hello all i was wondering if there are any rules for creating spells that i can give my players to make their own spells. such as a point buy system or something to help balance the spells like having higher damage affect the rang/duration and so on.
There is no hard and fast rule, but the Dungeon Master's Guide dedicates a couple of paragraphs to the topic, at least for some important guidelines and some tips, on page 283 ("Creating a Spell").
