Ok, as the name suggests, I'm gonna show you what I think is the most damage in a single hit. I'll be a half orc Assasin 17 oath of vengeance 3.
Feats: poisoner, peicer
Base damage w/rapier: 6.33(peicer)+5(11.33)
Divine smite: +9 radiant(20.33)
Hunters mark:+3.5 (23.83)
Sneak attack: +31.5
Potent poison: +9
Critical hit thanks to assasinate: 99.83
Death strike and the opponent fails the save: 199.66
I'd like to know if you can get higher damage, and feel free to show it.

When you thought you knew about spellcasting - you played a warlock
Why are most bard colleges a pain to type? I mean bard college of valor, compare to champion or evoker. Same goes for sacred oaths: paladin oath of devotion. That's even worse.
I don't think WoCE were very creative with the rogue and ranger subclass titles. I mean ranger archeotype? Roguish archeotype? Bro! Fighters are better but still is somewhat unsatisfying compare to a monastatic tradition or sacred oath.
The post that ThelonelyMagi is referencing (original poster HeironymusZot, note math correction at #183) also contains this video that's probably worth looking into. I haven't looked into it myself, but the 388 build presented by HeironymusZot is apparently a toned down version of this build for a easier progression & less cheese.
If the base weapon is a hoard item (from Fizban's), if it reaches the Ascendant level then it also deals an additional 3d6 damage (damage type dependent upon what what kind of dragon's hoard was used), and it also deals 5 damage of that type to all creatures of your choice within the five feet of the attacked creature if the base attack roll is a natural 20. So in theory if there is many tiny creatures within an area, a maximum of 12 tiny creatures being within the original creature's area, you could deal an additional 78 damage with a single attack
(The tiny creatures would be arranged like so if you are wondering, it also assumes that the creatures are taking up a 2.5 by 2.5 foot square and are situated in the exact middle of said square, the circle is the originally attacked creature and the crosses are the surrounding creature:
Versatile Trickster At 13th level, you gain the ability to distract targets with your Mage Hand. As a bonus action on your turn, you can designate a creature within 5 feet of the spectral hand created by the spell. Doing so gives you advantage on attack rolls against that creature until the end of the turn.
Feats: Elven Accuracy, Savage Attacker, Mobile Spells: Green-Flame Blade or Shadow Blade Sneak att: 10d6 Weapon: rapier 1d8 + bonus + Dex
Each turn you can roll the die 3 times to hit an enemy, greatly increasing the chance of a critical and you are 99% sure that you will hit every turn.
not critic[(10d6+1d8+3d8) +5(dex)+3(weapon)+5(int)] You can reroll melee weapon attack damage once per turn.
critic [2x(10d6+1d8+3d8) +5(dex)+3(weapon)+5(int)] You can reroll melee weapon attack damage once per turn.
It isn't the single most powerful attack, but you do this every turn... as many times as you want, and thanks to the "Savage Attacker" feat you can reroll the damage of your single attack every turn by choosing the highest damage.

Post #182-183 has a build that does 388 average damage in one hit.

if I edit a message, most of the time it's because of grammar. The rest of the time I'll put "Edit:" at the bottom.

So yeah, feel free to check my math on that one)
