Meeposeems to grow a little in confidence, maybe sensing that he is not in immediate danger.
“Goblins are evil, they take Calcryx, our dragon. They come from that way (he points north to answer Notian’squestion), “and Meepo’s tribe lives that way” (he points west to answer Carric’s).
“Meepo take you to see Yusdrayl if you like, boss of clan? Not to the goblins though, Meepo not a fighter. But if new friends bring Calcryx back, tribe celebrate in a BIG way!”
Meepohas been getting more animated, but suddenly his face drops to a look of discomfort as he sees Eerie scoop up the jade figures from the bench: “Please not take Meepo’s things! Please?”
It’s ok Meepo, sometimes adventurers like us have to grab things we find to help pay for potions and weapons that can help us, help people like you. We didn’t realise they were your things. That does make me think if you know of any potions or weapons around here that would be useful for us getting your dragon back? Yes don’t have much I can give you in return, I have a candle that might maje the place look a little more comfortable and your welcome to have that if it would help you.
Eerie brings the items over to Meepo quickly and hands them to him, "They are very interesting, did you draw all this?" She says in an awe-filled manner, gesturing to the walls. "I confess, I wanted to be like Meepo and draw like this. What does it say?"
Carric continues to listen closely, noting that the bard seems to be handling their newfound "friend" quite well. After the kobold responds to Eerie's question, he looks to Meepo. "Have you ever heard anything about a special apple these goblins might have?"
13 ponders the questions and answers going back and forward and addresses the group when there is a moment of quiet.
"I say we commit ourselves North towards the goblins. It is where our original quest points us and the main reason we are all here. Plus, we now have a new promise to keep."
He addresses Meepo now, "Meepo, we will go to these goblins and find Calcryx and do our best to return him unharmed. We would just need to understand how he will respond to us if we try to help him. Will he come with us willingly, and how can we get him back without him causing harm to us?"
Meepoconsiders all your questions in turn. “Candle? Pretty candles yes, but not much use for Meepo or his tribe – we see just fine under the dark” he says proudly.
“Yusdrayl owns all the tribe’s special things, he’s smart so knows how to use them”. Asked about the writings on the wall, and obviously flattered by Eerie’srespectful tone, Meepoannounces “It say 'Here there be dragons'in commonspeak, but we write in dragonspeak" (Notian, looking at the writing for the first time, realises that this is indeed written in Draconic).
At Carric’smention of the apples, Meepobecomes more solemn. “Goblins try to kick kobolds out of castle because they think we want the apples, but we don’t. Meepo’s friend Grabbat says they bring the apples up from underneath, from The Outcast, to sell to the surface people. Grabbat was lucky to come back from the goblin hive, but he’s with the dragons now...”
Meepolooks crestfallen as he remembers his fallen friend and 13raises the issue of next steps whilst asking for advice on handling the dragon. “She's so big and strong, but still a baby. And she doesn't mean to hurt Meepo but she so playful. Maybe...maybe Meepo come after all. To make sure Calcryx doesn’t hurt Meepo’s new friends, or get hurt coming back”
Eerie listens intently to Meepo, then says "There is a door over there, with a wire at the bottom of it. I think it might be a trap. I hope we don't have to go that way."
I think we should speak with Yusdrayl before we head off towards the Goblins. He may have special things to help us and possibly a place to take a long rest as all my spells are exhausted.
"Yea, we should probably speak to him, if nothin else he might also have a map, or be able to give us some directions" Foxford reached his big meaty palm up and rubbed the back of his head where it met his neck. "I don't feel as comfortable taking front line with all this talk of traps"
Carric nods at the suggestion to visit the kobold leader.
In response to Foxford, he says: "I can look for traps,"he says. "I know a little bit about how to deal with them from my younger days."
OOC: He's proficient w/Thieves Tools, but doesn't have any at the moment. Too expensive for a Level 1 monk and they aren't part of the starting kit for class or background.
"Sounds wild" Foxford took the cigar from his mouth and released a large amount of smoke into the air, "Maybe start by looking at that door then?" he pointed towards where the tripline had been indicated with his cigar in hand before returning it to his mouth.
