Hyre nods. "Yes, I'll try to bring out the best of me." 'Although I'm not sure what that means,' he thinks.
"Prepare myself? I already feel refreshed. Maybe I could take a bath though. I'm probably not too dirty, but later there will be people around." Hyre speaks his thoughts, then nods once more and heads upstairs to take a bath. The bath was especially pleasant last time, but he can't take it when the others are around. It was a good opportunity.

"Thank you, Sister," he says. "Yes, we are doing that. A certain mutual acquaintance needs some help." He taps his chest and looks meaningfully at her locket. "I'll try those pawnshops." He nods and takes his leave.
On his way back to the inn, Aelar keeps his eyes out for a pawnshop. They were all the same and thanks to his father's and his cousin's work he has some familiarity with them.
ooc: Does he spot on one his way back? If so, unless it looks particularly seedy, he will go in.

Sister Daar gives Aelar directions to a pawn shop she has used in the past to acquire some cheap clothes and tools for the homeless. When the shop owner learns Daar sent him, he gives a knowing nod and shows Aelar to a few backpacks, tinder supplies, and other simple survival tools.
He's willing to part with the used goods in 'kits' for 8 SP each, each kit containing:
a weathered but decent traveling cloak
backpack
tinder box (relatively good condition, the flint in each all seem equally worn in different ways. but still look capable of sparking)
a 'wilderness' knife (can be used for carving or hunting)
mallet
driving spikes (5) bound together with twine
a tin water flask
a length of tattered but strong rope sufficient to tie down a tent or make a snare trap with, 12 feet (roughly 3 meters).
It's actually a pretty good deal, the question is how many he wants to buy; Grimbuld didn't give an exact number, but he definitely gave the impression that should the group manage to perform well and capture a number of billhook cranes, they would be well compensated for their trouble. If 3-4 would be sufficient payment for his protection and guidance, doubling that could be well over a week's worth of expenses or more.
((For simplicity's sake, we'll say that the group pooled their money and Aelar took as much as he would feel comfortable spending with him))
Does Aelar want to buy kits for everyone, or just outfit some of them?
Meanwhile, given the difference in time, Barna finishes her training early and does her laundry at the trench after training. She heads to the saloon to hang up her clothes; the women's and men's bathing chamber has a clothes line to hang up laundry or towels on, after getting permission from Hana. She also learns that Hyre is up there, taking a bath. Barna herself needs one, and nobody else is there... she takes the chance to head upstairs, and again, opens the door to the bath, but this time, she has no intention of just peeking.
She doesn't say anything as she closes the door behind her, looking straight at him. Undoing the laces of her smock, she lets it fall away from her body as she joins him in the tub, boldly.
"I came prepared this time." she says, offering no further explanation than that, and bites his neck hungrily in a show of orcish foreplay before she slides into his lap.

Aelar looks over the goods for appearances sake, but in truth he knows little of such things. After a few minutes, he agrees to purchase one pack for each of his friends, including Barna. He doesn't want her to come but doubts she will remain behind. Still, it would be wise to be careful with their funds.
"I am not certain if we will five of these packs, or six. Can I pay for six but if we only need five, can we return the sixth, unused?"
After finishing with the merchant, Aelar takes the kits and heads back to the inn to show off his purchases and take a bath. He approaches the bathing room cautiously, knowing there's no telling who might in there or what they might be doing.

