Ash, your crossbow bolt slices through the air making no sound until it hits the snake. At that point, the bolt makes a very faint thud sound as it completely enters the snakes body, close to its head and it goes right through the animal, causing instant blood spray and the giant beast just starts to shake about trying to figure out what happened. Ash, you also hide (24) after the shot before anything happens and so if/when any of the creatures actually looks your way, you will be unseen and will have those same unseen advantages for next turn.
Bimz will follow Ben's initial instructions and remain hidden in the illusion spell above Ash.
Korrik, your arrow flies true and also sticks the snake. It doesn't completely pass through the creature like Ash's bolt did, but it goes about halfway in and the snake writhers when this happens.
Ben, your bolt slams into the snake after Korrik's arrow. The snake is feeling pain everywhere now and is panicking.
The snakes are surprised this round and do not act. More specifically, the west snake isn't even aware of anything yet.
Aryte tries to hide in some bushes. I am not adding the disadvantage for this stealth check because of Aryte's armor because that just doesn't make sense. A little armor clanking isn't going to make a huge deal in this moment with where she is. It's not like we're in a hallway or something trying to enter a room. Stealth: 10. And she fails, the snake will see her.
Ess then takes his shot, and his arrow hits the snake in the tail (lol).
Thousand Teeth is surprised this round and does not act although might be aware that the snake to its right is starting to writher around like a mofo in that tree.
Ok, Ash is unseen because she is successfully hidden. The snake could not move during round 1 due to surprise, but it could still see, and I feel with the volley of projectiles coming at it and penetrating it that it would've frantically looked around as it was wriggling around in pain and can see where the projectiles came from. Since Ash used her bonus action to hide, she is still unseen, but everyone else is seen (**by the east snake only) for the next shots if applicable. Aryte's stealth check isn't high enough and will be seen.
Ash is up! Korrik and Ben could also go ahead and make their moves and I'll process accordingly.
Ash is unseen, Ben and Korrik are not. (unless they were to attack the west snake or the croc)
Ash, this time the bolt doesn't exit the snake's body but it completely enters it as it continues to writher in pain. You're also able to hide again successfully and will be unseen by any of the creatures should they look this way. Unseen advantages for next round.
<yes yes>Bimz responds to Ben.
Korrik, your arrow sticks into the tree that the snake is in.
Ben, your crossbow bolt sticks the snake and you can really see the thing starting to slow down as it's bleeding from the numerous puncture marks from all of the projectiles.
The east snake slithers flops out of the tree in a bloody mess and then uses the rest of its turn to dash away as it swims on the surface of the water, trying to escape certain death.
The west snake is now aware of the party (except for Ash), and is aware that the other injured snake is swimming away, but at this time it doesn't do anything. It's senses are alerted because of what is going on, so I think the creature would be on high alert and dodging.
Aryte cannot hide now because all creatures are now aware of the party. She takes no action this round but just points at the fleeing snake, saying quietly to Ess"There. It's swimming away. Finish it."
Ess moves into a position where he has a clear shot at the swimming snake and lets loose an arrow. (dice roller thread). The arrow finds the mark, and the giant snake stops moving in the water and floats slowly and lifelessly away into the larger river towards the north east. Ess pumps his fist when he sees the kill and says "yes" under his breath.
Thousand Teeth, noticing what has happened, quickly lowers it's body into the water and darts southwest into the pool from the island and vanishes from all of your sight.
Ash is up! Everyone else feel free to queue up your turns.
*the croc is underwater. This means that hide attempts could be made. Not for the snake, but for the croc since it can't see you either. Ash is already hidden, of course.
Ash prowls a little closer to the other snake, keeping low and hidden in the tree line and the undergrowth. The party would just see the flick of her tail or the slight rustle of leaves as she goes. They they would see the flash of a bolt, as it streaks towards the giant creature…
**I have added a black line to show exactly where the shoreline is on the new map.
Ash, the remaining snake has no idea of your presence as your crossbow bolt hits it and it starts to writher in pain just like the other one did. The bolt goes right through it's body, and blood starts to spurt upon it's exit. You're able to hide yourself immediately after the bolt is released as well, so the snake still has no idea of your presence. It likely thinks the shot came from one of the other party members that it can see, although it's mainly concerned about the pain that it is in right now.
Bimz holds position as he watches the scene unfold. His eyes narrow and he's ready should his master give him orders. He's happy. He belongs again.
