Ted isn't the arbiter of good design. No content creator is.
My problem with it is that it feels like it's ACTIVELY punishing valid playstyles for not allocating stats more evenly, & is an unasked for "hard mode" for choosing the route of a malefactor group like the Cult of the Dragon.
Less "poor design" moreso "punitive design"

Should it be this way? Because none of them fit together properly, unlike other factional backgrounds and feats.
It’s definitely weird, but it matches the physical book, so not a bug in D&D Beyond.