((Wouldn't Cha+Dex+Con be +3? +4 Dex, +2 Con, -3 Cha.))
1 +2? +3?
"Wha? Barna? This is the boys' bathroom." Hyre says in surprise when she enters, trying to cover his private parts. His face was red before from the heat, but it definitely turns a darker shade of red. When she suddenly drops her smock, he also looks away. "What are you doing? You're not wearing anything under..." His heart begins pounding. Then, she goes in. "Barna! You're-" Hyre begins to whisper-shout. "What do you mean 'prepared'? Prepared for what?" Suddenly, a chill runs down his spine when she bites him. "Someone might enter..." He tries to say, but doesn't actually resist her. He remembers last night and he expects more of the same, pretty much.
Hyre can cope with making out like last night and he can just barely manage the fact that they're both naked and next to each other now. If Barna tries anything beyond the other night, however, it just throws him completely off and he just 'puts the flames out' to save himself from simply collapsing. As far as Barna's concerned, after whatever it was that she tried to do, Hyre suddenly goes stiff and then pushes her away. "Stop." He says, his voice, for the kind of situation he's in, is strangely monotonous. "Not yet, I'm not ready. I can't say what will happen if you continue. You- we are progressing too quickly for me. I... too much is happening in too little time."
If she tries to continue anyway, Hyre won't resist her any further, but he won't... 'co-operate' either. His mind is desparate to save itself while his body longs for more and his feelings, barely held in check for that last attempt to stop, are like highly flammable wood, coated in oil, laid by the fire.
Varielky
((Right, right... for some reason, I thought Hyre had 6 CHA.))
Barna stops when Hyre objects. She looks surprised and disappointed, but not upset at all. She nods, and just puts her forehead against his.
"It's alright... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to push..." she says, and puts her arms around him tightly. "When we're ready. I know how to wait."
She simply settles against him and closes her eyes, stilling her blood. She pauses, and sniffs at herself. She hadn't really had a chance to properly bathe before she pounced him.
"I'll... umm... get out now. Unless you wouldn't mind me washing you...and maybe you could scrub me back?" she asks, extra sweetly.
It's then that she hears the door chime for the upper floor. She bolts upright and by reflex scrambles out of the tub, promptly falling on her butt. She just barely manages to scamper out of the bathing chamber and into the women's bath before Aelar arrives, though there'd be no way he'd miss the water trail on the floor.
The group is now down 48 SP plus another 2 SP for the rental of a Labour to carry them all back to the saloon, but they at least now all have sufficient supplies to actually leave the city and stand a good chance of surviving, and the pawn shop owner offers Aelar a receipt for the 6 kits, so if he needs to return one, he can do so with no questions asked; frankly, as Sister Daar said, he seems just happy to clear them out of his inventory.
DM, professional illustrator and comic artist, suffering from severe spinal stenosis, married, middle aged, and nerdy.
Aelar notes the water trail going from the men's bathing area and listens carefully at the door for a minute or so. Hearing nothing untoward he opens the door slowly and only when it is mostly open does he look in.
"Hello, Hyre. I see I wasn't the only one looking to get clean." Moving into the room he closes the door and makes no mention of the water trail from the tub to the door. In fact, as far as Hyre can tell Aelar doesn't even notice it. "Those slimes are useful, but I prefer an actual bath. How about you?" Getting down to his small clothes, Aelar waits patiently for Hyre to finish.
"I picked up 6 travel packs for us, for tomorrow. I hope we only need 5 and we can return one if we don't need it, but I got 6 to be safe." He looks at his friend. "I know you're not keen on this mission but, that aside, how're you feeling about tomorrow?"
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
Hyre is greatly relieved that Barna doesn't push any further. He couldn't even try to predict how he'd react. Cleaning each other doesn't bother him, but she leaves before he can express that.
Hyre gets out of the bath, dries himself with a towel and gets dressed. "I don't know," he says, "it seems like one cannot bath in peace here. Although, what did I expect of public baths, right?" Aelar can hear from Hyre's voice that he's troubled, and can also see it from the way he moves and acts. By now, he had let his defences down again and the oiled woods are carefully put into the fire, one by one, in a controlled manner. The fire is burning strong but the cook, for now at least, can still control it.
Hyre is about to leave the room when Aelar mentions the packs. He quickly adds two and two together, and he quickly approaches closer to Aelar. "Six packs? Why did you buy six of them? We're only five. I'm sure Geoffrey and Grimbuld have their own." He knows the answer, but still waits for Aelar to give his answer. Maybe Hyre was wrong. Maybe... one was for Raia on her way back? Anything he can't think of, as long as it's not for the reason he can't stop worrying about.
Varielky
"Well, you, me, Leon, Lazlo, Kallista, and Barna...if she's going. I hope she stays and told her so, told her it would be better if she stayed. I even asked Sister Daar to keep her behind but if she comes I want her to be as prepared as possible. But, you're the best one to get her to stay behind, I think. Maybe you can tell her if she goes that'll be one more thing for you to worry about about, something to occupy your mind other than on what's around us. That'll be true, won't it, Hyre?" Aelar asks gently.
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
"Maybe it will change her mind, but I doubt that. I'll try, but I doubt she'll listen to me. Listen, I don't want you to encourage her any further. If she asks, or if anyone else does, tell her you bought only five packs. Only give her the pack if we can't persuade her to stay by the time we leave, but keep it hidden from her until then. If she learns you even bought a pack for her, nothing I could say will ever stop her from going. Please, don't tell her. You only bought five. You didn't have enough money to buy one more, and that's for the best." The last two sentences are not said to Aelar, but rather to himself, trying to convince himself that the lie is true. If she asks him about it, he'll definitely hide the truth, but he'll have to convince himself first if he doesn't want to accidentally reveal the truth, or show that he's lying to her as he does so.
Varielky
Aelar nods with a smile. "I can do that. No one knows but you and me and the packs are in our room. Five it is."
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
Hyre takes a step back, relieved. "Thanks." He says. Hyre then leaves Aelar to bath by himself and heads down. His mind is busy figuring out all that's happened, but he needs to focus now; Hana needs his help in the kitchen and he doesn't want to fail again. If he can get a fixed job with Hana, that will be a major step for their lives in Guiston. Besides, from what Grimbuld said, the other residents of the Horseshoe aren't expected to be particularly happy with him once the egg hatches. He needs to get on their best side before then.

