So...building off the Piercer Rerolls Optimization thread here, what is the best way to build a Hold the Line fighter that maximizes DPR and keeps people from passing?
First glance things that you want:
Hold the line:
Reach Weapon Sentinel Feat Polearm Master Feat Cavalier Subclass Lvl 18 (the only extra opportunity attack feature I see) Have a friend that can cast enlarge/reduce on you
DPR/DPT:
Great Weapon Fighting Style Savage Attacker Piercer Great Weapon Master (-5/+10) Have a friend that can cast haste on you (not the same friend as enlarge/reduce since both are concentration.).
Anything else I am missing?
This already needs 5 feats...so the deep dive into fighter is needed anyway. Any other helpful feats? If we are using a Pike then we don't get the BA attack from Polearm master anyway, is there anything we can invest 2 levels or a feat into to get a useful bonus action? Would it be better to just get the last 2 levels of fighter to get Extra Attack x 3?

Just note that reach doesn’t completely synergies with cavaliers since their level 3 power requires you to be within 5 feet. I mean it’s not terrible, but man was I disappointed when my glaive wielding fighter realized that.
True...But I suppose he can switch back and forth between a 5' range and 10' range fighting style depending on the situation. Unless he is in a corridor or something there really isn't a way to keep people from walking around him outside of his range anyway.

Rune Knight lets you Enlarge without the spell. With PAM, it’s potentially all you really need to keep enemies at bay.
Bugbear rune knight;
Glaive.
Polearm master
Great Weapon Master.
Sentinel.
Gift of the metallic dragon.
Potion of enlargement (combines with the rune knight enlarge ability, lasts 1 hour, no concentration).
*Cue Gandolf (or Queue it up either way)
"You shall not pass!"
Does that occupy 20 feet with a 15 foot reach on each side? That bugbear rune knight could hold the line by itself in the middle of a great hall!
Actually 20' reach on his turn (from long limbed) 15' reach on opponents turns.
Only downside is only 1 aoo per round, which is why inwas considering cavalier instead. Smaller size, but gets to attack on everyone's turn.

It is pretty awesome, but doesn't come online until level 18. Very few games go that far.