Korrik, you move west of Ben along the shoreline similar to Ash so you can get in range, although the snake sees you. So you are on the shoreline under that tree. You can't seem to get your footing in the loose earth of the marshland and your arrow misses once again. (it was dodging, but the shot missed anyway)
Ben, you need to move along the shoreline similar to the others to be in range which you do. The snake writhers at the last second and your crossbow bolt misses. You then move back the remaining movement that you have, and are positioned a bit behind Korrik.
The snake flops out of the tree (10ft) and then enters the marsh and starts to move towards the shore where the party is located. It does not see Ash. It actually dashes so it will not be dodging the next round. It seems to be coming at you all in an attempt to fight back.
After the snake's turn, Thousand Teeth uses a legendary action. You all see it surface right beside the snake!!! That's it, for now.
Aryte yells out "There!!!" and she dashes as close as she can get to Korrik. She then says to the now visible croc "Come here girl... I'll getcha this time girl."
After Aryte's turn, the croc uses another legendary action and tries to take a bite out of the snake it has just surfaced beside. The thing must be hungry. It clamps its jaws down onto the snake which didn't expect the croc to surface, and the croc bites off a very large chunk of the snake and swallows it whole after a few chews. The water around the giant snake turns a dark red.
Ess then says "Holy FORK!" and he now takes aim at the croc from where he is at. He doesn't move forward. The arrow hits the croc and breaks, causing the beast no damage.
The croc, now on it's actual turn, then takes another bite at the snake, and again it removes another huge chunk of the snake and swallows it. The croc is eating this snake alive. It's withering in the water, a bloody splashy mess. It is still alive though.
Ash is up! Korrik and Ben could also queue their moves along with any updated instructions for Bimz (happy for this to be out of turn - giving the instructions I mean), although there may be some legendary actions from the croc slotted between them. We will see.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ash stays dead still as the snake rushes forward. She forces herself not to flinch, as the crocodile erupts from the water, to chomp down on the snake again and again... While it’s surfaced, and distracted, Ash aims at the croc and fires, once more, from hidden…
((OOC: let me know if I’m cheesing the hide mechanism. Normally wouldn’t, but it seems like pretty dense and rugged terrain. And she has been rolling so well on stealth, narratively it seems to fit)).
((OOC: Bardic inspiration not spent. Thanks though!!))
Ash, your crossbow bolt sticks into the croc. You're not sure if the bolt went through it, but it definitely hurt the animals because it reacts to the pain. You also are able to hide again and you are still unseen from the croc.
As for the continuous hiding: In other circumstances, after the first shot usually I don't like to allow players to hide again as the enemy would see the player come out to shoot, although in each of the shots you've taken and what has been happening with the other players and creatures around as well as the terrain which you mentioned... all of this taken into consideration I think allowing another hide makes sense especially since you nailed the first attempt. However, this will likely change once the croc starts to focus all of its attention on the party, but for now, the hide is good with me.
The croc now uses a legendary action (x2) and bites the snake again, trying to finish it off and eat another big bite so it can then fully focus on the party members that it can see on the shore who it assumes is attacking it. However, Thousand Teeth was too distracted from the pain from Ash's shot that its jaws close just beside the snake, causing it no damage.
Bim listens to his new master. <Yes. Bim come.> I'm going to say he's also unseen, keeping the illusion spell (right?) and so there's no way the croc notices him yet.
Korrik, the first arrow sticks into the croc as it continues to move around in pain. The second arrow shoots harmlessly into the water.
Ben, at first you think the croc is going to freak out with its reaction to your words, but it manages to bring itself together and the words to no harm to it. Ash feels the benefits of your magic though!
The snake (half eaten at this point...) tries to bite the croc back. (It's not going to be able to try and constrict at this point). The snake manages to sink its teeth into the croc and the croc makes a hissing/gurgling sound as the bite seemed to hurt it.
Aryte decides to move up 5 feet and grips her morningstar tightly, ready to attack should the croc (or the snake for that matter) try and get close to shore and in her melee range.
Ess yells back to Ben"You got it. Headshots!"and he looses another arrow from his longbow at the croc. The arrow sticks in close to its head. Ess then says "YEAH. We got this! Look they're gonna kill each other! haha gotta love nature, bros!"
Thousand Teeth tries again to devour and finish off the snake, even more angry now that the serpent was able to bite back. She chomps down and clamps the snakes head in its jaws and bites down, exploding the snakes skull in a bloody mess as the rest of the snakes body starts to sink down and float away. The croc then turns its attention to the party. (Ash is still unseen, but won't be able to hide again at this point if she shoots at the croc again)
Ash is up! Everyone else go ahead and queue turns and I will process accordingly along with any legendary actions the croc takes. Map has been updated.
