There should be one. Charm Person is 1st level, there should definitely be a similar spell of less than 9th level that at the very least has a second save that if they fail they do not know they were charmed.
You attempt to charm a humanoid you can see within range. It must make a Wisdom saving throw, and does so with advantage if you or your companions are fighting it. If it fails the saving throw, it is charmed by you until the spell ends or until you or your companions do anything harmful to it. The charmed creature finds your conversation enchanting and will want to talk to you. Basically, you are the one person that actually wants to hear about their cat, their D&D character, all of their various ailments, etc. Anytime after 2 full minutes of talking with you, you may make any reasonable request. If the request is the kind of thing the target might do for a loved one (sibling, wife, parent, etc.) then they will agree. If not they will regretfully say no, but you may ask for something else (try for something easier). Once they agree to do something, you 'owe them one', and they won't agree to something else. They will spend the remaining duration of the spell attempting to complete the requested task.
When this spell is over, they will NOT realized they were charmed - and the spell leaves no trace. They will however remember you as a nice guy that owes them one. They invite you out for drinks and expect you to pay. You can not cast this spell on them again unless you first pay them back with a similar favor.
At Higher levels: When you cast this spell at 5th level it lasts an hour. When cast at 7th level it lasts 8 hours, when cast at 9th level it lasts a week.
Modify Memory works, but it doesn't make them obey.
See, "make them obey" wasn't part of your original question. Dominate Person doesn't automatically alert the person that they were charmed nor does it tell them who did it. If you Subtle cast it and take them over without speaking in their mind, you should be able to sit there and pretend you're not doing it and they won't know the wiser.

Suggestion doesn't inflict the charmed condition, but it does check to see if they are immune to charm and it does control the target. It also does not automatically tell them they were charmed nor does it tell them who did it, though it may be obvious since it does have components.
There isn't a general rule that charm spells alert the target, that's why each spell that does this has to say so specifically in the spell.

The only mechanical benefits of the charmed are that the creature can't attack you (moot if it wouldn't have attacked you anyway) and you have advantage on social interactions, so the easiest subtle option to get similar benefits is enhance ability.
If you want the victim to do things beyond the scope of normal charisma rolls, a suitably worded suggestion is probably best. Or you can just cast charm person and then use modify memory to make them forget they were charmed.

That's what happens when you recover from suggestion -- it seemed reasonable at the time, but on looking back why did you think that.
Swashbuckler panache charms a non hostile target, and they don't even know.
A 20 CHR Swashbuckler with Expertise in Persuasion and Reliable Talent will pretty much automatically charm everyone they meet, except those with equally high WIS and Expertise in Insight. And, as cgarciao points out, it is natural charm and so not perceived as a hostile act in the way that other efforts to charm are. It's not just a social feature, particularly since it applies to creatures - not just humanoids - so long as you have a language in common, .
18 or 20 CHR is not that hard to achieve if you take a Hexblade dip so as to make CHR your primary attack stat and use medium armor and shield to offset a lower DEX.
Heck, I say that it's easy to achieve a good persuasion with a straight swashbuckler. You only need CON and DEX as a rogue and dump the rest into CHA.
If you really wanted to optimize, choose a high half elf, pick up booming blade, start DEX at 17, CON & CHA at 16 and dump the rest, then at 4th lvl pick up moderately armored to bump DEX to 18 and use shields. At 8th increase DEX, and at 10th bump up CHA. Along the way, pick up expertise in persuasion.
Now you got a kick ass front liner with decent AC and powerful scaling attacks with +22 to any persuasion check. No hex dip required.

I don't have acquisitions incorporated, modify memory should work.
Modify Memory works, but it doesn't make them obey. It is the closest.
I think we need a charm spell like this:
