Pricing of magic items has always been a bit of hard thing as it is campaign dependent. Most magic items are not really meant to be sold or bought in most settings as they are very rare and hard to price. However if you have a "high" magic setting like eberron or something similar. It's best for you to figure out the pricing of the items based on how much value you think they add to a character. Anything that gives + to stats is most likely to be considered valuable. While things that give additional abilities might be even more so. Hope that helps. The DMG does have a general pricing guide and some more info on Pg 135.
The community a while back did a fantastic pdf which a lot of people use called Sane Magical Prices. A lot of the behind the scenes info and discussion around it can be found on the GitP Forums.
In my group, we actually add a 2.8 multiplier on non-consumables, as otherwise the items are still too cheap. At the very least, this gives a good base line to work from.

Thanks for this! I hadn't run across it previously and it really helps me out. I'm well over the "magic item shop" concept, but occasionally an NPC has an item they're interested in trading and it's awfully handy to have a comparative value reference.

Does anyone know of the pricing for magic items or even a way to price them?
