I'm thinking of what race I should do for a Circle of Spores druid. And no, I'm not looking for the classic druid elf/half-elf/human. And I want to be a unique race, rather than than the basic humans, dwarves, gnomes, etc. Any ideas?
Note: It is a key part of his personality that he is not the nature nerd, but rather one who believes in the balance of life and death (why I chose the circle of spores).

Earth Genasi could be flavourful and thematic. From the ground everything grows and to the ground everything returns.
Plasmoid may be thematically fitting as if you are living fungal moss-sludge.
Probably best two in my opinion.

I'm sorry, but with Homebrew having a whole set up here, how does having a myconid or a vegepygmy character not being official have an impact on a game played sing this system? Just homebrew them.
nope, never mind, I'm sorry, I am a bit cranky tonight. Sorry.

Generally when people ask for race/class ideas they're thinking of official things.
If you have homebrew as a DM-approved option, then there's no point making a post asking which race to use - you'd just make what you want. A lot of times, though, when people ask on here, homebrew isn't an already approved option. A lot of DMs disallow homebrew races, and most newer DMs stick to "official stuff only" (and even ban a lot of that). When making general idea or "possible" characters, it is better to stick with official stuff and only homebrew when DM have given permission. These days they are more likely to say "use custom lineage" than allow any homebrew races. In my experience at least.

I'd probably go with Lizardfolk as by lore they tend to have their homes in marshes and swamps (which are often rife with fungi). They like to 'recycle' dead into something useful, like making weapons out of bones.

I had a circle of spores Tortle I played and loved every second cause he just had a fungal patch on his shell also used it as for various effects with spell list

Now that sounds like a good idea. I want to plant fungi on his shell.
Now I'm not sure between lizardfolk and tortle (I guess all the reptiles)
One of Spores' biggest benefits is its Symbiotic Entity feature, which adds necrotic damage to each of your melee weapon attacks, and gives you a boatload of temp HP per short rest. (Note that both unarmed strikes and natural weapons count as melee weapon attacks, despite neither being on the weapons table.) Combined, these make Spores Druid a solid frontliner/gish, on par with Moon Druid with the right build. My personal recommendation is to lean into that, and try to get as many attacks as possible, e.g. going for a Fighter, Ranger, Barbarian or Monk build.
EDIT: lol, forgot the race recommendation. What I'd go with here is probably something with a bonus action attack if your build doesn't already have one. Longtooth Shifter is a solid choice both mechanically and thematically, though you can also go with Lizardfolk or Dhampir, however those two get far fewer bites per day than Shifter does. If you really want to lean into the quasi-undead flavor of Spores, you can go with a Reborn, but you'll ideally want some other means of obtaining a bonus action attack like TWF or Polearm Master.
Um, yes, I'm already planning to have a Spores Druid. That is the whole point of this thread. I'm just wondering about the race I could use for it.
We're trying to understand your desired build / combat approach, because race is a component of that. For example, if you have no intention of being in melee, me recommending Longtooth Shifter or Lizardfolk for your race would be silly.

Now I know what myconids are. Although I can't seem to find it here, is it a race or a monster? Good idea though.

Just saw the post, looks like they aren't official.
So Earth Genasi does sound interesting, I'll think about it.

It's just not every game allows homebrew in it, and when they do it sometimes only allows specific things.

But still, that is a good fit, and I'd be happy to play it if homebrew was allowed.

I'm thinking about a more creepy race.
Something like maybe a Yuan-Ti, Goblin, or Lizardfolk. I'll have to look into those though and the features to see what I like the most.

Tortle AC is a draw in my opinion vs Lizardfolk.
Tortles do have a high AC...
