Try inscribing a symbol on a small slab, and get a [monster]homunculus[monster] to carry it around, and make the trigger getting close enough to the npcs you want to trap.

lash a lit torch to a cask that's half or more full of flour. find a way to smash it to bits (improvised catapult, giant-rat trap, or dropped stone?) and it might ignite a deflagration. the powder must be very finely sifted and dried to ensure reliable ignition. it won't burn like spilled oil but the localized thunderclap will surely throw some bodies prone. your DM might even decide a concussion and some broken ribs are worth a point of exhaustion. plus there's that satisfying "pop" in the distance that lets you know remotely that you did a good job.

What are some magical and non magical ways to set a trap that will explode or do most damage in an extended area?

Are there traps that can move?

Seems like most magical traps are not movable.
