Red has little to offer but providing warmth. As well as offering to mark their passages with Torches, or small orbs of light. To act as a method to prevent the group from ever losing the path or going in circles.
(I have create bonfire to warm us here and there. Other than that just torches, pitons, and Magical Tinkering. If possible I'd love to give one of the Survival rolls Advantage due to Red's method of preventing us from getting lost. He's basically attempting to replace the stars for positioning as we can't see them due to the weather._ Preference to give it to whoever ends up rolling with Guidance or has a decent modifier. but not sure if thats metagamy~
((We're doing 3 group checks, so everyone is rolling three times. Let's say the first one might be at Advantage due to Red's torch back at the top of the first hill, but it would be out of sight for the following checks.))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Oh I think I misunderstood. I thought it was "3 total checks" rolled by whomever. But do you mean "3 rolls per player" ? I'll roll 3 times, if I'm still misunderstanding ignore the rolls as accurate.

"Yeah. Some clerics can use druid arts too. Like the priestess of Chauntea. Maybe there are other casters who can use our magic too " Mia nods to the sorcerer's. "But our opponent used Animal Messenger to drive us away, then Thunder Wave to cause the avalanche. So I assume they are skilled nature caster and we better prepare for it. When you fight with a big bad druid. The first spell you should be caution about is Entangle. It makes a 20-foot square mini jungle of weeds and vines. Everyone entering the area will be restrained by those plants. It's also my strongest spell too. To counter this spell, we need to maintain space between us, more than 20 feet so that the spell can get us all" Mia uses magic to sharpen her sence as she track down the footprints.
((Sorry about the slower cadence of posts, people, just got the results and confirmed I've got the plague (had a fever since Saturday), though I already feel much better than the weekend. I'll move things along in the tracking asap 👍))
Take your time. Covid wrecked me for 6 weeks; coudlnt' get out of bed or passed out a few times. Sent my mom to the ER and intesnive care for 2 months. Careful, it goes up and down.
You track the pair of humanoid footprints down the other side of the hill, a stretch much narrower than the length you climbed. The pair seem intent into a certain direction in their descent, making it over boulders and undergrowth as they go, though their haste is what makes their tracks that much easier to follow, and you quickly make your way down the slope and into the plateau it joins into. This area is sparsely wooded, but the vegetation thickens as tilts slightly upwards again and into the Spine of the World Mountains.
The howling wind of the pass is quickly replaced by the eerie quiet of the woods, and the heavier vegetation provides for a more difficult tracking through some stretches, and though your group looses the trail ta times, the sharp eyes of Vanys and Red help in finding it back again at the other side of some fallen log. After that, the trail leads to the other side of the small thicket, up towards the rockier areas of the mountains, and the howling wind of the mountain range greets you back again.
This time, the strong wings and snowfall get in the way, Vanys is still able to follow the tracks for some time, but you reach a point in which all of you are uncertain of whether you're still following the same tracks you've been following before, the snow-covered shapes no longer fully recognizable.
((1st stretch of the track was a success, so was the 2nd. 3rd was almost a success (by 1), so I'll grant advantage on 1 of your next checks. Go ahead and give me 3 checks again, the goal is only not to reach 3 failures before 3 successes (group is at 2/1).))
Mihris was the first one to admit "I am completely lost. Not sure even if I would be able to find the way back and those tracks - whoever left them know how to hide the as well. What do we do? Returning empty-handed seems like we wasted time. Should we continue simply in that direction?"She pointed to where tracks were supposedly heading last time they could see them.
The wind was cutting cold and exhaustion burdened on her shoulder like a bag full of stones. Yet none of them could move the burning determination of little Elf."We are getting close,Miri." Mia encourages her best friend." Let's give it another try. If we fail… then go back and help the caravan on the pass"
(OOC: I remember we didn't use Inspiration! DM, can Inspiration neutralize the disadvantage of Mia's survival check?)
"Turning back now would mean we wasted all this time," Vanys says matter-o-factly. "We should push on until we lose the tracks for sure. Finding these people could be the best way to help the caravan. After all, if they were able to collapse an avalanche on us, imagine what else they could have in store for the caravan. Stopping the problem at its source is the only solution."
(OOC: @DM; Is this the same thing, where everybody is making three checks? Or is it three checks total this time?)

“The mark of a successful DM is when you have caused more player deaths with doors than dragons, demons, or devils.”
(OOC: I remember we didn't use Inspiration! DM, can Inspiration neutralize the disadvantage of Mia's survival check?)
((You certainly can! Can't remember if anyone used Inspiration on the first more social part of the adventure (or was it the other group?), but let's assume everyone still has it, you can use it on any check/attack. Remember each of you also has a potion of healing.))
(OOC: @DM; Is this the same thing, where everybody is making three checks? Or is it three checks total this time?)
((If you're going to try and continue to track the pair of footprints, yes, 3 group checks, so each of you rolls, Advantage on the 1st check of these three.))
It seemed everyone agreed to continue the pursuit. Mihris nodded to Mia and tried to concentrate on the surroundings, searching for any kind of tracks.
(Red has not used his. I infact forgot it existed)
"Moving is better, moving is warm. Its only a matter of time till we find them, or we freeze enough we have to build a shelter." Red comments as the group pauses, re-evaluates the trail and tries to find it. Red opting to focus on figuring out their movements up to this point and guessimating what direction they were likely heading for.
Feeling lost in this frozen wilderness seemed to sharpen your senses for just a moment, just enough for you to roam separately around the woods and quickly afterwards all find yourselves roaming towards the same spot, one clearing a bit to the south where you finally find your trail again, though you also find older tracks of what seems like large canine beasts, probably wolves roaming the area. The tracks tell you nothing else about these creatures, if they are wolves indeed, they've probably left the area to hunt hours ago. You proceed with renewed hopes following the pair of humanoid tracks out into a sparsely wooded area and eventually out of the woods as a whole and back into the increasingly rocky slopes of the Spine of the World Mountains.
Now much longer than one hour into the tracking, you continue to follow the footprints until they reach a small dark rock cliff where you can clearly see the handholds they used in the climb, cleared of snow and bearing the shapes of humanoid hands and boots. You easily make your way up the small cliff, and now stand on a narrow plateau that hugs one of the higher mountains along its northern face, stretching towards the east. This flat stretch of highland looks almost like an old abandoned trail or road into the mountains, and on the snow over it you're able to see weird-looking rushed tracks that look like narrow lines and horseshoes on full speed. The sunset is almost complete now, what is left of sunlight bathes the terrain around you in a dim purple hue and the cold fog starts to thicken again as far off in the distance you're able to hear the rushing water of a river and a crying or neighing horse.
Red has little to offer but providing warmth. As well as offering to mark their passages with Torches, or small orbs of light. To act as a method to prevent the group from ever losing the path or going in circles.
