It really depends on your GM how well this works depending on how you build it out....and as of 2024 changes to Monk...it really doesn't have the impact it used to.
I was running a (2014 rules/hb) monk/fighter that is way of the open hand, and fighter with unarmed, with Brute as subclass.
My guy has been an absolute DPS monster for a while now. Monk Unarmed strikes have pretty much always been considered Melee weapons(GM fiat, and until 2024 changes) so my guy swings unarmed 1d8+6+1d4(magical damage) on 4 attacks, with a 3 pc flurry of blows each at 1d8+6+1d4. (Base only, I'm not counting any equipment buffs or anything in there).
Avg damage on my turns where everything hit was 81 with a Max potential of 136 non crit, just on pure die count.
Add in action surge uses, and the special monk strikes, crits, et al... it becomes insane. Add equipment/magic items, healing abilities, on top of that...
I've soloed enough situations that my character was retired forcibly by my GM to become part of his world background.
As a GM myself these days..It was pretty OP and broken. 2024 Monks will be all around more balanced and more useful. But Unarmed as a fighting style is rather bland for monks now as they currently get d8 at 5th.
