Hello all! I am looking to run a group of 4-6 adventurers through Curse of Strand. It will be by the book, with some extras that I've thrown in to spice things up a bit! I'm not sure what else to say to introduce it, other than if you're interested to apply with the following:
Character name:
Race: (PHB only)
Class: (PHB, XGE, TCE only)
Ability scores: (standard array or point buy)
Brief Backstory:
(Sorry for formatting, I'm posting this from my phone)
Also, before finding yourself in Strahd's domain, you were part of an adventuring party different than the one you find yourself with now. I'd like at least two descriptions of other party members, and your relationship with them.
Also, starting level will be 3, and we will be using milestone advancement.
Brief Backstory: Dravos was the eldest son of five children, of a minor lord. Having access to a good education, his father ensured he learned as much as he could, while teaching him the way of the blade and lance. Once in adolescence, Dravos was sent to be fostered with another family, taking a liking for their daughter. As he aged, he became a proficient swordsman and a wonderful horseman. He earned his spurs and knighthood at the age of 110, fairly young for a high elf. His father at this point was ailing and his mother had recently passed, Dravos returned home and took the mantle of warden of his father's lands. A year after returning, his father passed, and his lands passed to Dravos. He had kept in touch with his childhood friend, eventually proposing to her.
Decades passed and they had several children and were happy. One stormy night, Dravos invited a wanderer into their house who had been seeking shelter. They chatted late into the night before he retired to his chambers, only to find his wife drained of life and the wanderer fled. Clutching her remains, he swore vengeance upon all vampire kind as he drove a stake into her heart. He still seeks the wanderer who murdered his wife.
Previous companions: Eraminus: Human fighter- Eraminus is the elder of the two brothers. He fought with a company called the sworn swords, a group dedicated to the peasants and surfs of the kingdom. He was a brash man, kept tempered by his cautious younger brother, Petros. Eraminus and Petros met Dravos while tasked with killing a rouge vampire spawn that had been preying on a small hamlet. Eraminus and Petros parted ways with Dravos upon completion of the task, only to bump into him a number of times. Dravos has admired him as a greatsword fighter, while Eraminus has playfully taunted Dravos for hiding with a shield.
Petros: Younger brother of Eraminus, he served as a cleric for a number of years. Upon a visit to a shanty town and seeing the injustice in the world, he took up arms. Taught by his older brother, he took up the mace and joined the sworn swords, acting as their healing. He has a kind heart, often tending to villagers and those afflicted with any number of ailments. He admired Dravos but was weary of his unyielding hate to the undead.
Ability scores: (standard array or point buy) STR 8 DEX 15 CON 12 INT 13 WIS 17 CHA 10
Brief Backstory(Still working on it, but this is what I have so far): Peren is an elven priest of Kelemvor from Baldur's Gate(Assuming it's in FR in 5e. I'll adjust to other campaign settings) He was born and raised in an elven community in Amn until his adopted son was turned by a vampire, who bit Peren. He started hunting the vampire, but when he caught up to it, he discovered something horrible. His son had been raised by Lord Ruthven(Such a creative name. Definitely not stolen from the first classical vampire) and turned into a vampire spawn just before his father found the vampire. Ruthven used the vampire spawn that had been his family to escape, and Peren failed. He moved to Baldur's Gate, became a priest of Kelemvor, and dropped his surname, Siannodel. Peren hunts undead with his clerical powers, despite lingering doubts about his own humanity.
Other party members: Peren was aided in his hunt for Lord Ruthven by a rock gnome ranger, Zeph [insert gnome surname here], and annoyed by a necromancer he could barely stand who hunted Ruthven for personal reasons, Abigail.
Questions: 1. Can I have a longbow in addition to my cleric starting equipment? 2. Will add more.
Hi there ! I've never tried this story, so super Keen ! Happy to play a spellcaster ! (of if it doesn't work, I was thinking of a fighter cavalier)
Character name: Ryuku
Race: (PHB only) = Half-Elf
Class: (PHB, XGE, TCE only) Shadow Sorcerer
Ability scores: (standard array or point buy) 8-16-12-8-14-17 (incl. Half-elf ability bonuses)
Brief Backstory:
"Ryuku was born in Triboar, thirty five years ago. Young, he joined a group of bounty hunter in search of a wizard that had killed several farmers. An easy task they said. His squad finally found its bounty but this target was more powerful than anticipated. With a few magic word, the mage devastated his group. A large explosion of blue flames threw Ruyku on the floor, at the death's door. He saw his whole group dead and the skeletal face of the wizard staring at him. With a last incantation, Ryuku's body and mind were shredded in pieces; he died. Ryuku remembers time slowing down, coming to an halt and everything turning black and grey. His memories are blurry; a feminine pale face showing no emotions looking upon him, a raven croaking, and a smooth voice saying it was not time yet. He woke up, survived, and in the following months he discovered that he acquired some magical abilities and vowed to use them to chase down evil and undead. Very charismatic, Ryuku always knew how to sway people the way he wanted. He joined the newly formed Order of the Gauntlet faction of the city of Yartar, devoted to promoted justice and good. His missions usually send him to fight evil or undead. But, deep down, he knows that there is a higher purpose of his life. Was he hallucinating or did he really die? Was this woman the Raven Queen? Why was he brought back from the dead ?"
Also, before finding yourself in Strahd's domain, you were part of an adventuring party different than the one you find yourself with now. I'd like at least two descriptions of other party members, and your relationship with them. - Braduril, a fighter dwarf, drinking companion, always laughing but goes silent when asked about his past. - Elendil, an elf wizard, Ryuku was really close to her but no romance. Her signature spell was magic missiles that made firework noise and were purple. Her way to be different from others.
