I am led to believe that having Advantage essentially grants a +5 to hit once the averages are worked out. Okay...got it.
What about rerolling for things like the Piercer Feat? If I'm shooting a Longbow for 1D8+5 damage and I have Piercer, is there a new average for the D8?
Sorry, I have a min/maxer in my party who asked this, and I wanted smarter heads to chime in.
Not sure, probably +2 since that's 1/4 of a D8, and +5 is 1/4 of a D20.
If this is right, a (fairly) constant +2 damage doesn't suck. The bonus die for Crits seems like a cherry on top (the +1 stat bump got him to 17 at lvl 1).
First of all, I don't like calling advantage "+5" because the actual odds of success change depending on the minimum roll to succeed. If you need to roll a 19 or 20 to succeed, advantage only increases your odds of success from 10% to 19%, a +5 would have been 35%.
Damage rerolls like with piercer isn't the same as advantage so the math works out differently and depends on the die. A d6 is normally 3.5 and goes to 4.25 with reroll, a d8 is normally 4.5 and goes to 5.5 with reroll, a d10 is normally 5.5 and goes to 6.75 with reroll, and a d12 is normally 6.5 and goes to 8 with reroll. Assuming you only reroll rolls that were below average damage for maximum result.

BoringBard's long and tedious posts somehow manage to enrapture audiences. How? Because he used Charm Person, the #1 bard spell!
He/him pronouns. Call me Bard. PROUD NERD!
