"Och, aye," Hurmfar begins. "Caithwaite clearly just wants a scapegoat so he can claim power here. Now I don't mind stirring the pot to get a good laugh but I'm not keen on hanging an innocent. His nibs will get an answer when we're certain. That may set him raging but so be it."
The journey back to town is just as quick, Henk seemingly on the mend from his first night of enjoying the rustic hospitality of Felderwin. That's soon challenged however, as the halfling Reece rushes over as soon as he sees Henk's coach pull up in front of the tavern.
"Sire, I have a message from your employer." He hands Henk an envelope and the half-orc reads it, pales and sways a bit and looks at all of you.
"Sorry, guys. The boss needs me. Got a right bollicking, I did. I'm needed to pick him up at Sunset Hall. They...uh, they can't find the starosta and Mr. Cathwaite is hopping mad. He said to say he'll see you all at seven tonight. I got to go."
With a quick wave, the half-orc deposits you all in front of the Hearth and Plough. Erbert, from your perch in the alleyway, you notice the others stepping off of the coach and you reunite with the rest of your party.
At the moment, its close to noon, and you have about seven hours until your scheduled discussion with Senior Agronomist Cathwaite. The rest of the day is yours.
Erbert keeps his eye on the direction of the halfling that he was following, after Henk takes off he says "Follow me and let's talk. I think we need to pay the Starosta a visit." Erbert relays the contents of the letter, implying that the Locksmiths had nothing to do with the fires, Selencha is a member of that society, but she and Deke appear to be in the clear from the main concern of who is setting fires.
He relates the story of the halfling that we have been looking for (or matches the description), turning around road signs and carrying a suspicious bindle toward the Starosta's house. "We need to find out what is going on there. I believe he was holding a good bit back in our first meeting. After that, we may want to take a second crack at the Golden Lure. I feel like we need to know what was in that back room. How did you make out at the Stump farm? Any sign of Quentin? It is curious that the letter was signed by "Q", but seemed to be coming from someone out of town."
Erbert hurries after the halfling, not wanting to lose them and says "7 pm! We are truly pressed for time, we must hurry now."
"Evidently, Hurmfar... You want some jerkey? "Owin says as he holds out a large chunk of dried jerkey towards him.
"If we're heading towards the Starosta's , let's get moving, yeah? The quicker we figure out what's the deal there, the sooner we can figure out what's happening at the Golden Lure. Unless ... we shouldn't split, should we?"
“Nope, let’s stay together this time. I want to follow this halfling, I think she is headed to the Starosta’s house.” Erbert hurries along and urges his companions to come with. He tries to handle communication via message in order to stay quiet.
“This here halfling sounds more of a right wee shite disturber than a real threat,” Hurmfar says as he gratefully takes the offered jerky from Owin and begins gnawing away on it.
”But if she’s been sneaking about there’s a good chance she’s seen something. Lead on.”

Erbert turns to look at Hurmfar and says "I don't even know what you said. Let's track them down." He smiles to himself and walks along, much closer to the ground than Hurmfar, able to hopefully see some prints.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
With the entire team looking for signs of the halfling traveler, Erbert soon finds something strange in the fields lining the main path towards the abandoned Wesprem place. You see beans, one of the hardiest vegetables, and one of the few to be grown as late in the season as these, line the fields close to you. But slowly, you start noticing something strange. Where the vast majority of the beans look their typical yellowish-green color, here and there, there are one or two beans that don't match up. They are shaped like the other beans, but they each have vastly different colors. There are purples, and light blues, and oranges and reds, even a few with pink and maroon colored spots all over them.
As you walk further along, you notice more and more beans painted in increasingly exotic colors. you hear a conversation somewhere further in the fields. "I know, but they're so pretty. I wish I could paint all of them..."
There is a pause, and then.
"No, you're right. Random is better. Heheheheheheh....this is going to be so epic. I wish I could be there to see their stupid farmer faces...."
Hurmfar shakes his head at the voice. From what Erbert said earlier about the halfling messing with the sign post in the village, this random painting of beans seems to be more harmless mischief. This is not the work of an arsonist he thinks to himself.
He waits for Erbert and Noachi to finish with their sneaking around. Once they've positioned themselves on either side of whomever is talking to the beans, Hurmfar will walk up in a more direct manner.
Owins eyebrows raise with the rainbow beans... then he hears the voices. Watching Erbert and Noachi sneak off, he keeps an eye in the direction the voices are coming from.
Staying back, he knocks and arrow in his longbow and holds it down, just in case their sneaky flush works... To Hurmfar, Owin leans over and says in a whisper "I'll wager 10 copper it's just some youth from town, having the piss at the farmers. These events are coming across more and more like "play" than arson to me... "
Still, he keeps a wary eye on the direction of the voices... Holding his attack ready
Erbert sneaks forward and gets into position, sees if he can see where the voices are coming from and what they are doing... (he also sends a message to Hurmfar saying "You're right, these may just be idiots playing a joke. A joke that could get them killed..."

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Owin, Noachi, and Erbert, you all see a female halfling about twenty feet into the field you're standing adjacent to, her face smeared with dirt, wearing comfortable traveling clothes. You hear her chatting amiably as she paints another bean, this time a pretty lavender color. There does not, however seem to be anyone with her. Nevertheless, her conversation continues.
"Shame folks is so jumpy here. There's a lot of people here who might really take to you, ya know? I mean, when I first found out about you, I thought, what a cool guy! There's a God I can get behind.Folks is ready for a God that will talk back to....eh?"
She straightens up and looks around...

"Hullo, dearie! You and yer gnome friend can come over along wit' the rest o' you. We don't bite. Thought I had covered my tracks, I did, but he told me you lot were comin'. The cheeky sod would know that, wouldn't he, though, being an all-powerful god an' all?" She shakes her head good-naturedly.
"Come on, then. No use getting caught for my little japes without some sort of reaction. Whaddya think? Pretty clever huh?"
He looks around at everyone.
"Back to town then?"

Hurmfar slogs through the mud and then looks skyward giving the dark clouds an evil eye.
"Muamman Duathal, you can take your dreich day and shove it up your arse," Hurmfar shouts. "This halfling better be worth it."
