So my DM today decided that all of my ranged attacks had to be made at disadvantage because of the dungeon we were in having dim light. Besides this just straight up not being how the dim light rules work, I am playing as a warlock with Devil's Sight and can see through magical darkness to a distance of 120 feet. And the thing I was firing Eldritch Blasts at was only 20 feet away.
Can anyone site a rule outside of DM's discretion for this? Today is the first time that he has brought this rule in after we have been playing for months and are nearing the end of this campaign and It has essentially nerfed my character being that it is a ranged spellcaster.
Dim light doesn't have any impact on attacks, lighrly obscured only give disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight
Vision and Light: A given area might be lightly or heavily obscured. In a lightly obscured area, such as dim light, patchy fog, or moderate foliage, creatures have disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.
What give disadvantage to attacks is a greater absence of light in darkness where one cannot see inside. A heavily obscured area--such as darkness, opaque fog, or dense foliage--blocks vision entirely. A creature effectively suffers from the blinded condition when trying to see something in that area.
Blinded: A blinded creature can't see and automatically fails any ability check that requires sight. Attack rolls against the creature have advantage, and the creature's attack rolls have disadvantage.
