ok never mind my stupidity, i forget its Dex+con for barb isn't it
Unarmored defence still doesn't help you since your AC will only be 13 in this case (edit: 15 with a shield). The same as using mage armor. You'd be better off with medium armor and a shield which would at least be 16AC (with 0 modifier from dex). Or go with Eldritch Knight and heavy armor for an 18 AC.
However, whatever you have fun with is what matters in the long run :) .. just remember you can't concentrate on or cast spells while raging so most of the time the character will play more like a 3rd level barbarian OR a 2nd level wizard (at level 5) since many of the abilities are limited due to rage. Your AC at 13 will also be a bit of a problem for engaging in melee.
i know the spellcasting rule for raging, and i know my AC won't be super high but i can still see myself having so much fun with a Goliath Rage wizard lol

Playing a build you do have fun with is always better than playing an optimized build... just be sure that your definition of "fun" matches up with what gameplay is going to actually look like for you.
You will essentially be playing a character that is going to be, at almost all times, only as powerful as a generic character that is half of your own total character level. To put it in other terms, you will basically be only slightly more capable than a sidekick in most circumstances. If your definition of "fun" doesn't include this, you're probably not going to have a great time.

You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
yea i dropped the idea for heavy armor, and was planning to grab Light armor prof at level 4 then maybe medium at level 8. i made a goliath wizard for fun, but hes a upclose and personal kinda wizard lol
Keep in mind:
You gain no benefit from the Barbarian's Unarmored Defense feature if you are wearing any armor.
If you use Rage, you are unable to cast any spells, and any spell you were maintaining concentration on (like Haste) automatically ends.
Casting a spell with an attack roll, while adjacent to any hostile creature, is done at disadvantage.
Point three isn't completely true. Casting spells that have a ranged spell attack have disadvantage when cast while adjacent to any hostile creature. Casting spells with a melee spell attack are done normally.
