A cold breeze fills this large natural cavern, carrying with it the faint scent of decaying flesh. A crevasse divides the cavern and is flanked by two rough stone columns that support the twenty-foot-high ceiling. Two arched wooden bridges span the chasm. Description also brought forward

You don't recall anything like this being mentioned, either good or bad, but it seems very apparent to you that it likely lives here and may have been feeding on the woodcarver.

A baleful eye peers out from the darkness, its gleam hinting at a weird intelligence and unnerving malevolence. A Nothic is a monstrous creature with terrible talons and a single great eye. Its approximately man-sized and makes no sound except those of its movement which appears quite stealthy.

Velshir suspects that the time for diplomacy has passed. He will attack and then see if it begs for mercy.
On Velshir's turn, he will use his 45' movement speed to hopefully close the distance and attack with a javelin stab, after which he will use a ki point to attack with a flurry of blows
If no one appears to be taking any harm, Velshir will suggest they go forward.
