Dungeon Master: Killing your charcters since 1974
Timeless, Boundless, Ruler of The Spire of Creation
I was playing alone, and this campaign is a doozy:
We followed the storyline well enough but the Undead started asking my main character (A Warlock noble) about smartphones randomly
Our party's Gambler Rogue froze to death at the Great Tundra, and was later brought back by our cleric
Upon getting caught sneaking through a thief hideout, my character tried to do Hellish Rebuke and ended up summoning a demon (We got away, but man was the party traumatized)
We gained a Master Sorcerer and he's already so done with our shit and probably wanted to ditch us at the first possible opportunity
The king tried to sexually harass Ash (Gambler Rogue), and Jax (Cleric) stepped in and smacked him
I tried to introduce a secondary prince character (who was supposed to be the last of our party to join) and he ended up shooting my main character (I fixed it, but that was shocking)
Two seconds into having our new Sorcerer Noble, he made a dick joke that nobody appreciated
We encountered our first monster and good ol' Zackery(Sorcerer Noble) accidentally shot poor Jax with his Flintlock Pistol
We are currently trudging through MORE SNOW trying to find an evil wizard that had killed Sonia (Main character) at the beginning.
Jax has also tried to romance Sonia in the cutest way possible (He gave her a medallion after bringing Ash back and saying, and I quote, "It's a medallion. It's so I can keep you with me, wherever I go.") and I want to make him and Sonia fall in love.
my players discovered a ton of lore about my homebrew world, got some cool magic item, talked to the titan of life and knowledge (who is a dragon and is dead), and almost went into a portal that leads into the realms that no one (except for the first wizard) has ever survived. has to be my most fun session i've ever had!
I ran a thanksgiving one shot (using their main characters) about monster versions of the thanksgiving food rising up to turn the tables on people. - Characters learned that bad things have happened to people who were summoned to the temple.
- Next day characters arrived to the temple island and met some NPCs on the way.
- When characters reached the temple 3 acolytes tried to use sleep spell on characters. At this point all characters understood that they were cheated to arrive to the temple.
- Characters rescued lot of prisoners from temple. There was combat encounters with acolytes and priests.
- Last encounter of the session was battle against minotaur and some priests.

One of the players befriended the sahuagin who they were fighting mid combat, on a ship that the sahuagin were attacking. Thats how the fighting stopped.

On the way they find a camp set up by some allies, and I mention a purple tent in the camp, and one of my players immediately went "oh no"... Because purple has been the telltale sign of the villain's Dragon, a manipulative noblewoman Warlock who created the problems in the first place.
My heart raced as one of my players went into the tent. I fully expected him to attack her... Except he didn't. He began a battle of wits with her, a mental chess-game that enthralled the entire table and was maybe one of the coolest moments of the adventure! And now the party and the Warlock is in a weird situation where neither trust each other, but they both kind of need to work together!

Quite unfortunate cause it was an encounter that was supposed to be HArd but still manageable, but some unforseen and random events (both from Us and the DM) just...screwed us over...
Long story short, we are playing in the Midgard setting.
We are a band of Mercenaries part of a Mercenary Guild.
We where made off; 1 Half Elf Storm Paladin ('using Long bow), Rogue Demolitionist Exalted kobold, Dwarf Beer Domain Cleric, Dwarf Paladin of Khor and myself Tiefling Dark Knight (Paladin/Hexblade)
We are playing in a High Fantasy, High Risk High rewards style( we roll 2D8, keep highest+10 for Abilities) and we're lvl 9 almost at lvl 10.
After some events in the city of Zobeck that rewarded us with over 80.000gp and we invested it in some things to grow the money, we had to leave the city because of some...Shenanigans (we almost burned half of the city through some accident,a nd some Civil War broke out in the Kobold Ghetto...)
So we trek out of the city to the North cause we have stuff to do up there anyways.
We reach a city, take some days to rest (we play with Get Unconcious=gain a level of exhaustion when healed) and while we're there i wanna retrofit an armor i got from a Vampire Goddesse Disicple a beautyfull +1 Breastplate that i wanna convert into a +1 Plate armor, the issue is that the Armor is decorated with things that makes it unmistakingly an Armor of the vampire Goddese followers, wich would be problematic...
