Seeing the strange water creature's twin grow in the distance, Auger summons the deathly red dragonfly from the spilt bile and sends it inexorably into the second creature.
Current round
Thinking on his water-oriented powers Auger whispers to his God in prayer, "Lead me Piya O my God. This unholy thing exists in defiance of you. I trust in thee. Let me not be ashamed, let not my enemy triumph over me."Summoning his energies from the Sea of Stars, using the powers granted him by the Dowager, Auger directs another pair of blasts into the giant water elemental.
Py: Stays put and watches invisibly.
Status: Still concentrating on Hex, which gives the second EL disadvantage on STR-based skill use.

(Varielky was unconscious, yes.)
Varielky coughs out the water as her consciousness returns to her. These watery creatures were not easy to deal with, and she knows she might fall to a single attack again. Nevertheless, grabbing her sword as she struggles to get the water out of her lungs and stand back up, Varielky calls in Dreyen: ["Odur, may you guide my sword, and with the heat of the sun, evaporate these waters off this world!"] As she calls that, her eyes flash with light once again, and she swings her sword at the water twice.
BA: Cast Light through the Dreyen sword. Action: Attack EL twice. The first time that hits will also use Menacing Attack manoeuvre, dealing an extra 6 damage and forcing EL to make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 15) or be frightened of Varielky until the end of her next turn. Attack: 29 Damage: 11. Attack: 29 Damage: 16.
Ednyss swings at the last remaining Will’o’Wisp, but the tiny bobbing point of light zigs and zags, evading his forceful attack.
Auger continues his barrage against the Elemental, striking it with two more eldritch beams of power. The image of Piya in her floral garlands and shimmering blue eyes seems to float above and behind him as he invokes her name and channels vast energies into the evil extra-planar elemental being towering before Varielky
Varielky’s life force dims, then shines again, and, leaping up from the soiled stone floor, calling the red-steel blade which had clattered to the ground several feet away, the shield-maiden slices off two shimmering pods of dark water from the creature, which splash away as the elemental shudders. The fighter’s voice shatters the deathly silence in the chamber and booms with heroic courage at the deathly creature. It hears her and learns a new emotion: fear! The watery being pulls away, retreats, and transforms into a whooshing fountain which shoots up and back, (OOC: disengage), landing in the second pool, where it seems to disappear from view. (No L.O.S. from farther than 5’ away.)
Benita attacks the tiny floating candlelight but can’t connect. Will’o’Wisp #8 disappears.
The map is unchanged from the prior round, except there are now no enemies in sight.
Varielky uses this chance to move back towards the others until she can see them in the light. "These waters hurt. A lot." She nods towards Ednyss in silent gratitude for saving her once again. "May I suggest we stay away from the fountains? I didn't see those things detaching themselves from them, so perhaps they won't be able to reach us as we push onwards. Our goal is to find the Azhvuv queen as quickly as possible, not fight some guardians made of water."
If the others agree, Varielky will lead the way across the southern (on the map, at least, in case up is not true north), her sword in her hand ready to strike at anything that shows up. (Taking the Ready action to attack any hostile creature that appears within range.)
Auger is at first confused by what has happened. Did the water thing run because of his prayer to Piya? Or perhaps it understood Varielky's words?
When Varielky speaks to the group, Auger nods in agreement, perhaps the water beasts only attach themselves to the fountains. "I think if we proceed as you suggest we will deal with more Wisps but that should be preferable."
Auger proceeds to the spot where Py has been watching and the familiar lands on his shoulder. "Hold a moment Varielky. I want to see what triggers these... things."Auger then reaches into the Sea of Stars and bends light ahead of them (M10). The others see a form appear. It is human-shaped but unmoving, its arms extended to each side, not unlike a scarecrow. Auger waits a moment to see if the room does anything.

The illusion which Auger creates appears at M10. 12 seconds later, the elemental rushes to overwhelm it. Sensing no life force in the illusory form, the watery creature dashes back to the second pool and is behind cover once again. (OOC: Auger has witnessed Varielky’s menacing attack maneuver before. Re: Piya, Sometimes the gods pay attention, their image is pulled into existence, in response to their devotees’ calls, actions, or needs.)
Auger turns to the others, "Its possible I can distract it again like that but I sense if we attempt to move quickly we will arouse at least this water thing again, and possibly this room has more to offer. Shall we fight through or attempt to draw them away in some fashion?"

