Azaka takes Gotur's waterskin as she shivers from the quick but intense fever she gets from the grung poison. "Thanks."
((yeah, please deduct from the stockpile for this initial reconciliation, and then yep please everyone handle their own going forward. Yes that would be awesome if Spider can take care of the 2 additional each day for the guides. Eku in particular may not need it but she may as well use it to keep the bugs away from the entire perimeter of travel.))
((It seems the others might need to get more salve soon? I will try and add this piece to each day's roll post as a reminder. Phillip could split up/hand out his now as well.))
Gotur, here are the results of your survival checks. I will let you know overall what you found vs. by individual roll, just to keep it fun. Besides, some days might be harder than others to scavenge for the ingredients, after all with rain and whatnot.
You find:
- A sinda berry bush. Azaka was helping you and had told you about these berries so you know what they are. These berries are dark brown and bitter. The bush has 10 harvestable berries. Picked berries lose their freshness and efficacy after 72 hours. Fresh sinda berries can be eaten raw or crushed and added to a drink to dull the bitterness. A creature that consumes a fresh berry gains advantage on saving throws against disease and poison for the next 24 hours.
- 4 ryath roots. Azaka again helped you with identifying these. Any creature that ingests these particular ryath roots gains 6 temporary hit points. A creature that consumes more than one ryath root in a 24-hour period must succeed on a DC 13 CON saving throw or suffer the poisoned condition for 1 hour.
- 35gp worth of salve/incense raw materials.
As the party progresses, they might run out of salve? - in this case, the party would have to help Gotur look for ingredients and then camp somewhere while he crafts the salve.
If no salve is used, I haven't decided yet what the consequence will be. Something likely affecting mechanics of combat if there's a combat based encounter that happens and no bug spray was used that day.
New post coming up for start of day 20. Chult map has been updated, too.
Phillip sees Gotur’s concern when he’s stocktaking the reserves of insect repellent. He gladly hands him his 1x inscence and 20x salves for the stockpile (or to be divided out as he sees fit).
Phillip also offers to help forage for ingredients every evening before camping, if having two people foraging would either be ‘advantageous’, or have the chance of finding double quantities or something ((+8 expertise jungle survival, +7 expertise for jungle nature)).
He says it would be his pleasure as he loves just hanging out with Mr G’Tur in their downtime anyway. ((OOC: this would now form part of Phillip’s regular evening routine during ‘quiet’ days))
((We also have Evo's dome each night to protect from insects, so aren't as reliant on incense. The salve is also good for 24 hours, so I think we've been using that primarily. Gotur has only used 1/4th of his stockpile of ingredients so far, still have 318 days worth of salve. If Evo or Alton need a vial, he'll give them one (just let me know and I'll deduct the 20 from him and you can add it to yours.))
Gotur will share out the sindaberries among those who will benefit from them, urging them to each them while they're still effective (himself, Alton, the two guides, so two days of poison buffer for the four of us, then only two of us (say Gotur and Alton) get a third day).
The ryath roots will get shared out one to each of the PCs (guides have more HP than any of us do).
"Thanks P'lip, we should be good on salve, I'll be able to turn this into a ton of the stuff when we need it. What I could use more of is stuff for healing potions, I'm getting started on my last batch of that. Antitoxin would be useful too, though a bit more situational."
it will take 5gp worth of materials (the process to extract the ingredients from the raw materials to make the salve is intense and you don't get a lot from the raw materials.), along with 4 hours of your time. This is for the salve. To make the incense, it will take 3gp of materials, and 2 hours of your time.
((It might be easier to just refer to it as batches? The gp part trips me up when thinking about it alongside crafting rules where it costs half the gp to make it. I get thrown by using 5 gp of materials to make something that retails for 1gp. Or maybe thinking of it as ounces? He now has 35 ounces of material, salve consumes 5 ounces, incense consumes 3?))
Alton never bought insect salve or incense for himself, so it would be great if he could take from Gotur’s stash (Thank you!)
He would most likely try to offer some sort of payment to Gotur for the salve like some gold as a way to say thank you.
Also, similar to the rest of the group, Alton would agree that going straight through and avoiding any POI unless they specifically cause problems for the group.
"Oh, no, don't worry about that! Here's a fresh gourd for you. Evo, you need one? I'm sure Alton, it was only a gold for a 20 day supply, we're good. I bought 400 days worth of salve, divided among the five of us that need it, we should be good for another 60 days of trekking around the jungle. Plus P'lip and I found enough to make enough to last us another four weeks, so we've enough for another three months or so out here."
((I deducted an extra one from the stash for day 20 for Alton then. Day 21-40 you're on your own with your new gourd of salve.))