((OOC: Thanks. Totally agree about the hiding. It’s not something I like to do either (as you know from our previous combats). But yes I think the animals here have been distracted and fighting amongst themselves. I agree that the party is now TT’s main focus, hiding again will probably be impossible. Perfect. Thanks)).
Ash stays still again and reloads. She targets the croc again and let’s fly with one last shot from hidden…
Movement: Ash will try to spread out the party rather than bunch up. Staying on solid ground, she will move south two squares and west two squares if possible.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((In the rogue I'm playing in another game with Rod, I tried to have her move about after hiding so she'd pop out from a new location each time to help preserve a feel like it was a real thing and not just cheesing a gray area. Which I think would be easy to do in these circumstances, with the vegetation and the distractions.))
Korrik sends another two arrows at the croc, going not for the upper part of the head, but the gaping mouth and the softer hide under the lower jaw as it finishes off the snake. He had good luck kicking a croc there previously. Once the two arrows are away, he sets the bow aside and cracks his knuckles, moving up near Aryte, anticipating that melee will be joined shortly.
Ash, the bolt enters the crocs neck and the creature sees you at the last second before the bolt enters (and exits). Blood continues to fill the waters as the croc is taking a lot of damage now, mostly to it's upper body parts. It is pretty big so the main hide is still in good shape even with the giant snake bites. Only further inspection will determine the exact state of it.
At this point, the croc uses a legendary action and lunges forward closer to the shore. It swims closer and triggers Aryte's morningstar attack. She swings hard at the crocs head and cracks the animals skull a bit as the thing is in some serious pain.
Bimz moves 15ft up in the tree, and is hidden. I won't roll as the croc is engaged now with the party on the shore, and given he just slightly moved up a bit out of the illusion, the croc did not see him and so he is unseen.
The croc uses another legendary action and bites Aryte. The lizardfolk yells out in pain as numerous teeth pierce her scale mail.
Korrik, both of the arrows sink deep into the flesh of underneath the croc's jaw. Almost exactly where you were aiming. The croc gurgles and then eventually stops moving and starts to slowly bob up and down. Those arrows are the killing blow.
At this point, combat is over.
Ess starts to head into the water and says over to Korrik"DUDE! Nice shots bro! The thing's dead homeboy!" and then to Aryte"Hey let's get it outta the swamp br.. uhh.. yeah let's just get it outta the swamp!"
And he starts to try and get the croc out of the swamp up on shore, which will be easily done with Aryte's help plus maybe one other person.
Aryte says "YES. It's dead. I shall help pull her ashore. Want me to cut head off? Hand over sword, yes?" and he looks at Ess.
Ess would lend her the long sword and she'd cut the head off. She'd give him his sword back after wiping the blood on a big leaf.
OK! Thousand Teeth is dead. She is pulled up on shore, headless. The hide seems in ok condition except for a few larger snake bites.
The snakes do not have a chance to be recovered. One is floating away by now and the other is eaten and ripped to shreds.
Aryte would eventually say "I will need to rest before we return home if we are not camping here." (she assumes you wouldn't mind camping in the marsh. lol.)
What is next! Let me know if I missed something. If someone else wanted to cut the head off, that's totally fine. Just thought I'd get as much in with this first post back.
"Well done everyone! Same process as usual with the croc, Kay, Ess? Skin it, check it's guts for anything interesting."
((If a roll is needed both Ash and Kay have bardic inspiration still.))
"Bim, if you would be so kind as to locate that snake that was floating away? Let me know when you see it and Ess and I will come and get it. Primarily Ess."
(Let me know if I need any rolls to have Bim find it!))
While this is happening Ben will keep the process clean and neat with prestidigitation while looking forlornly at the destroyed snake skin slowly sinking (and surrounding the snake it held).
Depending on how much time this takes Ben might be okay with camping here, but would prefer to start heading home.

((The illusion was stationary, Bim is visible. I want him to stay 10'-15' up in a tree, if possible. He can probably hide again if there is a tree?))
"It does answer the question about them being in cohoots.Too bad it ruined the hide."
He looks at the croc again and yells the most vile thing he can think of (moving as needed forward then back),
"You're costing me money you imbecile!"
Vicious mockery DC 15:4
He will hum an approving tune for Kay for his good shots.
(D8 of bardic!)
((OK LETS DO THIS!!))
Ess starts to head into the water and says over to Korrik "DUDE! Nice shots bro! The thing's dead homeboy!" and then to Aryte "Hey let's get it outta the swamp br.. uhh.. yeah let's just get it outta the swamp!"
Ben nods,
"Well done everyone!