The Dwarven Blacksmith i find tells me that he can do it, but not here, he needs to go back to his ancestral Home in the Mountains where's there's something called the "Everforge"
We have to mount an expidition for a week trek in the mountains, wich will cost me 5kgp(not a real issue since we're loaded), buit we can keep whatever we find there, and help him get the place back from whatever made this place Its Home...
I figure yeah some Gobs or Kobolds etc, no huge deal.
I talk about it to the others they accept and we're gone.
After a week worths of rough terrain and Blizzard, we loose sight of the Khors Platoon of soldiers that our Paladin requested, they have drifted away from us in the Storm and will be a day late...
We reach the place and are ambushed by Kobold snipers in Bunkers in the sides of the mountain plateau, with geysers (wich cooked alive 2 of our mounts, mounts dies too easely)
We kill them and take our stuff from the now dead Mounts, and push forward to find a place to rest.
We see the Dwarven fortress we're supposed to go to, and get in another ambush, (Dracotaurs, Swolbold-Hulk Hogan looking Kobolds and like 12 SNipers...)
2 of us (me included) gets unconcious and dragged inside by the Swolbolds and while the others retreats and devise a plan to help us, I regain conciousness and i am in front of what looks like the selfproclaimed "KIng of the mountain",...Kobolds...
I managed to bullshit my way long enough to gain time for the others to hekp us and for myself to finish a SR( we play fast SR 10mins), and when i get my Pactslots back i managed to Misty step out of the Swolbold grasp, summon my blade (they took all our gear off) and kill the lot and rejoin with the others.
Now we're in this Old Dwarven forteress and must find a way to deal with this, cause there is no way that they would leave us alone if we decide to retreat and where we are is a completly flat area with Geysers, so we would be like sitting ducks...
We make our way through the Forteress, killing Kobolds by the dozen and getting run down, we where slowly running out of ressources and the 2 dwarves where at 4 or 5 levels of exhaustion due to repeatedly getting KOed...
Our Kobold rogue goes on his own pursuing a fleeing Dracotaur by the doors at the end of the main corridor, leading to the Everforge...
We finally push backs the ambushes from behind we got (the place as more secret doors and corridors and holes that a freakin Swiss cheese) and when we're about to take a rest to heal our wounds, the Kobold Rogue comes back looking worried and tells us "They have a Flame Dragon with them..."(Cue Boromir in the Moria mines)
...****, is the only thing that crosses our minds, we are in a bad shape, but it would be impossible to leave now, specially when we risk having a Dragon just scorching our Butts when we are in the open outside, so we have to finish it here.
Luckily we have a Tiny Hut scroll so we took the gambit of having a long rest in one of the secret rooms.
Next morning, we are somewhat better the Cleric and Paladin are "ONLY" at 2 levels of exhaustion, we find our gear back and take all the preparations we can for whats to come...
I'll make it short, the Blacksmith finds an Anvilwrought Guardian that he activates and control remotely, the thing will face off the Dragon while we take care of the rest, then finish the Dragon, at least thats the plan.
We then go in and faces off 2 Dragonborn Edjets, 4 Kobolds snipers 1 Elemetal looking/Flame Priest and an Azer, there's somekind of ceremony going on, we realise that the Dragon wants to use the Azer and the eternal flame of the Everforge to pass from Young Flame Dragon to an Adult Flame Dragon...
We managed to get rid off the nuissances, but the Azer and the Dragon's Lair Actions make a Magma fountain appear that each turn gets bigger and bigger flooding the room(even if the rool is VERY large), with the prist casting Invisibility on th Dragon and we having to make like 2-3 saves each turns due to the Wall fo Fire each turns from the Dragon, the Dragon breath( the DM told us that he recharged the Dragon's breath nearly each turn) and to top it Off the Dragon had a rule that it ignore resistance to Fire with his attacks/abilities...
So has a Tiefling taking the full brunt of a Dragon's breath nearly each turn..., it is not pleasant...
And then Shit hitted the fan...
See our Kobold Rogue had the ability to cast Void magic, we used the Deep Magic supplement from Kobold Press (our Beer Priest could use Leylines magic and my Dark Knight Fiend/Apocalypse magic), but Void magic is dangerous, there is insanity rolls, mental health and random things that can happen depending on your corruption level to Void...
