If Balgrim is MIA, what should we do going forward? - Single Choice
Shall we seek a 6th party member? - Single Choice
The group is now before the Horseshoe saloon. Thankfully, the bag of gold is pretty small and the five don't really stand out too much on the street. Just a bunch of kids out on the town.
At this point, the sun has gone down and the group is definitely hungry. The smells coming from the saloon (now that they actually have time to take it in and not under the influence of incense) are quite appetizing, and the sound of feet stomping and hands clapping can be heard through the doors. Part of the reason for the name, it seems, is because of the unique shape of the saloon's structure.
The entryway curves inward like a horseshoe, mainly because there seems to be a 'life rail' junction right in front of the doorway, marked by a dwarfish seal on a large circular stone cover. There's actually 3 levels to the building that acts like the very corner of the street, with other stores and places of business densely packed in together down the way with the saloon as the 'head'. Likely the owner had the building altered to stay where it was and let the city build around it. It seems like the Satyr triplets are finishing up a song inside. It's not the performance they were giving on the street corner before, it's far more contemporary folk music.

Aelar notices that there's four members of the watch... or at least, people wearing their uniforms and armour... hanging about on the opposite street corner in a way that doesn't really feel like they're watching for trouble. They seem more like hoodlums waiting for an excuse to harass someone. Some tough-looking street goon approaches the group and talks to them. Nothing else happens, but the goon stays on the corner while the four move off down the street. Just another reminder of how important it is for the group to have a proper roof over their heads.

Aelar eyes the goon and the four who walk away with cold intensity, ready for anything. With a sharp hiss and jerk of his head he brings the thugs to his friends' attention. "I think we should find ourselves an inn or at least a decent tavern with some rooms, and quickly. The people I helped Sister Daar treat were all beaten because they were homeless, or at least were picked on for that reason. I wonder if this sort of animosity comes those rich people in Hawk's Nest. The histories I read today suggest it's possible." He says this quietly enough that only his friends can hear him. For all he knows, these goons were part of the group that beat up those poor people he helped.
ooc: Does this count as a Perception success?

((Oh yes. Aelar and Lazlo both see the four watchmen.))

Kallista nods, "Ya... not sure if this would be a place to look?"

Lazlo nods in agreement to Aelar and Kallista. "Whatever scheme they're running- they're far from home. Those constables aren't from this district. I saw those capes on guards in the rich part of town..."

"Nothing we can do about it. Let's just try not to attract too much attention to ourselves. No one knows we're homeless yet." He whispers in response. "Well," Hyre continues in a normal voice, "which of the three is the acclaimed lady Carmine you kept telling me about?"

OOC: yay! That’s his third!
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
"Um, Carmine is the one with the, erm- lady bits... and her brothers are Carmen and Cameron. Let's head inside, probably better if we're off the streets."

"Carmine, Carmen and Cameron?" Hyre asks as he walks in, "Couldn't they find names that are easier to distinguish? Imagine we'd call ourselves Hyre, Hyra, Hyro, Hyri Hyru and Hyry; people would get confused all the time!"

Ooc: lol growing up there were two brothers in my neighborhood whose names were Primo and Segundo.

Ooc: we have one more night at the farm, I believe?

Aelar shakes his head as he watches the performance. "No, we have one more night at the farm and we should take it. Tomorrow, I think you and Leon, since you don't work at the farm, should ask your bosses for suggestions. I'll ask the farmers and we can ask Lazlo's friends tonight. Since there are six of us, we don't have that much money and I think we should choose as carefully as possible. What do you all think?"
Turning to Lazlo, he asks, "Would they mind, or you, if I joined in?"

Ooc: on my phone so I can’t use green font!
”I’m pretty sure they’d love it!”

((Not just yet, that was a group perception check. Don't worry! Another chance will come by soon enough! Don't forget, you've got a covert op coming up.))
((Eeep! Durn it, didn't know you were posting XD I'll edit.))
Inside the Horseshoe, the group can tell that this is an establishment with character and has been here for a very long time. The floors are aged but still polished, marked over the years by ancient scuff marks from countless brawls, parties, and scores of town watchmen coming in for a drink after a long shift. It seems that this establishment was first constructed when the knight's garrison was an integral part of the town's defenses. There are heirlooms lining the walls from days long past, including a wall dedicated to knights--and their horses--who fell in battle, horses on the left, knights on the right, and those who died with their steeds in the middle, marked with horseshoes and sword hilts, respectively, in a fine lacquered wooden frame. There's quite a lot of them. Leon is drawn to the wall.
The bar is crowded without a place to sit, so a waitress greets the party and seats them at an empty table. The tables here have seen better days, but they're clean and sport a rustic look, probably old wagon wheels converted into tables that the owner got cheap and can't bring herself to part with. The patrons are all working-class people, covered in soot or smelling of tar and farm work, but happy enough to just sit on some stools and drink and listen to music.
When the satyrs see the group enter from the stage, Carmine waves at Lazlo enthusiastically and the tavern owner recognizes Lazlo too.
"Well, if it isn't the boy who broke my heart the other day! Come back for another guest performance? I certainly wouldn't mind, it'd get the tips flowin' again from these sad tightwads!" she says. Lazlo doesn't quite remember the owner being so huge, OR being a centaur. Maybe he just didn't see her from out behind the bar.
Well, so much for not standing out! If Aelar wants to join in the performance, Lazlo can aid him, giving him advantage to his performance roll since he has full proficiency in it now.
