(OOC - just adding to Nephris' turn before, with the fire elemental going down...)
Turning to the charging statue, Nephris thinks a moment, tilting his head then shrugs, "What can it hurt?" he says to no one in particular as he whistles a little tune and moves the hex to the stone statue (bonus action).

Katharine blasts away at the stone statue. However, her aim is off, and she misses on all but one blast. However, the swing of her blade is accurate as she strikes it with her longsword.

Best is able to withstand all attacks (AC 22) he will move into a position that is not next to an enemy but includes the most possible enemies in his aura of protection. If this results in an attack of opportunity that is ok. He will then attack statues with his eldritch beams, starting with the one that attacked him and if the statue falls Best will move to the next one. If any are still standing after his attacks he will use his bonus action to cast spiritual weapon with a second level spell slot.
Seeing Cade lying there on the ground defeated, Dresden decides that the halfling is no longer worth his effort. Instead he decides to grab Cade by the leg and drag him to a window on the other side of the tower. He then lifts cade up to the window and pushes up against.
"I have decided that you are not worth any more effort. I believe that you have learnt your lesson, and I need to make sure that I have arcane magic reserved for later."
He then pushes Cade up and through the window. And suddenly Cade is frozen has he falls the eighty feet from the eighth floor of the tower.
(35 bludgeoning damage)

With the onslaught of attacks dealt on the statues the crumble to dust sucummbing to the damage. It is uncertain whether the stone statues were ever actually alive, but as they move they attempt to fight for survival. But their efforts are in vain as they waste away.
Once the stone statues are gone, everything seems still after the sudden ambush. No more fire elementals are in sight, no more statues, and no more plates flying around.
Despite this there is sense of energy in the air, as if the air itself if filled with arcane forces.

Feeling the static in the air and having just had several mundane objects come to life, Nephris looks to the others, "Give me a few minutes to cast Detect Magic. I'm not sure if you have the feeling, but I'm sensing there's more magic here somewhere and I'd rather it not jump out at us. On another note though, it seems Cade has stopped battling upstairs..." Nephris scratches his chin, "Whether this is good or bad news, I'm not sure though." And if there are no objections, he sets about ritually casting his spell and looking around the room while the others take stock, and then checking the rooms as we move forward.

Katharine takes a moment to extinguish the fire and then looks around the room, "I think you might be right Nephris, I certainly sense something in the air as well. But I will let you cast Detect Magic this time. I'm going to go check this door."
Whilst Nephris begins the ritual, Katharine investigates the door to discover a note posted to the door. The note is open and can be read without opening it.
The note reads;
“Dear B, I’m only one move away from winning. - W.”
After reading the note, it is at the moment that Cade enters in through the main entrance doors to the tower.
Upon completing the ritual, Nephris sees an aura of evocation magic around the chessboard.

Nephris looks around the room, once more to double check, then points to the chessboard, "Interesting item to enchant with magics, especially evocation. Might I suggest that no one touches it, for safety's sake." Nephris looks up as Cade enters, "So good to see you again, friend. I was a little concerned when you didn't return quickly. Are you alright? You look as though you've been through a bit."
Cade transforms back into his halfling form, giving the others a nod in greeting. "well there is a red dragon up there, who I had a bit of a tussle with. His master, the evil wizard, got involved though, and nearly took me out. Luckily he had to get back to what we came to stop him from doing, so didn't see me as enough of a threat to truly finish off." He glances around. "I saw some stairs, that lead up and down, so I assume there should be steps around here that lead upwards."

(He just has to walk around the tower to the doors)
