiver with dread. Clad in winter's whitest gown, Her snow enshrouds the dead.
Her fury sheds but frozen tears as gray clouds issue forth. Her wind across the wasteland shears, Bring blizzards from the north..."
As bitter a taste were the words he intoned, Rhogar spoke them all same with as much vocal reverence as a true follower of the frostmaiden from the moment he found the page.
"Ice kissed flowers caught mid-bloom, beauty kept in all its grace. Summer's gone to it's silent tomb, still in her cold Embrace."
"All the world in winter's white, sheathed in sleet and ice. Set upon never-ending night, she conjures paradise..."
And on and on did the words flow freely and ever more loudly as the dragonborn persisted in the task to its completion. Gorrah, in spite of the cold, peeked her head further out from the confines of his hoodie besides his head, seeming eager to see the results of the incantation.
"Behold her everlasting rime, see how it covers all; Weep not for those she traps in time behind her glacial wall.
Sovereign of summers lost, general of winter's war; Long live the Queen of Cold and Frost, May she reign... forevermore!"

As the last words of the poem are spoken, a rumbling sound comes from deep within the glacier. The noise reaches a crescendo as the great wall of ice parts. Through the crack, you can see an opening that leads inside the glacier. Moving inside you come to a thirty-foot-high cavern. In its center, the remains of a wooden ship hull rest on the floor. 15-foot-high caves and passageways spring off from this room (H3) and are empty. A tunnel at the SW corner of this opening contains uneven, naturally formed steps that descend into darkness. The passage on the SE side has a 20 foot drop and leads south into another large cave.
The following features are common throughout the Caves of Hunger:
Ceilings. Most cavern ceilings are 30 feet high and made of smooth ice. Tunnel ceilings range from 10 to 15 feet high unless otherwise noted.
Darkness. All areas are cast in complete darkness unless otherwise noted.
Echoes. Sound travels quickly here. All Wisdom (Perception) checks to hear sounds in these caves have advantage.
Kazri approaches Krom. "Master Krom... Uhm. If you could light up my shield, it would be very helpful for someone that is not able to see in the dark." One can tell that the Paladin is slightly embarrassed.

Once the group finally reaches the first crossroad, Rhogar disembarks from his steed, and with his staff nestled in the crook of his arm and the book still in hand, clawed tipped fingers flipped through the latter pages. "Faltooka.... There must be some verse hidden here that-..."He starts to say, but quickly quiets in hearing his voice echo."Hmmm... A bit fruitless for now, but... we should mind our voices in here. Just in case." He warns the group.
"And -- Ah, yes. Heheh. Remind me to get you a pair of Goggles of Night, Lady Kazri. Though they'll pale in comparison to my own divine gifted sight, it will be better than nothing."He said with a bit of mirth to his voice. As the light situation is being handled, both he and Gorrah then began scan the area. "Seems are main means of egress, unless the rest of you are of a mind to try your hand at the drop, will be that passage there." He gestures towards south west corner. "Best we don't linger. Even if it might take them time, there's no telling how far away our tiefling wizard that got away could be from here, or what tricks she might employ to avoid notice, had she stumble upon this general area before hand... But, any volunteers for going first."
(OOC: Actually, I've been meaning to ask, as I might've overlooked it being mentionend. But did we still have our mounts? Or considering the dangerous location that was the next leg of our journey, would the party have opted to leave them behind in the last town under the care of the sisters... who's name escapes me right now.)
Chill stepped into the room and made a quick recon of the connected passages and found them empty.
"Do we not have a driftglobe? I thought we picked one up along the way, at the emporium in Bryn Shander. Check the bags, I'm certain we have one. It would be handy here, this place is dark. "
He then steps over to where the 20foot drop is and looks out to see what the next room holds for them.
He'll report what he sees and then turn his attention to the ship if there is no immediate danger.
OOC- Chill would have left his sled dogs behind. No place to keep them in the glacier. I figured we walked.
Sparkling icicles as long as longswords cling to the forty-foot-high roof of this cavern, the floor of which is strewn with frost-covered blocks of stone and a toppled pillar. Embedded in the east wall is a glittering stone tower that appears to have crashed through the ceiling long ago. The exposed wall is cracked and has a few small holes in it but is otherwise intact.
"Of course, lass," nods the dwarf as the paladin approaches him. Krom, heeding Rhogar's suggestion, keeps his voice as low as possible as he chants a hymn of evocation while touching Kazri's shield, causing it to emit a warm teal light. "Here you go."
"We are near the end of our quest, my friends. Let's steel our spirits and prepare ourselves to face whatever challange the Frostmaiden will throw at us." says Krom with firm conviction. As Chill moves towards the 20ft drop, the dwarf gets a little bit closer to the ship. "I wonder how a ship managed to find its way here, but I guess that the Faerun was different when the Neathrese flying cities soared the sky."
"I agree with Rhogar; let's take the passage there." Krom points at the south-west passage with his hammer.
(Good call Chill, but I don't have that in Kazri's inventory. I figure she would be the one that would benefit the most from it. However, I just found out that she may have something better.)
After Krom lights her shield, Kazri pauses for a moment. "Thank you Master Krom, but I just remembered something." She pulls a Lantern of Revealing from her backpack and light it up. "I believe this might benefit us better."