((I'm not sure where/when my PC is in the timeline (I think I'm with Leon? but did we all do laundry together then head to the saloon?)- In any case I'm following along with the reading.))
Somewhere, far from the narrative- Lazlo washes his clothes and ponders the significance of the sock. Did he need a pair? No, of course not- he has magnificent hooves that make a wonderful clip clop noise as he walks. Resolving to own at least one in his lifetime, he continues with the task at hand (whatever that may be). "So much awkwardness... all avoided with a simple sock..."

The party regroups at the saloon after having done their laundry and cleaning up, restoring themselves to good condition and relieving their exhaustion from training.
Barna however, catches Hyre before his shift working in the kitchen.
"The walls are thin in this place, Hyre." she says, clenching her jaw somewhat, but then relaxes. She doesn't want to admit she had her ear pressed up against the wall while Hyre and Aelar were talking.
"I'm not unreasonable. If you don't want me to come with you, then all you need to do is ask me to stay and I will. Even I know that a large group is harder to keep hidden. I'm disappointed you don't want me with you, but I understand that you want to reduce the risk to everyone." she states, then links her hand with his.
"Just come back in one piece." she says.
Grimbuld and Geoffrey arrive together not too much longer afterwards, Grimbuld holding a map as he enters, Geoffrey his wife's intrument. The other patrons give him a wide birth as he stalks into the saloon. Anxious whispers follow; it seems he has somewhat of a reputation amongst the population. It's little wonder he and Kallista get along, it seems, given they provoke a similar response.
"I have a task for Aelar, Kallista, and Lazlo." he states. "Should be simple enough."
He gives a look over the saloon and sees that it's not quite time for the dinner rush, and guides the group to sit at a quieter corner of the saloon, away from the other tables, tucked as close to a corner as possible.
To Kallista, he hands a mixture of herbs and only the crudest of tools.
"You may be called to make a medicine in the middle of nowhere. It's time to see what you've learned so far." he states. The herbs have an incredibly strong menthol scent mixed with something else. He then looks to Aelar.
"These herbs will assist you in opening your mind to this Raia dragon. We're going to see if you can pinpoint her location on my own map of the area, so we can chart a proper course. I don't like the idea of just using your senses as a beacon. That's a good way to get ambushed." he states.
He looks then to Lazlo.
"You will assist him in reaching a meditative state with your music." he says.
((If successful, this will lower the chances of being discovered in the wilds by a considerable amount. If it fails, you'll be entirely reliant on Grimbuld's survival skill rolls to avoid danger.))
((Lazlo, roll for performance. If successful, Kallista, you get advantage when rolling for medicine. If successful, Aelar, you roll against a DC 16, which you may apply your CHA bonus with advantage from the successfully mixed herbs. If successful, you will gain access to 1 warlock cantrip of your choice. If you get at least 10, you will be able to pinpoint Raia's position on the map.))

Hyre is ashamed of himself. Both because he didn't trust Barna to accept his request and because he wasn't careful enough and let her overhear him. "I'm sorry, I should have asked you, but considering all that you said the other night, I thought I won't be able to persuade you. Don't get me wrong, however. I don't wish you to stay because I think you'll ruin our chances of staying hidden or because of the risk that is already way too high. The reason I want you to stay is that I fear what could happen to you outside the walls. The dangers inside the walls aren't as lethal as the ones outside the walls. If anything happens to you outside the walls, just because you followed me, I don't know what I'll do with myself." He doesn't respond to her request though. He doesn't want to lie any more, and making such a promise isn't any better than lying.
