I'm working on making a couple of Mortal Kombat characters in 5e. I found a build for Sub Zero by Tulok the Barbarian on YouTube and it was fantastic. That inspired me to make some of my favorites other content creators haven't done like my current plan for the Outworld sorcerer Shang Tsung. I'm try to avoid homebrew if possible but if you guys have any links to fairly balanced homebrew content that could help I'd love to look into it. So fair I'm playing around with a Monk and Sorcerer multiclass. Monk, I went with Way of Long Death. It definitely has the feel of "your soul is mine!". As for the sorcerer subclass... I'm kinda stuck. None of them feel like they fit well. Any input would be helpful.
I'd swap Sorcerer for Warlock. Fiend Warlock fits the tone really well... there's a bit of redundancy, though, because the Fiend Warlock also has a feature where they gain temp HP after reducing an enemy to 0 HP, which the Long Death Monk can do as well... however, the Fiend Warlock has no range limit on their ability to absorb their enemy's life force, while Long Death only works on creatures in melee range. Fiend Warlock also gets access to lots of fire spells, and you can take the Mask of Many Faces invocation to get Disguise Self without expending spell slots.
Even if you don't go for Warlock, I think it's still worth taking the Eldritch Adept feat at some point to get access to Mask of Many Faces.
The sorcerer subclass that immediately jumps to my mind is Shadow Magic. Maybe 17 monk and 3 sorc? You'll focus on unarmed kombat, adding in firebolt, scorching ray, disguise and alter self...

Hey guys,
I'm working on making a couple of Mortal Kombat characters in 5e.
Goals of the build:
- Unarmed Kombat
- Soul Stealing
- Shapeshifting
- Fire Spells