And since he was CONSTANTLY using this magic, even tho we asked him to us it sparsly, his corruption is high...
So when he dies after casting a Void Spell, the Dm asks him to roll a D100..., not a good sign...
The result he had was to invert the gravity of the whole run, so we all have to make saves as to not take fall damage when reaching the roof..., and we are now walking head down on the ceiling...Dragon included, but its manageable
Next turn, the DM still make him roll..., he Becomes a conduit to Monstrosities from the Farrealm...
ALL the corpses in the room Spawns Chtuhlu lookign things with tentacles etc...
So now we have THAT to face, with one man down...
To be short, the mix of all the AoE's and effects going on, the Dragon and Priest and the Chtulhu spawns, put us through the wringer...
Then our Paladin dawrf falls, we are still on the ceiling at this time, so we're like ok we can rach him and heal him...
Gravity inverts once the corps of our Rogue is completly melted by the magma, so we all fall down, Paladin takes dmg, 1failed Deathsave, in the Magma, 2nd failed Death save, and the dragon use his Wall of fire wich include the space he's in...
Paladin gone...
One of the Chtulhu thing thats left then cast Black Tentacles of Evard in the door way, while we try to make our way out (there's only like 10 ft of the room all around that is NOT covered in Magma) and something else cast a Smoke screen, so there is like 4, FOUR AoE covering the place wich we are...
My Dark Kngith then Misty step across the room, manage to save against the Tentacles effect and get to the paladin corpse, take it out the Magma and toss it through the doors so that we can at least try to rez him, and help the now Prone and Restrained Cleric to get the heck out of here(cause the Dragon make a small tremor that made the floor break and become difficult terrain), off course i get slowed by the Tentacles difficult terrain...
At this point the 3 survivors are in the doorway in the corridor...We then hear the dragon behind us taking a deep breath...
59 fire damage that ignore Resistances from the breath and we're all in..., i'm at 36 hp and the others are at like 10 and 20 hp, if i can save it, i can make it and drag the others out...
Fails the save...TPK..., RIP the Vagrant Rogues...
DM told me that it was a shame since the Dragon took enough damahe from the Anvilwrought and some of our attacks that he was NEARLY dead, like Next turn Dead.
And we could have done it, the kick in the Balls was the Void magic effects of our rogue that started to screw us over...
Now we 3 still had our Death Saves, and if anyone could roll a 20, he could try to heal the others (2 paladins and 1 Cleric so its feasable)
But the others all decided that it was ok to leave it be, evne tho i wanted to believe...
So they all started to make new characters, we are still doing it in the same campaign of Midgard, since the Dm has all the materials prepped.
But there is maybe some Hope for my character.
See one of my character's goals was to find a way to find his family from wich he was seperated (actual Time travel shenanigans) and he got his hands on one of his Father's work, the ritual to gant a Tiefling the power of Devil Trigger (yes, its from Devil May Cry games)
So my character had to find some objects and materials and even made a Deal with a Scribe Devil for information.
Said Scribe Devil was then following me under constant invisibility and i had acces to the "Library" an Automaton Librarian, a small construct creature that acts like a BoH but only for scrolls and books, so each day i could get some scrolls etc
Apparently the DM has something in mind with the Death of the Dragon and my character just been unconcious at the end( the Dwarf Smith PNJ, turned out to be alos a Warlock of the same Patron for wich the Scribe Devil worked, Totenvilius)
So they're gonna use the Dragon's heart in a ritual to get me up again and "Enhanced"
So the party are now making new characters, starting at lvl 12, myself icnluded, but it is a throw away character, until my Real character comes back.
One blasted bugbear. One frozen goblin. One goblin torn to bits by wolves One maced wolf. Treasure Goooooot. Short rest taken. More hitpoints please. :P Two blasted goblins, and one maced goblin. "I am a machine, built to make more machines, so that those machines would go and fight your wars for you against the ultimate evil. I was not made by some heavenly deity ruling on high, but by a man's hands, with man's tools, and a man's will.I know that man's name, and I know that man's fate. I do not worship him, for he sought no worship from his creation, only that I follow his will. And thus you and I fulfil our respective duties to those who made us." -Constructor Tertius (Warforged)
The ranger, palliden and wizard looking out the window of the inn too see a woman, being chased by a knight, being chaced by guards. The knight casts sleep on the guards causing them fall unconscious, and keeps up his chase.
