Eerie trots down the stairs having heard the female dwarf and shares with the others. "They do want help but have been through a tremendous trauma. We should help them. Maybe they'll still provide the payment, and it will give us somewhere to start." Eerie glances over at Max eyeing the Snowshoes. "They're probably left to avoid debris by the tables but perhaps the bartender might know who we could buy some from?"
She moves to the bar to address Scramsax, "Might you know where we could purchase some snowshoes? And another bottle of the Mead please? Made a gift of the last one."She places another 5 cp on the counter.
While others approach the barkeep, Carric goes over to the snowshoes and picks up one of them. He moves it around, feeling its weight and inspecting it, trying to get a sense of how it might work.
Scramsax takes the copper pieces from Eerie, a curious look on his face as his eyes dart to the stairs – he must have heard the commotion prompted by Lucius’s appearance.
“Well the snowshoes belong to the patrons here; Renfield Evenwood makes them in his shop near the town center. He’ll sell you a new pair for a couple of gold pieces”
A male dwarf with rich red hair turns in his seat to face you and says “You can have mine for one gold if you like. I’m not leaving town for a bit and I’m out of beer money”
Scramsax places Eerie’s new mead on the bar and says “Thorin, that’ll be the third pair you’ve sold this month, why don’t you just bring more coin?”
“Because I can always buy more shoes. If I bring any more coin to drink then Gertie will lock me out”
Eerie grins at the dwarf, "I'll take that deal if you'll let me have a look at them first?" Holding up a gold coin to show her offer is real with a grin at his subterfuge. "Anyone else have a pair to sell?" She says raising her voice a bit.
Max heads over to Carric to take a look at the snowshoes and then joins Eerie. “Good thinking! We wouldn’t want to walk away with someone’s snowshoes if they hadn’t misplaced them”
Carric inspects the snowshoe and determines that it works by spreading the wearer's weight over a wide area. It would slow one down in ordinary terrain, but would doubtless provide a net gain to speed on snow as they prevent the wearer from sinking in.
Thorin takes Eerie's coin with a contented grin: "Done and done, thank you and you're welcome!". He waves the coin at Scramsax, who shakes his head and pours another ale for the dwarf.
A couple of other patrons look over at Eerie's request for more trades, but none are forthcoming.
She takes a look at the snowshoes and seeing them lightly used (as the bartender mentioned he'd purchased several recently), accepts them happily. "Here you are Max. These should fit you just right." Then whispers, "Until we all have a pair, I can shift into something that can more easily travel in snow."
"Interesting,"Carric says quietly as he realizes how the snowshoes work. He had never had a need for such a thing on the streets of Neverwinter.
As Eerie and Max deal with the just-purchased set of snowshoes, Carric says: "I am intrigued to see how it might be to move over snow without these devices. I may not be as fast as usual but I would imagine I could keep up. Perhaps I will test that out once I am out of town." The monk seems ready to leave the tavern, which holds little appeal for him.
Thirteen re-enters the inn whilst the others are discussing snow shoes. He asks for directions to Renfield's shop to purchase some big enough for him and his weight (assume 2gp)
He fits them and joins the others, whilst getting used to the cumbersome feeling of the new footwear.
"North East it is then?" he says out loud to the others whilst gazing into the cloudy sky.
Virjor spots Thirteen on his way to Renfield's shop and follows along. "Please, my metal friend, let me!" Virjor pays for both of their snow shoes (I'll remove 4gp) and congratulates himself on his generosity, saying "No one has ever become poor by giving." he turns asking Carric to note down his wisdom, but realises he's not there and sighs.
Virjor fits his new snow shoes and confidently strides away from the shop, immediately tripping over, he pulls himself up embarrassed, coughs, and says "After you dear fellow..." to Thirteen.
He instructs Lucius to fly high above them in a circular manner so they can get early warning on any creatures.
Seeing the others head out to buy some snowshoes of their own, she decides to join them and pick up a pair and returns to head out the North gate with the others. (2 gp removed from mine)
You leave Bryn Shander and head north east towards Kelvin's Cairn. You walk for a couple of hours in the thick snow, wondering at the darkened sky when your body clock tells you it should be approaching midday.
You estimate that you are nearly halfway to the Cairn, and maybe a couple of miles from the sled's position, when a blizzard drops upon you without any warning. Thick snow flakes obscure your vision and a fierce wind starts to bite through every crack in your clothing.
Eerie tries to remember the terrain around them, was there anything likely to provide shelter close-by? "We should seek shelter. I'd hate to meet up with the yeti at such a disadvantage."
Virjor shivers, pulls his robes close and looks ahead through the blizzard and says with relief "Um, yes, I can see you are all tiring a little - let us seek some shelter, things will get better...remember: the rainbow hides within the storm" he nods to Carric with a knowing smile expecting the monk to note down more of his wise words.
Virjor looks through the tundra for somewhere to shelter: Perception14 (and if advantage with Lucius?) also 14
Thirteen partially accepts Virjor's generosity, but in response wraps one of the snow shoes around the wizards head. "Think man, before you action. Could be the difference between making friends and dying. For one meant to be so intelligent, you are very damn stupid at times. Appreciate these." And he holds up the shoes. "Seem very sturdy!"
He then walks on with the rest of the group. As soon as the snow storm hits he grabs hold of any close to him, so not to get anyone lost. And agrees that they should seek shelter, and ride this out.
As the swirling blizzard picks up rapidly, Eerie manages to find some options with her sharp eyes.
A low hill, about one hundred yards to the north, seems to have a natural entrance in its south face - you head over and enter to find that it opens up into a wide cave. You descend the long slope from the entrance down to a basin-like cavern.
(Any activity while you wait out the blizzard, or on entering the cave?)

(Inspiration for Eerie for making such a lovely gesture)

You have a choice; press on or seek shelter?
