If Balgrim is MIA, what should we do going forward? - Single Choice
Shall we seek a 6th party member? - Single Choice
Stealing himself, Aelar begins climbing down their strange new companion. He has an impulse to reach inside again, but restrains himself, not wanting to take the chance of possibly disturbing the Dragon's healing slumber.
Athletics: 9
ooc: whew...was worried about that one. I'm also not sure why the two of us climbed down.
Reaching the loft, Aelar crouches, looking around the area, checking for anything small and valuable. It occurs to him they only had this girl's word for the provenance of the items here, though the crappy condition of the barn argued in her favor. He remained still, however, not wanting to risk a creaking board or anything like that.

Hyre/Aelar:
Barna goes wide-eyed when BOTH of them climb down onto the loft. She kicks her feet after Aelar lets go of her in a silent "THE **** YOU DOING?! THIS WASN'T THE PLAN!" objection. She's left dangling there, but doesn't move. She just shakes her head and mouths obscenities while she waits for them to do.... whatever it is they're doing!
While quietly looting, Hyre manages to find the locket. It's inside the wooden box she described, along with a curious looking egg. It seems to be stone, about the size of a fist. Why would the gang be hanging onto something like this?
Aelar is able to identify a couple of floor boards that have rotted a bit and have weakened, avoiding them. Also, he finds a chair that the two could use to make it easier to climb back up Barna.
Finally, the pair manage to find 27 silver pieces (Did that wrong the first time.). The coffers look like they used to be fuller, but the gang probably just spent a large portion of it drinking and who knows what else.
They also find a.... 36
silver cup. Looks like something snagged in a smash-and-grab.
However, now whoever's carrying the loot bag will have to climb up Barna one-handed.

Hyre puts the locket, the money and the cup in the bag. Seeing that Aelar went down as well, he whispers: "What are you..? Ah, nevermind that. Take this and climb up!" He shoves the bag to Aelar's hands and gives him a slight push towards Barna. Then, he picks up the stone egg and attempts to study it to see if there's any value to it.
I'm not sure which check I should make but since no proficiencies, they're all mostly the same so... 1 +2 if INT based, +1 if WIS based. If it's perception then I also have disadvantage and the second roll is 14. I think this should cover all possibilities.

OOC: I didn’t understand why both of us had to climb down but this sentence is why he did. Since that wasn’t the plan, please adjust accordingly.

(Nah nah, roll with it, this'll be more fun. After all, misunderstandings happen all the time in real life, so it should be here as well. It's fine!)

Hyre/Aelar
Hyre has no idea what the egg is, but the gang saw fit to add it to their trove, it must have SOME sort of value. It just appears to be petrified.
However, as he looks at it, he does notice something else of value. It's a purse hanging from a hook, but the boards to get to it are the rotten looking ones Aelar spotted previously. If Hyre wants to reach and get it, he'll need to make one more stealth check.
"Hurry up!" Barna whispers, and then looks to Aelar. Holding onto the bag, he'll only have one arm free to grab onto Barna with. She looks like she has an idea, and turns around so that she's now facing him. She readies her legs to catch him.

Hyre isn't sure about the stone. 'At least it can be used as a weapon, I guess', he thinks, and then he notices the purse. It certainly looks suspicious. He looks for any sort of trap that might be protecting it/connected to it.

Hyre/Aelar
It's just a purse. It's closed, but given its shape, it's not empty. It just looks like a purse that was snatched from a passerby, nothing ornate or particularly expensive. The strap would allow him to have both hands free, if he plans on keeping the egg, since he gave the bag to Aelar. The obstacle is are the floor boards in front of it, which he'll have to awkwardly step over to get to it (Which is why he'll need the stealth roll if he wants to just reach for it.)

Hyre doesn't want to take the risk. They've gotten more than he had hoped for already. He starts to go towards Barna.
Except... His greed overcomes him. He turns back to the purse and walks across the room to take it.
Stealth: 9
OOC: Well, wasn't that the obvious result? GG.