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Good point about the hut basically eliminating the need for the incense at night. Those can be added back on, perhaps used as a last resort if the party ever runs out of salve as they won't really ever be needed.
Oh yeah wow, we should be totally fine with insect salve for awhile. I will just post reminders each day's travel to consume one. For scavenging for supplies in the jungle going forward, I won't award insect salve materials unless you tell me to, once you start getting low or something or if you need more for whatever reason.
So - for the foraging checks going forward, will you be looking for 1. Antitoxin and 2. Healing potion ingredients? Let me know if there would be anything else. I will sprinkle in bonus plants that you find (the root and berries, for example)
Spider, are we using the times and costs below for the healing potions / antitoxin? And to substitute the 'cost', to your point about the gp thing which I also agree is an odd way of doing it, I will tell you how much raw materials measured in oz. that you, Phillip and anyone else find when they do their checks.
Healing - 1 day, 25 oz of materials Greater healing - 5 days 100 oz of materials Superior healing - 15 days 1,000 oz of materials Supreme healing - 20 days 10,000 oz of materials
The Antitoxin will use the same numbers as a regular healing potion. 1 day, 25 oz of materials.
Salve = 5oz materials, 4hrs
Incense = 3oz materials, 2 hrs
Hmm... now that we are fleshing this out, might there be anything else on the game's item list or something even in another book that Gotur might want to start creating? Acid, perhaps? Depending on the item and its availability in Chult, the DC for the materials will be adjusted accordingly. Some days you might find ingredients for different things. If it's something specific that you're looking for though, let me know, otherwise it will be random what you find based on roll, location, etc.
Please use survival for the rolls going forward. Gotur would've explained what the plants that he needs look like over the days of travel to the party, and so I will just need the survival check as the party knows what the stuff looks like. That being said - anyone can make the roll each day, although if it doesn't suit your character to go in the forest searching around for ingredients, don't do it. The guides will help out once in awhile. I'll give you one roll each from them below.
We won't make any more retro rolls though, other than the ones Gotur got.
Ok - let me know your thoughts on all of this in the meantime while I get the results of these survival checks along with day 22's rolls.
THANK YOU!!
Results of these to be posted ASAP along with day 22 kickoff:
((I did remove one salve from Gotur for when he did plant growth, figured he'd have lit one up when he was ritual casting for 8 hours.))
((Doing it by gp works for the healing potions, just not for the insect salves. But not in need of stuff for that, so we probably don't need to alter anything. Sorry, was trying to *fix* something that didn't matter with the backstock he has. Let's just stick to GP, as it works for the stuff that he'll he doing. Yes, 25 gp of materials and 8 hours to make the basic potions. He likely won't be making higher level ones, and healing potions would be his priority for now.))
((I'd be open to being able to craft stuff beyond the healing potions and antitoxin! We're already doing that with the crafting stuff you have for repellents. Acid would probably be more of an alchemist's kit item though... I'll have a think and a look and see if there's anything that might fit!))

Gotur, on day 20 you find 20gp worth of healing potion raw plant material.
Phillip, on day 21 you find 30gp worth of antitoxin raw material, along with 2 dancing monkey fruits, which Phillip would be familiar with.
Dancing Monkey Fruit
This rare magical fruit produces enough juice to fill a vial. Any humanoid that eats a dancing monkey fruit or drinks its juice must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or begin a comic dance that lasts for 1 minute. Humanoids that can’t be poisoned are immune to this magical effect.
The dancer must use all its movement to dance without leaving its space and has disadvantage on attack rolls and Dexterity saving throws, and other creatures have advantage on attack rolls against it. Each time it takes damage, the dancer can repeat the saving throw, ending the effect on itself on a success. When the dancing effect ends, the humanoid suffers the poisoned condition for 1 hour.
((remember, there will be no set scale for what you get based on each roll result. This way you won't know exactly what you end up getting each time. It will be different each time due to the overall availability of each forgeable item in the given section. This allows me some wiggle room, but for the most part upper teens and above will return some materials. The higher, the more/better/unique. I am still trying to see what makes sense as well so I will dial down/up the finds each day if need be. Also if you're searching for a specific thing let me know and I will base the rolls only for that specified material. Otherwise I will decide what turns up.))

Azaka and Eku both come up empty with their foraging attempts.
