Hrothgar will take a seat in the carriage and make himself comfortable. He looks out of the carriage to see them pass out of the gates and his mind drifts to the mission ahead.
Snapped out of it by Anika's request Hrothgar will look around. He knew the value of a good story, it bonds a group. Well perhaps i have one. he says then clears his throat as he begins his tale.
As you all know my father commands the Griffons Watch. A while ago he sent me out on my first mission as captain of a small group, much like this one. Little did i know i would quickly learn about a captains burden. He says setting the mood as he looks outside again trying to remember the details.
We were asked to find out why villagers went missing as they ventured into the Southwoods. East of Secomber my hometown. he adds
So we ventured into the woods and went further with every passing hour. The trees grew thick and shrugs large when we entered older parts of the forest. Parts even the light of the sun would no longer go.His hands closer to his body motioning cautious steps to create an eerie feeling in the room.
As it got darker, little did we know ..we.. would become the prey. Moving through the woods we felt our feet become heavier with each step. At first we thought we were just getting tired. But we soon realized we walked into a giant web!
His eyes widing with those last words to emphasize them greatly.
I had walked our group into a trap. he says with a grim face.
Suddenly we heard what sounded like raindrops, hundreds of little thuds.Hrothgar taps his fingers on a wood of the carriage to create the matching sound effects. Hundreds of little raindrops. But to our fear those sounds were made by the legs of spiders. Some no bigger than a baby but others the size of a small horse. Several huge spiders were upon us producing more webbing. We could not move!
He grabs one of his legs and pretends not to be able to lift it from the ground.
Creating more webbing to trap us they targetted our very own Goliath. A man almost the size of Gar here with the strenght to match. That was their mistake hehe.He chuckles
He became so angry he tore the webbing loose in a cry of rage, so strong that man. Quickly bringing down a giant sword into a spiders skull taking it down. Then swinging the blade through the webbing weakening it for the rest of us. Just in time because the next spider charged at us only to be stopped by our stout dwarven shield wall.
Fists now clenched turning a bit with every few words to gaze at everyone in the carriage to capture all of the audience.
Our short dwarven wall quickly used his hammer to smash out some of the spiders legs having it fall down to laying face to face with our dwarf before its head got crushed by his hammer. We stood holding our ground and defending around us. He taps his fingers on the wood again, this time slowing until the sound goes away completely as he says Soon most of the spiders were gone, but the fight was far from over.
His face now grim and he looks down at the floor a moment with his arms to his side. As he speaks again he raises his arms to portray the size.
Then a huge spider stood there watching us battle the last of her young. This massive beast lunging forward snapping at us with pincer like jaws. It started to bite me, i could feel the pincers draw blood. It left a scar even.
Hrothgar lifts his chain mail a bit, to showing where his skin got pierced by one of its pincers. still showing a scar. As the spider was about to bite into me fully.. splash as a crossbow bolt took out one of its eyes. The splattering got gore all over me. Making a disgusted look.
But i knew my allies had saved me there. The creature took some steps back in pain. Its look upon us once more we threw some daggers at it to keep it at bay. Some landing but others bouncing of its black chitin like armor. Trying to shield itself it lowered its head in defensive position.
One side of Hrothgars mouth curls up into a smirk. That was all he was waiting for.
In the dim light, barely visible he apeared. A small rogue with blades drawn leaping on top of the spider and in one motion bringing his daggers down to the back of the creatures head. It stumbled. Hrothgar imitates stumbling a bit to left and right with his upper body as he remains seated. Then the beast collapsed.
Finally we felt safe again but i started to notice my vision got blurry, as i looked down i saw the vile poison of the spider had gotten me. I fell to my knees and all went black.
He closes his eyes and takes a short pauze for effect.
I am here today because of my allies. I look back gratefull it was me who got injured and not those under my command. That day i learned responsibility and the burden of a captain. Ive tried to improve my abilities ever since and will look to Lanniver to teach me more.
(Sorry for the long post :) hope you guys like it. Also have a dice game we could play but the background story was more fitting for now)
"I fought against the Many Arrow when they invaded the Dwarf kingdoms. At that time it was all I wanted. Axe and Sword...honest work. Things went badly. We slew many orcs but in the end were overrun and most of my comrades were dead...and I found myself with this mark on my neck...." He touches the mark of Torm on his neck "Afterwards, my mercenary crew discharged me, and I was lost for some time. The Order feel like another chance for me. I can tell you this, I have no love for orcs."
Irzhalin tilts his head and idly runs his spindly fingers over the jewelry embedded in his left ear before unhooking a contraption and removing a red ruby from the chain of an earring. "You speak very well, Hrothgar. And you, Aer," he continues with a nod. "I have respect for those who can construct a tale about their deeds of honor." Grasping the gemstone in his hand and flicking it upward, he watches it soar into the air before casting Mage Hand using Githzerai Psionics and seemingly keeping the gem afloat, making it spin and dance in the space in front of him with a wave of his hands. "Frankly, I'm afraid I do not have much of a story to tell. I'm not quite sure how old I am in your terms - time in Limbo is strange. I made my way here through a ritual that opens portals to planes, and, well," he says, capturing the ruby and restoring it on his long, acutely pointed ears, "I'm still learning about the world I now live in."