Hyre/Aelar
*Creeeeeak*
"Nngh th-**** wasssat?" comes a voice from below.
The three are out of time. Barna's eyes go wild and she looks to Aelar with urgency, motioning with her legs to just jump to her.
Hyre has enough time to put the purse on over his shoulder. It wasn't fastened onto the hook in any way. Also, it has 8 more SP in it and room to put the egg in it.
(DC athletics of 12 with advantage Aelar, Barna will help him)
Also, from Hyre and Aelar's vantage point, they can see it's a straight shot out of the barn. There's just 2 drunk gang members slumped around the doors. They could just run, if they can stick the landing after jumping from the loft. It's 10 feet to the dirt floor, not enough to hurt unless they botch the landing.

ooc: Aelar had a plan to get out of this!!! Arg
Aelar surveys the situation, understanding that he messed up the plan but seeing how to easily fix it. He goes to put the bag on the floor and ask Hyre to boost him up, as before, over Barna. Then he could simply take the bag and then help Hyre up. But at the critical moment, Hyre stepped away and then the floor creaked. Stepping quickly to the chair, avoiding the boards he'd noted earlier, he grabs it, places it in front of Barna. Grabbing the bag he quickly knots the top closed and clamps his teeth on it. Then he steps on the chair and leaps up.
ooc: use this if when Aelar tries to hold the bag in his teeth he decides its too heavy.
Clamping the bag in his teeth, Aelar realizes it's too heavy for that, grabs it firmly, steps on the chair, and leaps up.
Athletics: 7 Does the chair lower the athletics DC?

Hyre/Aelar:
(That's with the chair helping out, but she still gets a grapple action)
Barna's athletics check: 16
Aelar doesn't quite manage to make it to Barna's shoulder, but she grabs him with her legs and holds on tight. There's no time for embarrassment as she grits her teeth and, orcish muscles bulging under her skin, arches her hips to lift Aelar up enough that he can grab her around the neck. Her arms are trembling. This is taking all she's got. She then pulls herself up so Aelar can climb off her and up to the roof.
Meanwhile, Hyre can hear someone fumbling with the ladder below him.
gang member's athletics check: (-5 for inebriation) :9
(Oh man, bet you've never been so glad to see a 1!)
The gang member, too drunk to set up a ladder properly, falls off it and smacks himself with it as he falls.
"Fuuuck!" he laughs, rubbing his face. "Neer beensho washted..."
DM, professional illustrator and comic artist, suffering from severe spinal stenosis, married, middle aged, and nerdy.
Aelar carefully climbs onto the roof and carefully sets the bag to the side, being sure it won't roll off the roof, either back into the hole or to the ground. Then he turns back to the hole, and holds himself in readiness to help Hyre climb back up.
ooc: Ready to help either Hyre or Barna as applicable.
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
Hyre/Aelar:
(Hyre gains advantage to grab onto Barna, if that's what he wants to do. Aelar will add advantage to climbing out.)
Barna resets for Hyre, breathing heavily. Lifting Aelar in such a way took all her strength, but she readies herself to catch Hyre all the same, a look of fierce determination on her face.
With a 'thunk' the ladder is set up again against the floor of the loft. Hyre needs to make a decision. The gang members who are awake are wandering over to the one who's trying to climb to the loft, mostly laughing at his clumsiness.

ooc: are there any rocks on the top of the roof?
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
He straps the purse with the egg to himself, leaving both hands free. He sees tired Barna waiting to hold catch him and Aelar waiting to help him up. He takes one step back (CREEEEAKK) and then runs forward, jumping up to Barna.
(I admit I didn't quite understand what decision Hyre has to make unless you expect him to go down the ladder and fight the gang members. I guess he could do that, but not this time.)
So advantage on the Athletics check? 15

(Only thing on the roof is moss, it's too angled for other debris to stay put on it. The only other thing he's got to use is the loot itself.)

ooc: That won't work but thanks.

Hyre/Aelar
(Not fight them, jump off the loft and just book it, leading them away, but that would require an athletics check to land without hurting himself and then another one to outrun his pursuers)
Hyre manages to get his arms around Barna's neck in one go and she pulls herself up to the point Hyre can reach Aelar, who helps him get up and onto the roof.
As an exhausted Barna lifts herself up, the two see the wood of the plank she's holding onto warp... and splinter. Barna doesn't even have time to gasp.
(Reflex check, if you want to grab on to her, both of you. (use DEX modifiers) )

Hyre attempts to catch her. After helping them this way, even if she lied to them at the beginning... He must succeed.
