It has to save 3 times, which takes 3 turns, hence 3 rounds. Until it saves 3 times it will be poisoned. If it fails three times it still stops being poisoned but the effect becomes worse and lasts 7 days.

Ah, yes, I misread it. That's a good point.
yeah in the right fight its a very good tool to use...if you can confirm they are not immune to poison/poisoned.
Granted a lot of creatures are but if you know what you are fighting and have done the in character research to know its a viable strategy then it seems like a really good way to debuff a target for 3 rounds at least.
And *technically* the only spell I’d waste a Truestrike on, because it is hit-or-miss and a non-save-able multi round effect. If you had the round to spare.

This is one of the reasons why I really wish they hadn't replaced touch AC with DEX saves in 5e. Most spells you'd want to use True Strike for no longer use attack rolls.

Very true!
The way True Strike is written, it wouldn't work with any concentration spells anyway. As soon as you start casting your important spell, you break concentration on True Strike, meaning you don't get advantage on your attack.

That's true, and I also hate that aspect of True Strike and waive it in my own games, but Disintegrate would've worked as written and it's one of the spells that needed it the most since you get absolutely nothing on a "miss".

That’s why Contagion is almost the only one you’d use Truestrike on. Hit-or-fail, and no concentration.
The question then becomes whether or not you can afford to spend a round within 30 feet of the target so you can use True Strike.
Just walk up to it and attack it on your turn. And rely on whatever your tactic is at that point. But yeah if you don’t have something worked out and it’s not safe to get next to that big bad dragon, that is a factor. on the flipside, if the attack hits, its opportunity attack will be with disadvantage.
InquisitiveCoder, you always make good points and I enjoy your insights.

Yeah, the writers were too worried about True Strike being too good and ended up nerfing it to pointlessness.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