Both died at the hand of the bounty.
Also, starting level will be 3, and we will be using milestone advancement. Nice
Ability scores: point buy (I'll post a link to a character sheet later today)
Brief Backstory: third out of five siblings, Durthon sought to make fortune in the army. He learned how to follow orders and the basic drills. He chose Hanseath as a god to follow, he was not completely unnotices as he learnt how to brew mead, which he freely shared with his companions. Eventually he decided that the rigurous army discipline was not the best fit for him and declined to reenlist after serving his time.
Other party members: Durthon travelled with Dreznal, a dragonborn paladin, Imildis, a half-elf druid, and Celomdar, a high elf ranger. They never spent a long while in the same region, but travelled far looking for adventure. Most notably, they liberated the Hamlet of Selpt from a monster that was terrorizing them. Imildis was always pointing up new herbs and spices that Durthon could use in the beverages he brew, while Dreznal would happily try them around the campfire. Celomdar was more reclusive, but guided the group through unexplored terrain never getting lost.
Ability scores: Str 8 Dex 14 Con 12 Int 13 Wis 10 Cha 15 (before mods)
Brief Backstory: Vanna was set in to evict a hag from her mother's lands, but found a gathering of several covens. Dispatching her guards, the hosting hag decided to make an example of her in front of her guests, removing her eyes during a recitation of lyrical poetry and and decorative thaumatergy. She then dumped Vanna into a portal into a pocket dimension containing an arcane labyrinth. She spent the next three years in that labyrinth, stumbling blind, occasionally tormented by the hag, learning it was a travel nexus and training ground for her kind. People trapped in the maze were often used for magical experimentation, though the hag's choices were based mostly on who was 'entertaining', and Vanna found she was often passed over. In time, she scrounged the means to learn enough about the hag's power to claim some of it for herself, and to cobble together a spell casting focus. In learning the patterns of the labyrinth she learned it's secrets too, as well as the linchpin needed to destroy it. With that knowledge she confronted the hag, and forced her to grant her the pact and restore her eyes. Holding the safety of the labyrinth over her head, she demanded her release, and forced the hag to open a portal. As she walked through, and felt the mists close around her she heard the hag laughing.
In the labyrinth Vanna never had a permanent 'party', but some individuals she did connect with at times. One was a younger drow man who helped her survive through her first weeks. She sacrificed him to survive a hag's attention. In the lowest part of a the labyrinth, she made something close to a friend, who was either a changeling or a shifting hallucination brought on by deprivation. If she was real, she taught her to accept her blindness without giving up on survival.
For whatever reason, it's not letting me edit that. One small change; I don't want the hag to have restored her eyes. It would be interesting to have the character be blind.

Brief Backstory: Gervis is what one might call an oddity; a dwarf whose muscles didn't bulge with hidden strength, nor have hammer or a pair of axes tucked away under his beard. The way some people looked at him when he passed up on the arm wrestling contests almost made him think he'd shaved that beard.
Fortunately, for the Quickhand Mercenary Company, the size of Gervis's muscles didn't matter. What did matter was that he was good with a lock and even better with his blades. Though he might not have been as strong as other dwarves, he was just as feisty, he loved his ale just as much, and you definitely didn't want to cross him with the wrong end of a deal.
Which was why, upon finding himself in Barovia, Gervis was in a foul mood, and ready to make someone pay. This wasn't his gig, these people weren't the Quickhands, and someone was going to pay for it.
QUICKHAND MERCENARY COMPANY - under the spoiler
Shai Willowbraid was a reticent, pale-skinned woman whose personality was as dour as the Twilight Goddess that she worshiped. Blessed by the gods with the gift of healing, Shai was the Quickhand Company's on-call healer and expert in all things supernatural. Her gift for understatement often made what might have otherwise been unsettling situations often managable for the Quickhands. She and Gervis got along very well, thanks to their shared love of hard drink and sparse conversation.
Bram Moltenheim was an idiot. Everyone recognized that fact. But he was a handsome, charismatic idiot who at least knew the right way to point his crossbow. The young human was appointed the "leader" of the Quickhands, though both Shai and Gervis would have been quick to point out that he was little more than a figurehead for the group, what with his brain being the most atrophied muscle in his body. That notwithstanding, he was a fine warrior, and deadly ally to have on your side when facing enemies in a tough spot.
Brief Backstory: Konrad grew up as a farmer and learned his talent for adventuring late. When the time came he just did, what he thought was right and joined an adventuring group to defend his hometown, even though he wa scared at first. Not the smartest one, but one of the most kindhearted fellows you will ever meet, he was quickly adopted into the group of adventurers. Together they fended of and extinguished a goblin tribe, that nearly burned down his home town. He then stumbled into strahds domain, while on a quest to hunt a werewolf. In a misty night in the woods he found strange tracks at his camp location, followed them, got lost and found himself in barovia. ( I wanna point out, I didn't play CoS yet, I just read a brief description) Konrad is very loyal and beliefs in the power of friendship as his highest ideal (which also reflects in his protective fighting style). In his group, there was Raki, a Tabaxi rogue and a loner. Raki was really hurt in the past and that is why he never let anyone get close to him, but Konrad made great progress on piercing trough his rough exterior and enable him to open up. There was also Lenara, the beautiful elven bard. She grew dear to Konrads heart quickly, very dear. He admired her kindness, joyfullness and her skill with the harp, though he would not admit to himself, that his feelings for her went deeper than a close friendship.

That certainly would be interesting! It would also call on me as DM to describe more than just the visuals in a setting, so I'm all for it.