All the wile the blood hunter wanted to sleep in.
They chase down the knight, whome is swating at the woman with a quarterstaff, whom has climed an apple tree, and is flinging apples at the man.
They kill the knight, whom was an underwlming boss fight. Help the lady down the tree. Wile a villager has ran up. She said he was her brother, and asked the party too help her get him to the family grave, saying the way was dangerous.
The wizard, reluctant to her request. The blood hunter(being a wolffolk) wanted to eat the knight, and horses some loot. The ranger was wary about taking any magic items the knight had. Finaly the paliden picked up the plot relivent dagger, and faild her wiz save, and thought "ooo cool dagger".
Two hour session that was almost entirely one combat.
Anyway, they got some magic items, a dagger that deals psychic damage, a sash that catches things you drop like its a third arm, a quarterstaff that deals d4 fire if you miss, and a necklace that has a chance to restore spell slots.
Now if only the items go to the right characters, and dont get sold befor they find out their useful.
Lastly the wizard got a spellbook that had a spell he didnt recognise, it's a homebrew one called "worm food" that makes the target roll their own hit die for damage it deals. Wich it never triggerd durng the fight(sigh).
In our last session, wich was also kinda the first of this new party.
our Group works for a Patron, the Queen of the Bazaar, in the City of Brass in Midgard.
So while the Boss attends a party with dancers etc and is about to make a deal with Mharoti officials (Dragon/Kobold Empire in Midgard), something happens, and nasties comes from a portal.
Some of them uses Songs and AoE's that result in the attendees to fall to madness and becomeing Berserk...
here's the Map by the way..., the characters wtih a Blue Halo are our characters, the One wiht the Golden Halo is the Boss Queen.
One of the nasties cast a Gravity reversal spell, some of the attendees and us then shoots up in the sky 100ft above..
By chance one of us is a Witch(Homebrew) and has a Flying Broom, she catches one of us who's confused and paralysed.
My Bounty Hunter (Battlemaster5/Scout7) character is also free falling.
I take out the grappling hook, and manage to catch the Flying broom, ending my fall, Dm says that since we played it as "Improvised ranged attack" i still have One attack if i wish.
i ask if i can use Steady Aim, since i did not move willingly, and i stopped my "movement" (fall) and thus i am immobile, he allows it, maybe there is a Rules lawyer case to be had here, but the DM ruled in favor of the rule of cool, and thats what matters.
So i put my heavy X bow away(hooray for slings)take out my Hand Xbow and use Steady Aim+Sharpshooter, with Sneak Attack i manage to get 46dmg, killing the target( he was allready some what wounded).
So my character, while free falling, grappled hooked onto a flying broom and with one hand took a steady aim to put One in between the eyes of his target, killing it.
The first part of the session consisted of me running from some Giant scorpions while someone distracted them. We then leveled up to level 3, that was fun. Afterwards we went on a quest to free our PR bear from the evil clutches of Jail. Walked through town, ( 3/4 of the party are wanted criminals, including me. ), fought some guards, cast Calm emotions. Convinced one to get us some gear in exchange for healing his buddies. One successful deception check later and we knock him out. Get sneak attacked by a 60yr old guard that our company rogue Over Killed. Freed our Bear. Dm told us that we saw an armory. Raided all the chain shirts as a quick money making scheme.

So the party are now making new characters, starting at lvl 12, myself icnluded, but it is a throw away character, until my Real character comes back.
its gonna be interesting...

And thus you and I fulfil our respective duties to those who made us."
-Constructor Tertius (Warforged)
They awaken to screeming in the streets.
Current game- Pelegos: Singularity
Game world- Thad'thra, homebrew
Role- DM
Players- Maro: Light Cleric, Rivqah: Feind Warlock, Kortek: Artillerist Artificer
Plot: Uncover a conspiracy and truth behind the Dragon, Blasphemy, and the light of the kingdom that was stollen. Drenching Baranara into shadow.

Nice story
The fire giants made a gundam wheeeeee
So...