Auger quietly says, "Lets move through here and to the stairs down as quickly as we can."
Auger steps forward and again casts an illusory form. This time it might have been Benita, with a shield up and sword at the ready. Then he moves forward along the southern wall, hoping the distraction would work and that the others will follow.

Ednyss rushes forward as well. But instead of readying his War Pick, he prepares to summon a deathly toll to follow up Varielky's attack.
Move: 25 Feet farther along
Action: Readying the Casting ofToll the Dead (Trigger: After Varielky attacks or an enemy becomes visible) Any Potential Enemy must make a DC 17 Wisdom Saving Throw or take 10 Necrotic Damage.
Varielky takes the lead, shield and sword raised, and Benita, her jaw firmly set, steps up to join her.
Ednyss follows, shifting his spiritual weapon to a defensive positioning, readying his spell.
The Elemental notices the illusion before it notices you, and takes the bait once more. It rushes out of the pool, a 10’ high breaker of fetid water, and buffets the illusion twice with heavy, crashing waves before it realizes there is nothing there.
Ednyss’ deathly tolling sends a ripple through the watery being. It turns and sees its real opponents filing past against the south wall.
Varielky's readied action is not triggered this round.
Varielky keeps walking forward. She could hear the water, but unable to see it, she is on edge. She can only trust Auger and Ednyss to deal with it themselves, while readying her sword in case the creature engages.
Action: Ready an attack against the first hostile creature that comes within 5' of her.
Reaction: Rolling the readied attack in advance, ignore if not triggered. Attack: 26 Damage: 15.

Round 9 Results
Auger creates the image of a “fiery being,” which we’ll say looks like a ferociously flaming person and keeps moving, 30’, to P10 (S10 is out of range). Py flies ahead, invisible.
Varielky continues on, her eyes alert to danger, an attack readied.
Ednyss repeats his action from the prior round, readying toll the dead, moving forward 25’ and keeping his spectral shield at the ready. (Botted)
Benita follows Varielky’s lead, readying an attack.
Auger’s illusion succeeds in attracting not only the elemental’s attention. A Will’o’wisp materializes beside it, and flies through it, discharging an electrical attack into the now-faint image.
The Elemental now recognizes the image is an illusion, and turns to your party, closing on Ednyss, whom it attacks, with crashing waves, but the war cleric stands his ground and takes no damage. Then the elemental surges forward to drown him in its murky quivering waters. The dwarf fails his save, takes 12 bludgeoning damage, and is grappled (escape DC 14). Until this grapple ends, he is restrained and unable to breathe. If the saving throw is successful, the target is pushed out of the elemental's space in a random direction.)
Ednyss’ spell is triggered and the elemental takes 6HP damage.
‘Master!,’ sends Py to Auger. Turning from his illusion, Auger sees, and Varielky does too, a third elemental rising from the third pool. It bubbles up from its circular confines, then roars forward, its dark waters frothing, and a heavy breaker slams over Varielky and Auger, deflected by Varielky’s shield, but hitting Auger with full force for 17HP.
Varielky’s readied attack is triggered, and her red-steel blade slashes at the extra-planar being, doing 10HP damage, and dismembering a pod of dirty water which splashes to the ground, inert.
(Before continuing: does Varielky use her last battle maneuver on this attack?)
(Hmm... that's tempting, but I'll pass the offer. Hopefully not a grave mistake. Also, it won't change my decision so you can include the answer with your next post, but which elemental triggered the attack? I read it as the third one, but perhaps I'm wrong and this is the second? The second acts first, it seems, but I suppose he doesn't have to get in Varielky's range to reach Ednyss.)

Round 9 (cont’d.)
Despite Varielky’s skillful attack, Elemental #3 (OOC: completes its turn:) surges forward to attempt to drown the shield-maiden and Benita in its fetid embrace.
Benita’s attack is triggered by Elemental 3’s proximity, and she slices at it, doing 7HP damage.
Both Varielky and Benita fail their STR saves versus the Elemental’s “whelming” attack, and take 14 bludgeoning damage, and are grappled (escape DC 14). (OOC: Until this grapple ends, they are restrained and unable to breathe. If the saving throw is successful, the target is pushed out of the elemental's space in a random direction - roll 1d8, with 1= north, 2=northeast, etc.).
