I also took the lizardfolk and the captain off the map as the doors are now shut and you don't know where they are.
You may or may not get surprise on the captain, depending on how you proceed with that, where he is in the room, etc. We will see how that all goes down.
Alright, a few moments after you're done and maybe when you're planning the hit on the captain, you hear a man say from the cargo hold "Hey! Bill!? Ted? Why is it dark down here? You guys done yet? Dafaq's on the hatch?"
So, this person has come out of a room in the cargo hatch. He notices that the cargo room is dark (if the lantern is back on, he still comes out and asks about the hatch), and is calling out for Bill and Ted. No mention of Tango or Cash. He doesn't see you or anything. He's just calling out, and he can notice that the hatch is blocked. There's light coming from his quarters which is how he can see in the dark cargo hold.
((you completely cleaned the kill mess, right? With magic? Just making sure))
What will you do? You can't see the person calling out yet. You just know he's in the cargo hold.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((Light would have been back on in the hold and everything was magically cleaned.))
He would go over and say,
"Huh? Oh sorry about that, looks like one of the new guys was stacking stuff on top of the hatch. Dumb fork. Hold up I'll move it."
He signals the others to get ready to jump this guy as soon as he opens the hatch and begins moving things off the hatch to clear it and positions himself to be what the person sees as they come up the stairs,
"Tango, move that over there. Okay cleared it, come on up."
Once they are up he will give a wave and then shoot them in the face, given everyone else is ready to jump him.
((Initiative: 10
Crossbow: Attack: 10 Damage: 7
@Spider, I think you probably still have that bardic inspiration. Has it been longer than 10 minutes since we killed Tango and Cash?))
Korrik will wait until the guy is fully up in case he has someone else with him, positioning himself away from where the guy will be facing coming up the stairs.
He still comes out, and up, wondering why the barrel is on the hatch, asking if you're almost done, etc. etc. He mumbles to himself forking new guys and then responds to Bent "Arrrr, ok good. I know I can always count on you, Ted. Ok, I'm coming up. So, yeah, you boys almost done? Helluva card game 'bout to start in the..."and then that's when he reaches the top of the stairs and combat starts.
He's surprised for round 1.
I'm not going to do Ess's attack even though he's ahead in initiative. He was fumbling with his bow and you guys took care of this guy. Just to save time.
Korrik gets the jump first. The guy comes up (I've added him to the bestiary tab, 'Smuggler Pirate X') and immediately takes a staff to the head. CRACK! Followed by Korrik's foot to his face. That hits because of the inspiration.
Ben, your crossbow bolt hits him, not in the face but in the shoulder as he's turning around in pain from Korrik's attacks.
Then Ash jumps him from behind, maybe easing the dagger quickly but gently into his neck silently, killing him. His limp body slumps down on to the ground at the top of the stairs.
He's toast.
Maps are updated.
Will you also dump this guy's body? Ess would eagerly help so he feels kind of helpful.
This pirate looks different then Bill/Ted/Tango/Cash/Crow's nest dudes, he looks different, perhaps an officer or something. Oh, and he stereotypically has a hook on one end of his arm.
Ben will quickly clear up the blood with prestidigation and say,
"Let's move on the captain, before more show up."
((unless someone strongly disagrees))
He will move over to the door and, waiting for the rest to arrive will test to see if the door is locked. If it is he'll knock again and wait for the captain to answer, stepping back to let Ash and Kay jump him while he waits for a clear shot. If the door is unlocked he will wave Ash and Kay forward to attack the captain and take crossbow shot himself, stepping inside with Ess and closing the door behind them.
Ok, the door is unlocked. If you guys are going in and then shutting the door, I think we need stealth checks to see if the captain sees/hears the door open, to determine if he is surprised when you bolt in.
((If we are within an hour from when we set out in the boat, then yes. If we're getting up on the end of it, Korrik would let the others know so we can accelerate our time table if we want to be able to keep using it!))

((I would say it hasn't, so yeah the inspiration is still active!))
Yep let's get initiative rolls and desired plays from all.
Since this dude doesn't notice any type of threat before the moment of combat starts, he will be surprised in round 1.
I will update the map and tell you what this guy looks like and respond with RP properly when he comes up ASAP in a new post.

Ash waits until the guy comes up on deck the springs him from behind…
Attack action: Attack: 18 Damage: 8 (piercing damage)
Bonus attack: Attack: 10 Damage: 5 (piercing damage)
…if either hit (since Korrik is already in melee) add 4 sneak attack damage.

What's next?
Korrik will help frisk him before Ess dumps the body of the tough smuggler. ((Investigation: 18))
"What's the move now Ben?"

Korrik, on the smuggler, you find studded leather, a light hammer and a small vanilla-looking key.
"Fish food" Ess mumbles as he helps dump the body minus anything you guys took from it.
Ben will quickly clear up the blood with prestidigation and say,

((I’m guessing we don’t bother with shutting the door and just open it, rush in, and attack)).
Ash sneaks in and attacks with the butt of her daggers aiming to subdue! ((using the same initiative I assume?))…
Stealth check: 20
Attack action (non-lethal): Attack: 18 Damage: 7
Bonus attack (non-lethal): Attack: 20 Damage: 3

ASH OF THE FIRE - Tabaxi Rogue - Ghosts of Marshswamp LIA STARBORN - Aasimar Bard - Out of the Abyss
Let's get fresh initiatives. It took time to dump the most recent body. Different opponent, etc. etc.
If the first one in passes the stealth check, then we can assume the guy will be surprised since all will be able to subsequently rush in the room.
That stealth check passes.
Have at it.
Ash’s new initiative: 7
((we all still have pass without a trace dont we for stealth?))

Actually.. i think that stealth check was a misroll?!
16 still passes given where the captain is in the room.

Ash has +7 to stealth… but don’t we all also get +10 from an hour of pass without trace? Or have I made a mistake?
Stealth rolls with +17 are always going to be great ;-)
