Meepo spins around, startled by the sudden question. "That dragon food. Closet Meepo used to feed Calcryx" The sad little creature begins to get weepy again just thinking about it.
A swarm of rats burst through the opening! They swarm around your legs, a few even trying to climb up! The rest scatter through the room, down the hall, and out the door you came from. "NO! Dragon food come back!" Meepo cries out and just slumps back down against the remains of the cage. "Meepo failure...and dragon food gone now...."He sobs. What remains in the closet is a heap of rotting, half-gnawed on rat corpses.
Stone grabs Meepo's arm and turns him toward the destroyed cage, "You're not telling us something. Goblins can't just smash-in metal bars of a cage meant to withstand a dragon's imprisonment. By the looks of it, there was some work done with tools, but this thing was rent apart as much as anything else. I'll pose the question again in case it wasn't clear: who or what did this?"

"AAAAHH!!! IT WAS THE FILTHY GOBLIIIINNNSSSS!" He cries out in some obvious discomfort or pain. He then gives a few barks in a language that some of you may or may not understand. Three Kobold Guards run into the room, alerted by all the ruckus!
Stone is distracted by trying to wrangle the screaming kobold and only notices the enemies once they were nearly uppn the group "Light and Fire save us from beasts of Darkness and Earth," Stone mumbles as he pushes Meepo away and toward his friends.

(Just so we're rolling correctly: Are the kobolds taking the Dodge action?)

(Don't forget to roll with Disadvantage on your attack rolls. Kobolds also make Dex saves with Advantage. Time to flank! If they're making a line in front of Meepo, I'll take the middle if our other 2 melee can move behind the side kobolds. Shouldn't be an Opp. Attack (I think) and will negate Dodge on the side enemies at least)

I'm not sure your characters would know if Kobolds make Dex saves with Advantage or not, honestly. Also, let's try not to metagame.
(Sorry, still calling for the flank since it makes tactical sense anyway :). I could see a bunch of humanoids trying to overrun a group of kobolds.)

Looking at Meepo: Sorry about that, when we get your dragon back I replace its "food".
Stone grabs Meepo's arm and turns him toward the destroyed cage, "You're not telling us something. Goblins can't just smash-in metal bars of a cage meant to withstand a dragon's imprisonment. It may make tactical sense, but that's something your character can announce on your turn.
