My party tonight are heading into a dragon lair. Im looking for a puzzle room idea that involves geysers. I have the reward picked out, just need the actual puzzle.
The dragon intends to test the party before it fights them. Gain its attention if you will. Any ideas.
Maybe the geysers summon steam mephits who give them riddles or some other puzzle.
Maybe they get access to the shape water spell earlier on and have to bend the water in a certain way. Maybe they have to bend the water into a complicated form and so the whole party has to combine their efforts, making it a skill challenge.
Or the geysers are blocking the way and the characters have to use a skill challenge to get around the geysers as they are going off and stop them in order to get past the room.
Perception could be used to spot a geyser before it goes off.
Athletics could be used to jump across a big whole or another obstacle, or to pick up a rock and plug a geyser
Nature could be used to figure out when the geysers will blow and where they will be
Acrobatics could be used to dodge the blasts
If they get an accumulative of three fails they fail and are wounded badly and get stuck or they cannot cross. If they get enough successes, maybe five or six, depending on the party number, they get all the way across successfully. For each failed roll they could take fire damage from the boiling water. I hope that made sense.
