"…Yeah. The right hill has goats."Mia smiles at Red as if she read his mind. "I prefer the hill with animals to the hill without them"
Mia raises her torch to illuminate the rocky slope of the hill. "And we better stick together. The unseen goat user is one thing, the more thing is… I don't know how much I can climb now. I'm not a good climber even when I'm not this tired.I become a burden on my friends"Mia signs and drops her shoulder.
(OOC: if climbing rocky hill requires Athletic check, Mia will use Guidance to boost her ability)
"Sounds like a plan then.. I've got some climbing gear, not much. I wasn't expecting this-but as my teacher always said. Be prepared." Red shows the group his Pitons, as well as hemp rope. Further more, to set a base expectation. Red lights a torch and sticks it into the snowy covered ground behind them. A marker for themselves.
(Red will lead the expepdition if no one else will. But if anyone has climbing they can lead it. The intention with the rope and piton/hammer is to create a stable platform for climbing for Mia's exhausted self in order to more securely be sure she (and others) don't fall to dead dead.)
((Assuming Red will lead the climb and use his gear.))
The hill isn't as steep as to make climbing gear absolutely necessary, but being able to hold on to the rope firmly attached to pitons on the way up sure does help the climb, specially for Mialee. As you ascend, the wind blows heavy against your side, picking up snow from the hill and throwing at you, and even more as the person ahead of you disturbs mounds of snow that slide downwards. Over the next several minutes you are able to make quite a way up the hill, when at times you stop to look around you can guess your group has reached halfway of the height, though when you look back up towards the peak you suddenly hear a loud crack of thunder, a flashing light and a gargantuan explosion of snow falling down from a rocky outcropping near the top. The falling snow and debris from the explosion pile up where it falls and disturbs other mounds of snow, forming other falling 'waves' as it crashes down the hill, quickly picking up size and becoming a rumbling avalanche, carrying rocks, small trees, and everything in its path as it heads your way.
(was the inittive in order to see if we can react? If so. is there anythin like a cave nearby, or is the avalanche too big for us to dodge sideways etc?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Initiative:7)
Mia regains some of her strength thanks to the rope that Red set on the mountain srop. When she heard the roaring sound of avalanche, Mia desperately searches for a shelter that her friends can hide from the raging snow stream.
As Mialee stares with wide open eyes towards the top of the hill, she is able to snap into action in the blink of an eye, though looking around too preoccupied with the safety of her friends, she is able to find little cover aside from the rocky outcroppings they've seen the goats jumping around before. Mialee also clearly notices that Red was also able to react similarly fast, but both Mihris and Vanys took a little too long for their own good, maybe a bit frozen due to the cold or to the paralyzing fear of what's up ahead.
(was the inittive in order to see if we can react? If so. is there anythin like a cave nearby, or is the avalanche too big for us to dodge sideways etc?
((Yes, reaction time. No cover is particularly obvious around this part of the hill, aside from the rocky outcroppings mentioned. I was gonna ask for an Intelligence (Nature or Survival) check, but decided it's easy enough to deduce and I want you to have the information: to avoid the avalanche by running sideways/diagonally, you guess you'd need to move at least 70 ft. before it reaches you at Initiative 10.))
((Mialee and Red can proceed with their actions in any order since they roughly share reaction time before the avalanche can reach the group. Mihris and Vanys are welcome to discuss, but they gotta wait for the avalanche to "act" 😬))
Mia tried to find rocks so that she could turn them into a shelter by her magic. But the roaring sound of the avalanche was too loud and white snow mist blocked her sight. The only shelter she could find was the rocky outcropping at least 70 feet away.
Mia knows that, with her small figure and exhaustion, she won't be able to match the approaching snowslide. And even she chooses to stay with her friends, there is nothing she can do to help them. Furthermore, if she and Mihris are both taken down by the avalanche, there will be no healer in the party. But still, still…
"Miri, I will be back! I will definitely come back to you!" Mia yells to her friend. Biting her lip bleeding hard, the little elf dashing toward the outcropping.