Eerie looks at Meepo, "Would you consider a trade? I like those little figurines and my sickles might be useful to you?" She unsheathes them carefully and shows them to him.
Then as he considers or after, "Tell me more about Calcryx. You must be very brave to be so close to a dragon, even a baby. I've never been close to a dragon before. I think I would be scared. If you come with us, maybe I can be brave too."
You trace the wire up the doorframe where it appears to lead into the room. It seems that whatever the tripwire activates is on the other side of the door. Whilst examining the door at such close proximity, you hear gentle snoozing sounds coming from the other side.
Meeposees Carricinspecting the northwestern door and chirps “Be careful of the guards, they rush out quick!”
Looking at Eerie’soffered sickles, his eyes light up: “Ooh they so shiny. So well looked after, you really want to trade?” He ponders a moment and finally relents: “Yes, yes a good price for us both. It is agreed!” (Update your character sheet to reflect the trade).
"Meepo only brave with Calcryx, she never hurt me. Goblins would hurt me though...yes, we be brave together”
He nods enthusiastically as conversation turns to meeting Yusdrayl, and declares “Yes! Yes meet the boss, follow Meepo!”
In an instant he is off, down the western corridor at pace and shouting something intermittently as he goes.
@Notian:
You understand the draconic for ‘Ticklecorn’ is the word Meepo keeps shouting out.
Meepostands at the T-junction, waiting impatiently for you to follow him and keen to head north from there.
(She saves the Jade figurines for the group treasure - but will carry them for later division of goods)Eeries grins back, "A good trade indeed," and looks about to the others. "This way then? If you all agree? Yusdrayl may provide us with valuable information to get us through the Goblins quicker?"
13 nods towards the group, " I am content to follow the wishes of the majority, it is best that we stay together. However, I am eager for these goblins to meet my sword"
"Shall we?", he gestures to Meepo to lead the way if the others are willing.
Carric rejoins the others after examinig the tripwire. "The wire looks like it activates something on the other side of the door," he says. "My guess it is an alarm--I could hear the sound of someone sleeping on the other side. Are those the 'fast' guards, Meepo?"Carric is fine with having this conversation as they travel to kobold central.
Meepoleads you north, answering your questions: “The guards need, er, rest. To make them so quick?” He does not seem to be convincing himself.
“Ticklecorn is the password, it’s how the guards know you a friend. It helps to not stab them also. And to not look them in eye”
The corridor opens into a huge hall, you enter from somewhere near its southwest corner. A double row of relief-carved marble columns march the length of this long, large room. The worn carvings depict entwining dragons.
Three kobolds are walking the perimeter of the hall, equally distanced apart. Whenever one of them passes the door opposite your own entranceway they seem to stiffen and pay it particular attention.
Meepoturns left and walks westward down the hall towards what appears to be a throne area.
A short throne stands near the west wall, constructed of fallen bits of masonry stacked against an old altar. On the top of the altar sit a variety of small items. The portion of the altar that serves as the throne’s back features a carving of a rearing dragon. A metallic key is held firmly in the dragon’s open jaws.
Sat upon the throne, flanked by two more guards, is an impressive-looking kobold in a white robe. She looks at your approaching party with caution, but indicates to the guards to hold on place with the subtlest of gestures when she sees your guide approaching at the head of the party. They speak in a language most of you do not recognise, although you recognise Meepo use the name 'Yusdrayl'.
@Notian:
Meepo speaks to Yusdrayl with utmost reverence in draconic, a language that does not convey tone audibly. Meepo explains that your group have offered to recover Calcryx and he asks for permission to lead you to the goblin encampment.
@Everyone:
Yusdraylthen addresses you all in common: “Meepo here tells me that you are mighty warriors and wish to recover our blessed dragon. I will not waste our time with subterfuge; we would greatly welcome the return of Calcryx, but what would be your price?”
Carric almost opens his mouth to respond to the kobold leader, but realizes his lack of need for material compensation for the task may not exactly align with the others' thinking. And so the slight wood elf remains silent for now.

Let’s go, Meepo, what’s “ticklecorn” my good friend
