I like the change in 2024 rules that Tieflings/Aasimar can be small, it makes sense that some of the small races like Halflings and gnomes could have that heritage.
But lore wise I'm curious what other people are introducing this to their settings.
Has there always been small versions or is there been some change in the world and we are now seeing them?
Maybe they hid among Tiefling children, thinking about this as replaying Baldurs gate, would be a twist for Mol or one of the other tiefling children to be a adult Tiefling halfing and hiding amongst them.
I think the best approach is not to overthink it. If you're using an existing setting, the 24 changes aren't changes. They've always been like that, but it was unremarkable, because it's always been that way.
The odds of there being a change that would actually meaningfully affect the lore of your world if it had been that way is tiny, and your players won't notice anyway.
I hadnt even noticed that, so you have have a small human and not a small dwarf.
Lore wise, must admit im not too fussed but curious if it will be covered in a future book, for example there was the asmodeous ritual in the forgotten realms which is part of realms lore explaining why all Tieflings were his blood line for a while. So there could be some story/lore about the Halfling and Gnome gods being tricked.
Being small isn't as much of a drawback as it used to be. And some real humans are just that small, so why not have the option for players?
Since it no longer interacts with the heavy property, pretty much the only mechanical difference between small and medium creatures in combat is grapple and shove interactions and mounting rules. https://9apps.ooo/

Why not have that option for all races? (except for goliaths, of course)
I would use it to play more fantastical creatures. Maybe my small tiefling is a shoulder devil. Maybe my small aasimar was a dormant Christmas tree topper that has awakened. Maybe the small tiefling is more like an imp. Maybe the small aasimar is like the ghost of Christmas past, a supernatural child-like being.

It seems strange that humans and other species can be small, but dwarves can't.

It was an invasion by Miniature Giant Space Tieflings. Or, uh, maybe just Miniature Space Tieflings, I guess.