Mia takes off, and Red has the same hesistation she had before determining there wasn't much he could do. Other than to swing the rope, tie it into a knot as he moves-leaving the knot behind as he drags the rope. Crunching on an object, Red's body shimmers for a moment and he vanishes from their sight, moving quickly and rapidly overtaking Mia as he makes distance. The rope slipping form his hands when it spools out-Red grimaces and hope its enough to help them after.
Move 30ft. Bonus Action: Expiditious Retreat for a Dash Action 60ft. Item Interaction. Tiying the knot-which I am hoping allows Mihris and Vanys to snag the rope, Or if they're already holding it, lets them get a firmer grip. So they aren't separated. Action-tossing a Magical Tinker "light orb" that he carries to them. They're pebble sized.. hoping an action is fine to toss it. Goal: Mihris and Vanys are holding the rope; and a glow stone. So we can hopefully find them. The portion of the rope they aren't holding extends the rest of the 50ft in the direction Red moved-but he drops it when it runs out and continues to move to 80ft off to the side.
Note: I am unaware for certain if they were tied to the r ope or holding it. Since it was a rocky climb-not a cliff. I assume we would tied together in case of slipping-as we could catch them. In which case those two at least won't get seperated in the avalance)
((Expeditious Retreat allows you to Dash when you cast the spell, but the spell itself spends your Bonus Action to cast, so you'd have to spend your Action if you wanted to Dash all the 90 ft. Since you lack the Action to actually toss the object, I'll assume you 'let it fall' out of your gear hoping it lands or slides somewhere near enough to your allies. I'm assuming you didn't tie yourselves together, which may probably be good thing, since you'd be now spending actions to untie yourselves before trying to avoid the avalanche.))
((Mialee and Red aren't running towards an outcropping, they're running out of the way of the avalanche altogether. The rocky outcroppings are all around the cliff, and you could use them for cover against the avalanche. None of them are large enough for actual safe protection, but they would certainly help in the saving throws.))
((If any of you want you can still edit your actions 🙂 I'll come back tomorrow and move things along, since I got a nasty headache right now.))
( the spell states when you cast it you also get the move, and then after that on each turn you can dash again. So you get a free dashing with the casting. Unless I'm reading that wrong? " When you cast this spell, and then as a bonus action on each of your turns until the spell ends, you can take the Dash action." As for the outcropping- There are no outcroppings near Mihris and Vanys that red could get them near. Not with one action.. so I'll stick with running away)
The rumbling cacophony draws close as it makes its way down the hill, its white form breaking against the many rocks and mixing in with debris as it comes, Mialee cries out to her friends while darting out and Red imbues himself with arcane power to make it far out of reach of the avalanche. As it finally barrels down upon you, the snow wave glistens against the meek sunlight almost in slow motion right before crashing down upon helpless Mihris and Vanys, who disappear in an instant against a sea of snow and debris.
Mihris and Vanys: Please roll Strength saving throws. Avalanche damage: 1 bludgeoning. If you succeed, you take half damage and manage to stand your ground against the avalanche, somehow digging yourself up as the snow tries to cover you. If you fail, you are knocked prone, restrained, blinded, have total cover, and may attempt to dig yourself out by spending your Action to make an Athletics check on your turn, or try something else.
((@Zwordsman: You do get a "free dash" with the casting, but you spend your Bonus Action to actually Cast the Spell, so you don't have your Bonus Action anymore to Dash again on that turn. So you move 30 ft. automatically (as the spell grants you that) with the casting, then you spend your Movement to move another 30 ft. If you wanted to to move more than this total of 60 ft. in this turn, you'd have to spend your remaining Action to Dash again.))
Mihris braces and stands her ground against the incoming wave of snow and debris, and with a mix of luck and resolve, she is able to shrug off most of the force, her armor protecting her against the bouncing rocks while she is pushed 15 ft. backwards down hill, but is able to stay on her feet.
((Mihris takes no damage (0.5 rounded down). You may act normally, consider all the terrain as difficult terrain unless you're wearing snowshoes. Let's see how Vanys takes on the Avalanche.))