Anika smiles warmly as they each share information about each other. "I'm glad to see that each of you have made your way here; albeit dire circumstances. My family was born into this lifestyle and the Order has been a tradition for many generations. I'm what they call a legacy. Even though I'm youngblood, I have the seasoned veteran here to look after me." she jerks a thumb to Lanniver, who just grunts under his breath while he steers the draft horses on the High Road.
Lanniver clears his throat. "I wasn't intended on being a knight. My daughter was killed by an undead creature when she was only three years old. I was filled with rage and vengeance. Throughout the years, my wife and I separated as my life took a turn for the worse. I've avenged my daughter's death, but now I try to fill the void inside by making sure this doesn't ever happen to anyone else." Lanniver says coldly, sniffling as he's getting emotional mentioning his family.
Hrothgar will listen to the others and try to make mental notes about them. He nods as a thanks when Irzhalin complements Aer and Hrothgar.
A grim fate that is. he replies to Lannivers tale of his family. Taking note that fighting undead, which we are to investigate could be personal for Lanniver.
I am glad to have met you all. If the gods will it we can drive the evils from this land to ensure the safety of others.
Hrothgar will keep a bit more to himself for the next part of the ride. Watching the lands as they pass to try and see any wildlife to get an idea of the area. If there are no signs of life it could be sign of evil in the area.
Hrothgar can't see much, considering the caravan is still on the High Road, which is a commonly travelled pathway to the city. He may spot some birds in the sky, but nothing that would seem to be a threat at the moment.
Irzhalin won't be able to spot anything unusual from this part of the trip.
The party spends several hours traveling down the High Road. Lanniver eventually steers the carriage off the High Road and onto the road that leads them to Helm's Hold. This is the point where the party sees less traffic as this isn't a commonly traversed road. The pavement is more structurally compromised than the High Road so it gets bumpy as they move along. Anika offers food and drink to everyone as it's been several hours on their journey and they're halfway there.
They spend another hour on the road, as they've been traveling for roughly 8 hours now since leaving Neverwinter at dawn. It's now in the afternoon when Lanniver abruptly stops the carriage. Anika jerks from the sudden stop. "What's going on?" she asks pertinently. "Our path is blocked." Lanniver says, as he points his finger onto a wrecked carriage on the road. "You boys want to investigate and move it out of the way?" he asks the party.
Hrothgar will step out of the carriage. While standing next to it he first takes out his shield before moving away from its cover. He will walk towards the wrecked carriage on the road but will make sure to look left and right into the bushes. Keep your eyes open.he says turning his head sideways but not taking his eyes away from the bushes.
He moves with hesitation since a carriage breaking down like this could be used as an ambush.
When moving closer he will inspect the wrecked carriage. Does he see any bodies or signs of what happened?

Gar will step out of the carriage and move toward the wreckage. "This is rather odd," he says while drawing his greataxe. He is going to look around the area for any sign of trouble.

I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
Irzhalin calmly takes his spear and patrols their own caravan. Hrothgar and Gar had the wreckage covered, and in the case of an ambush, ensuring the safety of their own carriage would be a priority.
The four cautiously approach the carriage. When they get close enough, within 10 feet or so, they begin to hear muffled groans. They'll be able to see three bodies inside, one of which is moving. The body they see appears to be eating the corpses, they can assume they died during the crash. The zombie turns its head and stares at the four, and pulls itself out of the carriage. As it stumbles out of the carriage, the other two bodies animate and start crawling out of the carriage.
Hrothgar will take a seat in the carriage and make himself comfortable. He looks out of the carriage to see them pass out of the gates and his mind drifts to the mission ahead.
