Hello. The vigilant Guardian feature in the Mark of the Sentinel feat reads : "When a creature you can see within 5 feet of you is hit by an attack roll, you can take a Reaction to swap places with that creature, and you are hit by the attack instead."
How do this work when mounted and the triggering attack is against your mount ? Do you physically swap places with your mount ?
I think that’s going to come down to a DM ruling. The rules assume there aren’t 2 creatures in the same square, because mounted combat is probably the only time that happens.
If it were me, I’d probably just ignore the swap places part of it. While comical, the horse riding you would be just a real pain. The rider would end up prone and under the mount, per the movement rules: “If you somehow end a turn in a space with another creature, you have the Prone condition (see the rules glossary) unless you are Tiny or are of a larger size than the other creature.”
It would make for an interesting tactical choice: take the hit for the mount, but end up prone under it. But that would also make the power substantially weaker. And considering how rarely mounted combat seems to happen (ime. I’m sure there are games where it happens) it seems like it would be fine to allow an exception to the swapping condition while mounted.
