Virjor peers into the cave warily using his Darkvision. He rummages through his backpack and exclaims with a smile "Give light, and the darkness will disappear of itself!", pulls out a Torch which he lights and uses Mage Hand to carry the torch 30ft ahead of himself and the party.
Lucius the Owl has also taken shelter and is now tentatively perching upon Thirteen's shoulder using his 120ft Darkvision. (Passive perception for Virjor & Lucius both 13)
Max, Virjor and Lucius see no sign of any immediate danger; the bowl-shaped cave seems dry and safe.
@Eerie:
Some extensive experience in caves (for you or your parents) gives you a keen eye for the situation. No sign of animals building a den here; no soft materials gathered into beds or remains of prey. But the cracks in the ceiling and walls prompt your suspicion; they could be indicative of nocturnal and/or burrowing creatures, maybe even predators. And from the size of the cracks, small tunnels with a 5ft diameter, any creatures using them for shelter could be the size of an adult humanoid
Virjor seems pleased that the cave appears safe and strides further in to seek shelter from the blizzard. Although he does think they may be facing something soon so casts Mage Armor upon himself*, and his robes suddenly take on a glimmering quality. Virjor is really rather pleased with the look and does a quick twirl for everyone to see.

Carric helps as best he can to secure their newfound shelter. Despite his thin frame, the wood elf is a hardy sort and not prone to worry about the creature comforts of life. While others do their thing, he crouches near the cave entrance, peering out into the blizzard, standing guard and looking for any unwelcome guests that might also be looking to access the cave for shelter.
Thirteen sees the owl approach him and is very tempted to grab it in mid flight and snap its neck, but at the last minute realises it may be of assist in this cave. So instead, waits for it to perch on his shoulder then bats it away with the back of his hand.
"Do I look like a perch wizard??! In fact, don't answer that."
And he paces the entrance to the cave, keeping his eye out for anything suspicious.

Stood in the centre of the bowl-shaped cave, you prepare to settle for a rest and scan the walls for danger. After a bout fifteen minutes, a strange scratching noise begins to drift from the cracks in the walls.
It grows louder and louder until with a sudden burst of speed, three insect-like creatures leap from the walls and skitter across the floor towards you. They are quadrupedal with chitinous bodies and mouths full of fangs.
(Everyone roll initiative please. No map for this - you are at the centre of a round cave, diameter 50ft, with an open south wall. One creature is north of you, one is east and one is west)
Thirteen draws Shatterspike with a dramatic swoop, then whispers over his shoulder, "you may lose your cover shortly wizard, I suggest you find an immovable object to hide behind"
"Thank you for your concern Thirteen!" Seemingly pleased the warforged is warming to him, Virjor squats low. From between the metal man's legs he casts Fire Bolt at the insect. He also shouts "Fiiirrrre Bolt!" as he does so.* Attack: Attack: 27 (Critical +7) Damage: 18 (8 + bonus d10)
Virjor then runs 30ft back towards the entrance of the cave.
Lucius is still on Thirteen's shoulder and from it's vantage point provides the Help action. Thirteen now has advantage on his next attack roll.
*Assuming Max hasn't already killed the first one, if so he target's the second... :)

Carric Initiative 7
Somewhat mesmerized by the movement of the falling snow, Carric is slow to react to the sounds and the sudden bursting out of the creatures. He silently tells himself he must remember to remain present and mindful of his surroundings as he slowly moves into a fighting stance.
Thirteen feels the owl return back to his shoulder, ready to swat it off again when the creature's appear ahead.
He lurches forward, towards the middle of the three enemies, to put himself in the wasps nest. His eyes turns from the electric blue to a deep red as the rage takes over.
Raging, with advantage (from owl help), and with ancestral protectors -
Attack: 24 Damage: 8
While raging, the first creature you hit with an attack on your turn has disadvantage on any attack that isn't against you, and when the target hits a creature other than you, that creature has resistance to the damage dealt by the attack.
Initiative order: Max 21, Lucius 12, Virjor 10, Thirteen 8, Carric 7, Creatures 7, Eerie 6
Max fires at one of the creatures but his bolt flies wide, clattering into the wall of the cave.
Lucius flies leaps from Thirteen’s shoulder to distract the creature and give the barbarian help with his attack as Virjor’s fire bolt arcs over them to smash into the insectoid just as they arrive.
Thirteen’s sword smashes down on the creature’s carapace, leaving it severely wounded after the attacks.
