"I can't imagine we meet them on overly friendly terms... Shuushar, do you think you could broker a peaceful greeting for us here? If not, then I think it best that we let them pass and try to get as close to the city as we can before we make our intentions known."
Doing his best to whisper; but being relatively far back on the line. "Well, we shouldn't be the first thing they see.. and some of us they likely would inhernetly attack" taking a brief glance at certain allies of the group, "Is it a hunting party; a guard party; or are Bandits a thing for the city/race?"
Shio looks at Shuushar and shrugs, "you're up - gonna talk to your people?"
He doesn't know a lot about tuo-toas but he would say there's a good chance they are not going to welcome outsiders. He has dropped his disguise by now and prompts Shuushar to speak with his people first.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Seeing the group of kuo-toas attack Shuushar, Shio curses under his breath and steps back, hugging the cavern hoping for some cover behind the alcoves. He reaches out and places hex on one of the kuo-toas before following up with a streak of energy.
Zelk whispers an incantation under his breath and pounds his staff against the ground. The staff sends a ripple through the earth that erupts into tangled vines and roots around the Kuo-Tao. Hoping to restrain as many of the Kuo-Tao before the fight begins, Zelk also rushes forward to engage them in combat. As he runs his staff begins to have vines and flowers grow out of it and it eventually elongates into a dangerously looking natural weapon.
Action: Cast Entangle against the Kuo-Tao (Including as many of the Kuo-Tao as possible in a 20 Foot Cube) Any Kuo-Tao affected must succeed on a DC 15 Strength Save - On a failure, the creature is restrained The entire cube is also turned into difficult terrain and requires double movement to pass through
Move: 25 Feet closer to the Kuo-Tao (Distance between Zelk and Kuo-Tao: 35 Feet)
Bonus Action: Cast Shillelagh on Staff You can use Wisdom instead of Strength for attack rolls with the weapon during the duration The weapons damage die becomes a d8 and attack rolls with the weapons are considered magical

Zelk takes a closer look to see if he can identify anything that they are carrying that might help him figure out their functions.

Shuushar walks forward. The others say something in the Kuo-Toa language. When he responds likewise, they attack him. Roll initiative.

(Nope. They have their own language.)
Hearing a dinn but not particlarly able to see, nevertheless the sounds of hostile intention cut through the mystery of the darkness.

Shio goes first!
Is there a map? How far away are the kuo-toas?
They're 60 feet away from the front of the group. I'm going to say theater of the mind for this one.
Seeing the group of kuo-toas attack Shuushar, Shio curses under his breath and steps back, hugging the cavern hoping for some cover behind the alcoves. He reaches out and places hex on one of the kuo-toas before following up with a streak of energy.
Eldritch Blast: Attack: 11 Damage: 14
Hex: Disadvantage on STR checks, 2 necrotic damage if hit.
The eldritch blast fails to connect. One Kuo-Toa, alerted to your presence by the energy, turns toward Shio and hurls a net.

The kuo-toas are 60 feet away, no? How are they throwing a net?
It moved closer. (Actually I'm tired today and forgot nets have a tiny range, but just go with it :) )
