Can Greater Restoration be used to remove the diseases and conditions that Lesser Restoration removes? It's a higher level spell, it's more powerful, and it costs 100 GP worth of powdered diamond dust every time it's cast so that's not ideal but I'm playing a Celestial Warlock and my spell list is pretty tiny.
Unfortunately, no. Nowhere in the spell's wording does it mention doing anything similar to Lesser Restoration or does it reference that spell. I believe the name has remained as it is merely for the familiarity factor.
To paraphrase Jeremy Crawford about things like this: "If it did so, it would say so." :/
If you're really hard pressed for spells in your progress, see if you can get scrolls of Greater Restoration at least semi-consistently? Other than the charmed condition, the effects it handles don't actually come up all that often.
Yea, looking at the spell descriptions they may feel like they're indicative of a better spell. However, in this situation, they are 2 completely different arrays of fixes that you're granted, so unfortunately you're kinda stuck with picking and choosing.

Oh. Interesting. I always assumed greater has every choice that lesser does but reading both spells it's not clear that it does.
